A tiny, unassuming, but welcoming restaurant with surprisingly affordable dishes considering it’s located in Georgetown. As a New Yorker, I’ve had trouble finding good south and East Asian food in DC, so I was very happy to have stumbled across this restaurant. I ordered the chicken makhani(butter chicken) and the saag gosht(lamb spinach), and was blown away by how good the food was — and how full I felt leaving! The meat was incredibly tender and flavourful, and the sauce packed a delicious spicy kick to it that had me wiping the dish clean with my garlic naan.

Curry & Pie represents the convergence of my two favorite things in life, and the execution is pretty close to perfect. I visited with a couple friends on a Saturday evening, and unfortunately, since there was a party upstairs that occupied the whole floor, we were seated in the downstairs section by the kitchen and register, where people were picking up their takeout orders. However, I forgot all about my less-than-ideal surroundings and the dumb party upstairs when the food came out and I disappeared into tandoori bliss. We tried the tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala curry pie, mango chicken pizza, and chicken tikka stuffed naan. The tandoori chicken was so so so well seasoned and delicious, though I wish I had asked them to make it extra spicy. The portion was really generous and I have plenty of leftovers that I’ll probably eat cold, with my hands, like a savage, at 3AM. My friends enjoyed their mango chicken pizza and tikka masala curry pie, and we all shared the chicken tikka stuffed naan. The naan was ok – not a whole lot of chicken inside it, so I’ll probably get the garlic naan next time I go. In summary: go there. Get your tandoori on. You will not regret it. Maybe do takeout if there’s a dumb party upstairs.

If you’re looking for good authentic Indian food with an American influence, Curry & Pie is the place to go! This diamond in the rough, has the potential for big things! The food was delightful and just the right serving size(we didn’t leave still feeling hungry or like our pants were going to burst at the seams)…my homeboy and I started off with the lettuce wrap, which was a bit too messy to eat by hand, but quite easy/tasty to eat with a fork and knife(ps, the green sauce was everything)! Unfortunately, they were out of the traditional samosas and the sweet potato samosas(which I didn’t mind as much, since I despise sweet potatoes)! For my entrée I went with the chicken makhni and my homeboy decided on the lamb vindaloo, which we were both very satisfied with! A set of our neighbors got the pizza; one of them had the chicken tikka and the other, the curry pie, which they described it as, «good/Indian food on pizza!» One thing to keep in mind if you plan to visit Curry & Pie soon is that this cozy restaurant is still in the process of getting its liquor license, so no need for a DD; it’ll either be water, soda or an Indian inspired drink! The ambiance also added to the overall experience… with traditional Indian music playing overhead, art depicting the Indian culture, and modern furniture. As for the service, it could definitely use some work! When we first arrived, the host seemed a bit disoriented/confused on how to assist us. Then, our server, another gentleman, was not able to provide much of a recommendation/unable to articulate the options on the menu when asked. Also, it was pretty busy with not much seating… there were 4 other parties besides the 2 of us — 2 other parties of 2, a party of 3 and a party of 4, and only 1 server(which made the wait a bit longer than preferred) to assist everyone; they could have truly benefited in having another server. Additionally, we were seated by the window; although, there were a couple other spots available. We took in a considerable draft sitting next to the window, so we asked to be moved to another table, which was done without hesitation and our server even helped me carry my purse and jacket to another table. My last observation was that around 9:25pm, we were approached by someone other than our server, and asked if we wanted to get anything else because the kitchen was closing; we found this a bit abrupt, given they didn’t close until 10pm. So… I suggest that you order everything you want 45 minutes before the restaurant closes; otherwise, you may find yourself SOL! Considering all of the above, I would still find myself coming back sometime in the future to give Curry & Pie a second shot! The food was good and pretty inexpensive for what we got: $ 35.20(before tip) for a shareable appetizer and 2 entrees. Until next time!

The chicken tikka masala is amazing and comes in a hearty portion! The sweet potato mimosas are also really yummy and different. Delivery and dine in are great experiences!

Intrigued by the Indian pizzas and creative menu, I thought I’d give this a try, but was sadly disappointed. I ordered delivery through Seamless/GrubHub… my food took over TWOHOURS to arrive — at least an hour past the estimated time. The driver apologized for the delay, and said I may want to reheat my food. The chicken tikka masala pizza, besides being cold, was bland and flavorless. The French fry chaat was soggy and no longer appetizing. The daal soup was bland and nothing to write about, but tasted better after reheating. Overall a bad experience. My advice: if want to eat here, dine in and have the food fresh. UPDATE: GrubHub addressed my concerns with the restaurant the following day. Increasing my rating from 1 star to 3, with a warning to not order delivery.

5 wows to the 5 courses we ordered and 5 stars to curry and pie. Hats off to them for the innovative and creative food they serve. We were a group of 4 and we ordered 5 courses from the menu. Drinks, small plate, curries, pizza and dessert. Drinks: we ordered 4 drinks. Mango lassi, nimbu pani, sweet lime and bhakti chai. All of them were amazingly good. A special mention for mango lassi. Small plate: we had sweet potato samosa, french fry chaat and chicken momos. All of them very good. A special mention for the FFC. Curry: lamb saag and chicken makni. Both of them were just wow. Both the curries were evenly spiced and the meat was well cooked. Pizza: curry pie pizza large with chick tikka masala and hot. Pure innovative genius. Great idea and an awesome pizza it was. And beware when you order hot, it really is hot. Dessert: mango cheesecake, gulab jamun. Mango cheesecake was so amazing that it brought back awesome memories of my first cheese cake experience. Gulab jamun was very good as well. The place was very neat and the server was very attentive and polite. Most of the food we ordered were his recommendation, so thumbs up to him. Keep up the good work curry & pie!!! I wish they were near my home

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat with my coworkers and I’m very glad we did. When we first arrived, the place was empty. So we wondered if we made the right choice in coming in. And since Only one of the four of us was familiar with Indian food, we decided to not to order anything too fancy. Food: Chicken Curry Pie pizza(mild) along with garlic naan. I highly recommend both! The pizza was cheesy and had a nice kick to it. Drinks: We ordered a Mango Lassi(favorite), Mango Ginger Fizz, Sweet Lime, and Nimbu Pani(lemon juice and ginger syrup; another favorite). Our server was very kind and attentive. The bill came out to be around $ 30(awesome!). The food was so rich in flavor, and very tasty that I will definitely be coming back.

I can only speak to the ‘curry’ part of curry & pie but the traditional Indian dishes and bhakti chai my friends and I ordered were all fantastic. It’s a small space but the atmosphere was relaxing — a nice change of pace compared to other establishments close by. Will definitely be returning, and I’m looking forward to sampling some of the fusion creations!

So I know there was at least 3 people working here and there was at most 3 customers in the restaurant at any given time while I was there. That being said, the service should’ve been quick but sadly that was not the case. It took quite some time just for the tea to come out and one side of the mug looked suspiciously dirty. On the other hand, the chicken tandoori was presented quite beautifully and was a very good sized portion. Tasted good as well. I tried the lamb vindaloo curry pizza which was tasty as well but not as exciting as I thought it might be. Overall, the food was average/good and the service was inefficient. With the amount of other places around, especially Indian/fusion, probably won’t be back.

Food was great! When they say spicy they really mean it. Delivery guy was awesome, even though I made some mistakes with the payment. I highly recommend the chicken dishes and the samosas. The naan is rather average and small relative to other places I’ve ordered from.

Hey look! An Indian and pizza place, two of my favorite things. What could go wrong? I would caveat this place by noting that it is on one of the main side streets leading to the Key Bridge, and honking from the nearby intersection is likely to be constant. Also, the interior space is a quaint old building, but very echo-y. I am sensitive to noise and eating here was an irksome auditory experience. That being said, they seem to do a lot of takeout business, which I would definitely recommend them for. The food options were pretty much what the name and concept suggest: an array of basic Indian dishes and some pizzas. A few vegan options are marked, but for some reason I ended up with a decidedly non-vegan spinach paneer pizza. This was not bad at all; the spinach was the right amount without being overwhelming. It was extremely filling and I could not finish it. For $ 8 in this neighborhood you’ll not likely find anything better. The more conventional paneer makhani that I shared was offered at a choice of spice levels, and I can say that the medium level was appreciably, if not uncomfortably spicy. The bean paste naan and mango fizz I tried were both decent to try, but not special. The french fry chaat was exactly as delicious as that sounds(or, if you aren’t familiar with Indian food, it is a fantastic blend of sweet and savory flavors). On the whole, I felt the food was probably a solid three stars. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t better than what I’ve had at the other twenty-five Indian restaurants inside the District that I’ve reviewed(that figure is not exaggerated); nor was their fairly basic pizza crust impressive relative to the thirty pizza places I’ve reviewed in DC. Price to portion ratio varied wildly with different dishes, but overall for Georgetown was not bad. However, I am persuaded to rate them at four stars because the fusion menu is nice and may allow you to convince losers who do not eat Indian food to come here for the pizza, and because they are a non-chain business in Georgetown. If I were(still) a student here, I would be taking serious notice of this place as food options are not great on or immediately near the campus.

After searching around the Georgetown area for good Indian food for a couple years, this place has been a great find. We ordered french fries chat(which was quirky and flavorful), garlic naan(freshly baked and perfectly seasoned), malai kofta(we asked for spicy and it was perfectly balanced) and even got a rasmalai for dessert(which was rich and yummy). Overall the food was great and the service was cheerful and I’m totally rooting for this footage to succeed. The only slight drawback was the wait time for the food, which was a little inexplicable because we were the only people(the other table had already been served when we came in). Overall we loved it :) Waiting to come back and try the Indian pizza!

Flavorful food with a few drawbacks: (1) Delivery took double the estimated time. It was supposed to take 45 min; it took an hour and a half instead. (2) Not very big portion sizes. I ordered, among other things, the Malai Kofta, which only came with three patties. Keep in mind: that’s entrée-sized. (3) I also found it to be generally expensive. Though that just may be the cost of living in a city. Other than that, all the food was very good. Perhaps I would dine-in the restaurant next time.

Amazing food. Lamb vindaloo curry pizza to die for. Mango lassi better than my dad’s. Really friendly service. Mango cheesecake slayed my soul(and my waistline). 10⁄10 will go back.

Amazing. Mouth watering lentils — a perfect balance of tastiness and creaminess and the lamb saag! So creamy such tender lamb & delicious spinach! Very friendly staff, very helpful. Met the Nepalese chef the chutney is well… I can’t explain how good it is!!! We tried the bean paste naan — very tender and delicious

Nice food with decent price. Tried Saag lamb with garlic naan, Momos, French Fries Chaat, Chicken tikka Pizza, Tandoor chicken wings and pot of chai(Tea). Best restaurant in the DC metro area. This restaurant has better taste for better price. Don’t forget to tip the serving guy, he needs to go down through the stairs and get the food from first floor :-)

Slightly hidden gem. We had the paneer pizza and the chicken tikka masala and both were excellent. If you’re looking for a casual spot with great Indian food(like we were), you absolutely must try this place.

Shout out to the awesome owner who ran three blocks in the right direction to help a friend reclaim her forgotten purse:) This place is a must-try. For anyone who is reading this Unilocal page deciding whether to go, just do it. Think a mix of european and south asian, with items like butter chicken masala pizza, french fry chaat, kidney bean paste stuffed pita/naan, and tandoor chicken wings. The owner, and several of the staff, are from Nepal — they clearly have a true passion for this restaurant, as we learned when the owner chatted with us for several minutes. Great guy and excellent staff. They even made me finally want to start a Unilocal account… so here goes my first post: Here is what my party of five tried: Drinks They all sounded amazing, the few we tried were fantastic(mango juice, with basil, and seltzer, lemon water with honey, etc.) Apps 1. French Fry Chaat: five stars on this alone! Fried chikpeas are an added touch :) 2. Nepalese momo’s: delicious, but haven’t had a bad momo to-date. 3. Samosas: These are less spicy than your standard indian samosas, but are delicious and very stuffed. 4. Tandoori-style chicken wings. Need i say more? These were on point. Entrees 1. Chicken tikka pizza: I still can’t get over how a large pizza was only 12 $. Eight slices for 12 $! Chicken tikka pizza was so amazingly tikka-y and cheesy. Next time, I think I would want to try the butter chicken masala pizza. 2. Lamb curry pizza: The highlight of the menu. Sauce is made up of the curry, with chunky pieces of tandoor cooked lamb. 3. Malai Kofta: ah, this hit the spot. One of the best malai kofta’s I’ve had since I moved to DC a few years ago. Comes with a delicious rice pilaf. 4. Chicken Karahi: My least favorite. But I don’t really like chicken karahi. So no opinion provided. 5. Aloo paratha: Advice to the chef, and all chefs of DC making this item, an aloo parantha tastes much better(and of course is more fattening) when it is cooked and pan fried with ghee. This one was a bit dry, albeit tasty. Comparable to other aloo parathas being served in the area. 6. Kidney bean stuffed naan: So delicious!!! Loved this:) Desert 1. Gulab jamun: Didn’t really try but my friends loved it. 2. Ras Malai: Excellent, tasted fresh, and had a nice pistachio accent to it. 3. Mango cheesecake: WOW. This tasted like mango kulfi, cheesecake, and flan all at once. At first I only wanted to try a bite. Then I pretty much ate half of the entire thing :). Made in house! Now the crazy part: this all only came to $ 97. That’s insane, considering this restaurant is housed in a cute row house in Georgetown, DC. Just go!
