Not sorry to see this store close. I used to work for this place. They were always on financial skids and had difficulty getting stock in because they owed so much money to so many vendors. The owners became increasingly bitter towards each other because of differing priorities. They weren’t exactly kind to their employees either. Politics and Prose was and is a much classier establishment that is run well. That’s why P&P is still around and Chapters folded.

Gone now. Space is empty. Sad to see another independent bookstore bite the dust.

Not many peeps even know this bookstore, one of the few independently owned downtown, is here. In fact, when this store celebrated its 20th year being open it was bittersweet. because the owners didn’t even know if they could continue keeping up with the overhead costs of paying rent, employees and for the inventory. Luckily, the owners thought fast and were approved to go it as a non profit. In doing so, they run the Wordfest International Poetry Festival every year. Other than the old and new literary fiction that you can find here, there are also tons of foreign literature as well as children’s books and cookbooks too. There’s also free author readings almost every month.
