This review is for their weekend night bar scene. I made a stop here for my birthday and also I stopped by this past month for a night out of bar hopping. My friends and I stopped by black whiskey to dance and grab a few drinks. It is pretty small in space and therefore, super cramped that is when it gets packed. It’s never packed with tons of people it just seems like a lot more people are partying because of the lack of space. The chandeliers are fun. They have red colored chandeliers that add a gothic and dark vibe when you look up to the ceiling. The bar area is bright and alluring. It definitely lures you into buying more and more drinks. Overall, I would stop by this bar for a drink or two while chatting over some very loud music. However, I wouldn’t plan to go here nor would I stay here the whole night. There are more popping and epic bars to go to in the area.

I just moved to the neighborhood and I have been looking for a low key place to grab a drink and black whiskey is just that. Kinda a dive bar with a pool table and a low key crowd. Bartender was straight to the point got us our drinks quickly and someone who worked there brought us over a table to put our drinks on(we chose to sit on a bench to avoid being under a speaker). All in all its a good place to grab a drink. Ill be back.

Pool table: one FREE nice 8′ pool table, with a bunch of young players that love the game. But they will remember«David from Dalla“s for a while. Friendly bartender guy, too.

Black Whiskey is easily my favorite bar in the 14th St. area. The staff is awesome, the music is rocking, and the drinks are damn good — not much more needs to be said. Black Whiskey is what it is and doesn’t try to be anything different — it’s either your kind of place or it’s not. 5 Stars in my book every day of the week, and twice on Sundays.

Randomly stumbled upon this bar with some friends and I’m almost 1000% positive that any place that gets the entire bar singing ‘Sweet Caroline’ by Neil Diamond is definitely a keeper.

Walk upstairs to a beautiful bar where you will be greeted by some enthusiastic and knowledgeable bartenders. They have many different types of whiskey, and the right person to help you find what you are looking for. The space is small, but it is well thought out… so you won’t feel cramped. If you are a fan of whiskey sours, definitely order one! They make the best one I have had in DC so far! They have a pool table and offer free play which is rare around here. Currently they are remodeling their kitchen so they can’t make any food. They have potato chips and goldfish crackers behind the bar… if you really need a quick snack. A bartender told me they hope to have the kitchen running by January, I will be back to try their food menu!

It’s hard to determine if it’s Black Whiskey(a bar?), boarded up plywood sheets and plastic over windows and doors, Italian Suits for men to purchase at half price or Juice that you’re to review here. I guess the owners are trying to find something/anything that will sell– seems desperate. I finally just had to see for myself what the heck is going on in this bizarre hole in the wall that I’m thinking may sell wigs in the back. Well, they don’t sell wigs– yet, but they do have… a bar with a angry, unhappy, rude bartender that for sure doesn’t like people and hates his job. He looks at you, that’s it. I asked for a Dickel and he said– we’re out. I glanced at the pool table and out the door. Five Stars for me not spending one dollar.

Black Whiskey is great place to grab a craft cocktail in an intimate setting. The bartenders were helpful and nice too. The pool table was active and people were enjoying getting to know each other while playing. It’s a lot of couples on dates so I wouldn’t go here if you just want to grab a drink and watch the game. We didn’t try any food but the menu looked tempting. The prices are pretty typical for 14th Street area. I definitely would not call it a dive bar but it does seem like a place that wants to be *like* a dive bar. Overall, I enjoyed myself and would go back again for a date.

A whiskey bar that showcases local art inside. A nice small space with exposed brick, I do happen to like the art here, and the booze offerings aren’t bad, but the food is terrible. Yes this is not a place where you go get food, but even their snacks were bad. The tacos, fries, sliders, everything was completely weak. I went with a group, and everyone thought the food was terrible, and most didn’t even bother to finish what they ordered despite being really hungry. Don’t offer food at all if it’s going to be terrible, especially on 14th street, is my advice, because people are just going to feel ripped off.

This is a good place to get a drink. A beer. A whiskey cocktail. I like wine too, but this is NOT the place to get that. Exposed brick, loud music, young(definitely waaay younger than me) hip crowd, free pool. Just good solid drinks. Knowledgable bartenders that aren’t too chatty. Go here with friends when you want to blow off some steam and relax. Great laid back vibe.

Male bartender was a dick to me for ordering water… Inappropriate. Otherwise the gin blossom drink was good. But will take my money elsewhere next time.

Originally being one of my favorite spots when they first opened, I started to see a slight decline after the bearded tattoo’d bartenders began to disappear. The place has a great vibe and had great bartenders that put time and effort into creating a delicious cocktail(made of whiskey). After moving further than a block away and not having been back in months I was sad to order a Manhattan that tasted like it’d be made at ‘Public’. With the motions gone through, no effort or care could be tasted. I then swore off my former favorite bar, set to never return. After a year or so since my last time at Black Whiskey, while out with friends, our set destination was a monumental fail. While in the Logan Circle area, I figured, what the hell, might as well give it another shot. I ordered a Manhattan from one of the female bartenders and it tasted like a cocktail made by the old Black Whiskey. I then ordered the same drink from the tall male bartender who I later realized made my ‘Public’ Manhattan way back when and once again an utter fail. I love the vibe and the whiskey choices at Black Whiskey, but unfortunately to receive a drink that tastes good, it’s dependent upon your bartender.

Interesting drinks but super crowded when I came around 1030! Bartenders are working hard to make drinks to keep up with the demand so that’s a good sign. The interior downstairs is like… half finished? I don’t know if that’s what they were going with but didn’t seem like anyone had a problem with it. Will come back on a less crowded night to check out the cocktails! (Knocking off some stars because they restroom was also a utility closet, it was super hot, bouncers were sorta… brash.)

I visited this place for a second time and I can defintely give 5 stars because the drinks are really good; I had a Kentucky Mule again and tried my partner’s whiskey, it was excellent as well. They have an extensive list of whiskeys and if you’re not a whiskey person, there’s a full bar and the bartender is happy to make anything you want. Love the interior as well: dark wood, pool table, it’s industrial and cool, yet there’s also just a slight dive bar feel, which I’m a huge fan of.

Black Whiskey is the 14th Street Mecca of Whiskey Hands down, this is my favorite bar in the city Black Whiskey has a carefully considered list of whiskeys, happy hour(4 – 7), great tunes, friendly bartenders and free pool. Oh & yes it’s true they have crunkcakes, i.e., cupcakes with alcohol( )! So, really, what’s there not to love? The exposed brick will knock you off your seat from the moment you walk into the bar. The atmosphere is quaint, dim and perfect for a conversation with friends. But don’t think this bar is only a place for pleasant conversation. Black Whiskey will surprise you because there is dancing, too! Black Whiskey reminds me of Knoxville, TN in particular it reminds me of Barley’s Taproom. If you’ve been to Barley’s or Knoxville and are jonesing for some southern style, make your way to Black Whiskey! As you can tell from the name, the choices in anything but whiskey are slim though there are options! Black Whiskey offers about five beers and rotates their taps. This is my go-to bar and I really enjoy a night out at Black Whiskey. If you are looking for that independent, go-out-and-have-fun, Brooklyn-hipster type place then this is a place you need to try.

Black Whiskey is unlike anything currently on the 14th Street Corridor — divvy, dirty yet somehow absolutely gorgeous. Stacked from head to toe in whiskey bottles, this is a whiskey drinkers dream. This is the perfect place to check out a few different whiskies before deciding to fork over the cash for a nice bottle. If your not into whiskey, they do have a couple special cocktails, a nice selection of beers on tap and Crumpcakes(aka alcoholic cupcakes). They also have free pool in the back making this a place I can get behind. Note: Happy Hour is from 4 – 7. Good time to go. The bartender working happy hour had a cold demeanor and barely said two words the entire time I was there, but I feel like that is part of the rustic charm. The place was pretty quiet during the week making it a great place to catch up with friends without feeling the need to scream across the bar. I’ve hear it gets wild on weekends but you’ll have to be the judge of that. The space is a little too small for me to be caught in a mosh pit type dance party. Overall, I’d go again. Good, nothing to rave home about.

Came here after ChurchKey was was thrilled with the change. It is light, bright, the service was fantastic(she actually seemed happy we walked in)! Whiskey is definitely King, so they have a Red(merlot) and a White(pinot grigio). Didn’t really see a menu so we asked and she gladly sent us down the road to B Too!

It has a wall of whiskey. Met here with my friends around 8pm as a starting locale and stayed for a couple hours because we enjoyed the drinks so much. Bartenders are friendly. It was my birthday and they have me a free Irish Car Bomb cupcake. They have one pool table that a single group monopolized the whole night. Around 10:30 the place became very loud and packed. If you like whiskey you’ll like this place, was good to go with friends.

Gorgeous bar, well curated whiskey list, great happy hour specials, free pool… yet when I stepped in one random Wednesday night it was completely crickets in here. I prompted my bartender about her suggestions but was met with little enthusiasm. I ended up ordering a Pamplemousse which I enjoyed but did not really feel like staying since the service seemed so aloof and the atmosphere dead. Also, no food menu(at least at happy hour). No Kushi moto food truck on site either. Apparently Friday and Saturdays have an active nightlife scene that includes an 80’s dance party. Overall, I’d give it a second chance and hopefully an encounter with the illusive whiskey god Jack.

I almost feel at home when I come to Black Whiskey. Its pretty much stepping into a bar in the Lower East Side or Brooklyn, but in DC. Epic mustache bartender, whiskey, and wood accents everywhere. Whats not to like? Drinks are quite good here. I’ve come a few times, first time for the Worn Magazine Issue 5 launch. They have a stage on the first floor for bands to play or a DJ, which both were around the first week. Happy hour is quite good here for Logan Circle as well. The old fashioned I had here was good as well. About $ 8 or $ 9 outside of happy hour with Bulliet IIRC. If I’m hanging out at Logan Circle than Black Whiskey is a solid bar.
