This is our second time giving this place a try. The food is just OK but the service and cleanliness of awful. This past time Pat was our server and greeted us with dirty dishes in her hand. Then it only went downhill from there. We came Beck a second time, willing to give it another chance but it’s confirmed, we won’t be back.

Went there for a family Christmas dinner. My youngest daughter(7) ordered a kid’s burger and fries. My other daughter(10) ordered the spaghetti dinner. The other adults ordered the Monterrey chicken. I ordered the 1⁄3 pound hamburger. The food comes. The spaghetti dinner was huge and full. Same thing for the Monterrey chicken that was a nice full serving. So much they all asked for boxes. That was excellent value for the money. Then we get to my allegedly 1/3lb burger. It was dwarfed by my daughter’s kids burger. Before the waitress even left the table I pointed out there was no way it was a 1⁄3 lb burger. It was dwarfed by the bun it was sitting on! So they brought me another. Told me the cook said it was a 1/3lb patty but he had forgotten to mash it down. I call BS. If it was ever 1⁄3 lb it was a pre-cooked value which is false advertising and just bad business. In this case, call it what it is… a slider… and serve it with 1 or two more burgers so that it is actual meal sized. . It just doesn’t feel good to see everyone with full plates and your burger is so small you are still hungry when you leave. To summarize, the service is decent. A lot of the dishes are good(all in our party who ordered the Monterrey Chicken were very happy). Just avoid their burger menu. They badly need to take their cook staff out and have them read a cookbook on how to make a burger because obviously they have no clue. Better yet, take them to the competition… ANY competition and have them order and eat what a REAL burger looks like. They can start with the McDonald’s nearby as that burger definitely trumps theirs. A real shame the way they ruined my experience.

Food and service are good. My wife and I come mainly when we need a breakfast food fix. They have a rewards card that offers a nice incentive to keep coming back for more.

Service was the best thing going here, but the food and cleanliness were seriously lacking. Neither of my kids would eat the potato pancakes, so I tasted them and found them way under cooked. And they had a very strange flavor. I ordered a salad, and the lettuce was definitely old. The chicken on top was also dry. We won’t be back.

I started out thinking…5 stars! But as I’ve ordered there 2 – 3 times a week for the last couple months, I’ve started to think… ehhh I’d rather drive to Royal Oak and get something better. I work in the area, and was so happy to find a decent place for lunch. I can’t believe how under served the Dequindre 12 mile area is when it comes to non-fast food, but its getting better. Now that I’ve been going here a few months, I’d say this. If you stick the American, or Greek fare, you’ll do Ok. Do NOT order the Mexican dishes… their made with the greek meat, gives an… interesting result. Their baked goods are very good. And the older lady who runs the place is very nice. Its no breakfest club(check THAT place out if your in the area… you’ll be blown away). The restaurant itself is very nice, clean, well kept. Its nicer then a coney, but similar type of food.

I’ve been coming to Friar’s for over 20 years and I usually come for the fish and chips on Friday’s. I’ve had a few meals over the years that were hit or miss, but still always went back because my family loves this place. That all changed last week. When we came in, we seated ourselves and the hostess brought us water and said shed get our waitress. She went to the bakery area and called in the back for her twice. I guess she was chatting with another waitress in the back and couldn’t be bothered. We ordered and waited and waited. Then I noticed an older couple next to us who came in after us got their food. The guy said«wow, we just got here» and called the waitress by her name. The waitress said«oh its OK, you’re a regular.» I shrugged it off, 8 minutes later our food came. I got a breakfast special. As I went to take my first bite, there was a long, black stringy hair in my eggs. And the bacon was almost raw. They offered to make a new one, but we already waited a half hour for pancakes and a breakfast special, so I said we just wanted to leave. The waitress took my plate and we waited about 5 more minutes for her to come back. She didn’t charge me for my meal, but did for my boyfriends. As I went to pay an older woman(who may have been the owner) apologized, but then proceeded to tell me that she didn’t understand how I could have hair in my food when both of the cooks are bald. I asked her if she was insinuating if it was my hair(which was pulled back and not black) and nowhere near the eggs until the plate was put in front of me. She just cocked her head and I told her she can’t blame customers for their mistakes and told her I’ll never be back. She didn’t seem to care. I’m so sad I have to stop going there because they’ve let it go really downhill with their customer service!

I love Friar’s. Such a great family diner. Our family has been coming here for years for good food and service. This past time we came for breakfast. The waitress was super nice, and made a point to make everyone feel welcomed. Everything came as ordered, hot, and delicious. They also have fabulous soups(in a bread bowl! Yum!) and breads/cakes to purchase and take home.

The quality of this food is about a 4… but the fact that they have so many different options at soup makes it a 5 star place. I haven’t been here in a while but they used to sell fresh pies(sugarless also) and those were great as well.

Always love dining here: morning, noon or night. Their soup selection is superb, as is everything on their menu. My server and bus boy tonight are Gloria and Zack. They are just as friendly and professional as any of the staff here. Come dine with them soon! –Angela B.

I was crazy about their diet desserts and diet cookies, namely the cookie delite. They taste amazing, the cookies are to die for and the diet ice cream is soft serve, and is as good as regular ice cream. Then I found out about the ingredients in the ice cream. The ice cream contains aspartame, which is linked to lots of health problems. Ok, I can deal with that. But the cookies, which are sooo good, contain margarine, and partially hydrogenated oil! They are loaded with trans fat, which are linked to all kinds of health problems. It looks like I will have to part ways with chocolate chip cookies and the diet vanilla ice cream, boo!

I always used to pass by this restaurant all the time and didn’t realize what a great place it would turn out to be. I love a few blocks away. So many people tell me what amazing food they have and awesome service. So today I decided to take my mother out for a late breakfast and wow was I happy. The food is amazing. Service is great. The atmosphere is good too. They have fresh pies and cookies and their soups are amazing. Perfect restaurant for me. Please try it you won’t regret it !

I’ve come to the Friars several times over the years. It’s best for those on a diet, looking to order off of a healthy menu, and those whom have had bariatric surgery. I must mention their sugar-free cherry pie is my favorite cherry pie in the world! And I’m not one to order sugar free stuff… a family member had me try a bite once and I’ve been ordering it since. I don’t really like a lot of their diet desserts, but again if you want diet dessert, that’s what you get I guess. I am a huge fan of ranch dressing, I dislike their peppercorn southern style tasting ranch personally, so I avoid ordering anything I would want Ranch with. The soup is usually pretty good, although the last time I was there, 7÷18÷14 I thought the chicken lemon rice had a funny sweet taste to it, that I am pretty sure wasn’t there before. Overall it’s decent and they try, again it’s the place to go if your on a diet, looking to order off of a healthy menu, or have had bariatric surgery.

This place is great. Been coming here for years. Breakfast and Lunch is the best time to go. The waitresses here are the best I’ve ever seen very professional and the manager is a great guy. They all have excellent customer service and the food is really good all around. The soups are great for the most part some inconsistencies in the soups but overall they’re really good. This is one of my favorite restaurants to go to for the value, food, and service.

Down home type of place — very friendly interior and staff. You can tell there are a lot of returning diners and it serves as a family meal type place. Had breakfast and it was cheap and very good. Will return. Baked goods looked promising.

Dill pickle soup and chicken pot pie soup… Is why I come here! I could literally lick my bowls and ask for seconds but I want to move on the the main dish. I normally order their specials that have the cabbage roll, stuffed pepper, potato pancake, and all the other yummy stuff they have on that plate I forget, it’s been a while! And they’re strawberry pecan chicken salad is so friggin amazing! I’m going to miss this place since I moved to NYC! Service is normally well but there is one waitress that isn’t too friendly when I do come there. But you forget about her anyways cause the food is just too good!

This is a great little restaurant that I’ve been going to lately for lunch. I’ve been here 3 times in the last 3 weeks and have been happy and full at the end every time. The soups here are above average and they typically have about 10 or 12 to choose from. The lunch options I’ve eaten have been prepared as requested each time, are plenty filling for lunch and tasted good. The prices are very reasonable.

Looking on Unilocal,Friar’s seemed like a great place to go for a few hungover and weary travelers. I can’t even believe how awesome it was! First of all, my soup sense went off when I saw their list of soups for the day. Soup sense, activated! I had too many choices, but ended up going with chicken lemon rice, which is my favorite soup of all time. I got the cup. There should have been a larger warning on the menu because I was presented with a BUCKET of delicious soup. Oh so tasty! I also got breakfast which was very tasty. The hash browns were fried to perfection! Out server was super lovely and the rest of the staff was awesome as well. The busboys were on top of cleaning the tables and it was truly a great experience.

I meet a group of my friends here once a month. I usually have breakfast. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend the omelets because they are alway dry and I just don’t like the way they are prepared. They offer a senior’s menu which is a great value and they give a senior’s discount if you order something that is not on the senior’s menu. I can recommend the chicken pot pie, broccholi quiche, and spinach quiche. They also have healthy choices for people who are watching the calories and carbs. The servers are great and the coffee cups stay filled. They have a huge selection of soups available and several different kinds of salads. They have fresh baked goods at the register which tempt you as you are leaving. I like the sugar-free blueberry pie. Yum! They have diet ice cream and desserts. Check with the server for specials.

Friar’s has been in this location for 47 years now. Everything on this visit was OK. I got Turkey Ruben, it was OK. My Wife got a Club Sandwich, it was OK. They have a ton of soups to pick from… I got French onion, bland broth with salad croutons & cold mozzarella cheese floating on top. The wife got cream of Broccoli… Ive tasted better baby food. My Grandma bought lunch so I didn’t complain. They have what looks like a whole bake shop full of cookies, cakes and pies for sale at the door if you like to take your dessert home I guess.
