It’s a hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurant. If you’re some uptight, condescending eater then you probably won’t like it very much. If you’re smart, you’ll know that places like these house the best food. The food quality is standard and there is absolutely no presentation, but it’s all delicious and they have frequent(and interesting) specials. I’ve been stopping here every now and again when I come home from classes and I haven’t been disappointed with anything that I’ve eaten. Their marinara is great and just about any sub you get from here will be good. If you’re looking for good hot eats for not a lot of money, check out Antonia’s.

Nothing better than a hot meatball sub on a cold rainy day. Part of the allure for me was that I was super hungry and this place always seems to be empty… So less wait time for to stuff my face! Very unassuming location; I’ve passed it many a time and have yet to try it until today. When you walk in and see Antonia in the kitchen you get the sense that you just borrowed someone’s Italian grandmother to fix your lunch for five minutes. Real home style Italian comfort food. They meatballs were no frills but solid and not dry and tasty. They really hit the spot. A large sub and a can of coke was $ 9.00… Not bad. I would like to go back and try some other foods!

For a while I thought this place was out of business since the hours are so strange. Luckily one day I noticed that they were indeed open, but it took me a little while longer to actually venture in and try the food. I have to say, I was pretty pleased with the pizza, much better than The Sub-Way. They do it «grandma pie» style, squared off but not thick like a Sicilian, and the crust seemed more cornmeal than flour-based. The meatball sub was fine, very no frills no toasted bun/melted cheese. For this side of the town it’s a solid option for an inexpensive hot meal.

A hidden gem… And unless you know about it, you’d drive past it every time. The best chicken cutlet and best meatball subs you have ever had. Made to order chicken cutlets. Made to order egg salad. Tomato sauce made in house… The best meatballs you have ever tasted — yes you heard me right. Yummy lasagna. And all run by Antonia herself. One of the hardest working italian women I have ever met. A must try.

Excellent chicken cutlet subs. Empenadas are great as well. Well worth the visit to this small establishment. The owner is a very nice and friendly lady.

Wow! This place is a treasure! Authentic Italian Home cooking with a Master Chef behind the counter. My tastebuds had a vacation! I love the pizza, the crust is OUT of THISWORLD, I can’t stop at one! The soups are made with great fresh ingredients and the subs are delicious!!!

Easy to overlook, Antonia’s is a small place located not far from the Moody Street shopping district featuring subs and homemade Italian-flavored dishes. Subs are better than average and feature very fresh ingredients and better than average breads. Where the place shines, though, is in its selection of other Italian specialties. Pasta, ravioli, etc.,…it’s all there. And the soup will make you feel like you’ve traveled to the North End… without fighting for parking. Place has a few tables and a homey feel and prices are more reasonable than what one would find at a downtown place. Antonia’s is also open mornings and features muffins and coffee. I make sure to grab a blueberry muffin when I’m coming by. Better than the supermarket variety and less expensive too. Altogether, not bad.

It just okay. Not a-okay, but not deserving of a two-star zinger. I’ll preface my review by saying that I’ve only been here once – and I’ve hardly finished chewing. .. and I’ll add in the fact that I only ordered a Greek salad. It was decidedly meh and surprisingly small for a dish that’s primarily composed of iceberg lettuce. I suspect where this place shines, however, is in their Italian specialty dishes. Things like ravioli, gnocci, and meatballs are all on the menu. And based on the sign, this is an Italian-influenced sub shop.(So, I suppose I should have known better than to order a Greek salad.) This place is a little off the beaten path, on the Newton-Waltham line, not too far from the high end of Moody Street. If you’re a meatball connoisseur, you might want to give this place a whirl, but if you’re looking for your ordinary sub or salad lunch fare, you’re best to just move on. There are a few places to sit in here, but the ambiance is decidedly lacking. Just a funeral home calendar and the old-fashioned menu board with the push-in letters and numbers. N.B. My salad came with a piece of scali bread that was quite tasty and fresh – albeit full of empty carbs.
