I could have prepared food of a similar caliber and I consider my cooking to be terrible. There are better choices in the area for mediterranean.

Great dining experience especially in the spring and summer outdoors. Persian owned with a Mediterranean inspired menu. Pomegranate chicken is fantastic and sides are solid. Tasty appetizers and excellent fresh baked bread. Great place to hang enjoy the company surrounding and weather. Food is just ok

Used to eat here a lot when it was new, the owner was there everyday, food was always fresh like home! Like most establishments as time pass they dip a little in overall performance, this one’s no exception unfortunately. But there are yet worst places to eat in downtown, this is certainly no anywhere in the top 10, but a close distance from the bottom 50. If you do go, be sure NOT to order the Gyros, these guys don’t have a clue what Gyros is, or they know but don’t care to make it right. I got it and it was as tender and juicy as shavings from cow hide! God awful dry and when I expressed my concern to the waiter he looked at me with the deer in the headlight look, as if there’s nothing wrong with it. Two safe bets are: 1. The koobideh Kabob with Nun, 2. The pomegranate chicken.

Came in from out of town and had some time to kill. Stopped in for lunch and was amazed. The flavors were so delicious. This is the best lunch I have ever had. Bonus is it was under $ 10. Why can’t they have a great place like this in Fresno? I had the #9.

Why 5 stars: Persian food that isn’t over salted, over seasoned, or overcooked. Koobedeh was fabulous, chicken too. Whole baked trout — not only tasted amazing, but where else can you get that? I ate every speck of skin & meat– it was so good. The lavash– oh my. The Greek salad, basmati rice, both great. Falafel was good. My friend loved her Gyros salad. I tasted it but it’s not my thing. Homemade lemonade was very refreshing. We ate outside both times in very pleasant weather. I think the prices were normal compared to other Persian meals. I don’t prepare them so I gladly pay for someone else to. Other than this, I think the owner should splurge on a cleaning crew for a deep, floor to ceiling cleaning.

This is my favorite restaurant in the bay area! I always get the same thing… Pork Tenderloins in Pomogranate Sauce!!! It comes with pork, vegetables and mash potatoes, and the sauce is amazing(I always ask for extra). They also have a chicken version of this dish. I think they cost about $ 18 each, but I could be a little off on that. They also have a lot of other things you can order(including cheaper options), but I would never dare pass on a chance to get the pork tenderloin dish… it is that good lol! The restaurant itself is fairly small, although they do have a small but nice area for outside dining as well. The customer service here is polite, but by no means 5 star. Last time I went they had typos on their menu, and the serves don’t always do things in the most organized manner, but the food makes up for it!

The food is delicious, the staff were extremely nice, the price was right, and the location is ideal. I would recommend this to anyone who likes Mediterranean food and I plan on coming back soon.

Disappointing. Gyros salad was warm gyros stirfried with tomato paste plopped on a couple tablespoons of lettuce. The tzatziki is like mayonnaise with dill. The gyros platter was a pile of gyros with a bath of mayo-like tzatziki and a couple spoons of chopped onions and tomatoes. Plus ridiculous prices for this basic slop. Never going back.

My family and I wanted to try a new place to eat in Walnut creek. My daughter picked this spot. We waited about ten minutes to be seated, not bad at all. The issues we had were that we asked several times if they can light the out door heaters because we were frozen from sitting outside. Each time we were blown off. Finally we were told they were all out of gas. Yes all 4 outside heaters were out of gas… So we sat freezing for the remainder. We ordered our food. My daughter, wife and I had the kabob. We were told it only comes with one stick. Ummmm one stick for $ 21 dollars each? And my son had a kids plate. I had one soda and the girls had tea. My son had chocolate milk. No alcohol was ordered. The food was ok really no complaints. But when we got the bill for $ 131 plus tip for two adults and two kids was insane. To sit outside in the freezing cold for a very small amount of meat and rice was not worth it. Make sure you fill up on the rice so you feel full!

Lunch special was a disappointment. Described as a half portion, the chicken kabob was three small cubes of overcooked meat from what appeared to be last night’s unserved dinner. It was insultingly small, especially considering the high price, leaving my lunch guest disappointed. My gyro, however was delicious, but I felt guilty because the rest of my party had such lackluster food. On principle, I couldn’t enjoy my meal. I had been here over a year ago and boasted to my party how great it was. My reputation is now slightly tarnished and any future suggestions I make for dining options will most assuredly be subject to scrutiny.

So i came to Pomegranate looking for that garlicy– hardy flavor of greek food. And what i got was an italian twist on what was supposed to be Greek food. It had more of a Mediteranian flavor then anything. I ordered the gyro with extra tzithi sauce. The sauce was more like sour cream and wasnt very flavorful. And the meat that was supposed to be spicy was tossed in some sort of tomatoe sauce. like pizza sauce. Dont get me wrong, the food was delicious but just not what i had expected in a gyro. The waitress brought a tapenade to the table with pita that had that good salty brine of the olives. We ordered a side of hummus that was delicious. Will be going back, but not for a gyro, when im in the mood for italian.

I could not breathe after eating their hummus and spicy gyros sandwich. The gyro was tasty and the caramelized onions only brought all the flavors together. The staff were all so friendly! Atmosphere was welcoming with a huge mural of Greece and the great pyramids. Loved every bit of this place. Try it out :)

I had lived here for years and never been to Pomegranate. Back then I didn’t eat Mediterranean food. And I didn’t tend to eat downtown. Thus the happenstance of me never having had a single bite of the delicious food at Pomegranate. We sat down to an empty house since I was starving and this had been the closest restaurant to us. Our order was taken by the friendly waitress, we were served fresh from the fire rosemary toasted flatbread and I was set to enjoy my meal. And enjoy my meal I did. My Kobedeh was fantastic, though a little more lemon juice was used than I’d prefer and my garlic mashed potatoes and steamed veggies were wonderful! We’d been a bit worried as the menus looked a bit worse for wear, but needn’t have worried, our food was delicious! I’d return any time, though I don’t live in the area any more.

I used to go to Pomegranate restaurant in Berkeley years ago. It’s where I discovered pomegranate sorbet and squares of baklava the size of your head(okay, the size of your hand, but it was huge). The food was a mix of Mediterranean with a decidedly Persian cast, it was always a favorite. But alas, they closed some years ago, replaced, I believe, by a Himalayan place that is probably quite good. I found myself in Walnut Creek a few days ago, in search of lunch, and stumbled upon what turned out to be one of the better culinary experiences of recent time. After entering and being brought a menu, I saw that this place was indeed the long lost Pomegranate — same logo, basically same food.(Tears of unmitigated joy — Pomegranate lives!) Lunch began with a plate of freshly made, homemade lavash and a small dish of very good torshi, a condiment of chopped veggies, spices, olive oil and vinegar.. For the uninitiated, torshi is generally pickled vegetables(chopped fine). It’s great for dipping bread in, much like the za’atar that comes with bread in Middle Eastern restaurants. Bottom line, it’s good. I ordered the koubideh, a skewer of seasoned ground beef, served with a large mound of Greek salad, complete with Kalamata olives, onions, lettuce and a tasty vinaigrette, and a serving of basmati rice. Ground meat is too often a hit or miss proposition on the grill — it is so easy to overcook or undercook, and the result can be a dry, tasteless mess(I’m okay with rare). But not this one! I honestly cannot recall a more perfectly prepared kabob! It was perfectly cooked, moist, tender, and perfectly seasoned. Beautiful to look at and even better to eat! This amazing mini-feast was a very affordable $ 9.95. This restaurant is a definite winner and I highly recommend it. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but inside is where the culinary magic happens. My only regret is that there weren’t two skewers of meat!

So glad we finally stopped in here for dinner. I’ve always been curious but this little restaurant but was concerned about the mixed reviews. We had a birthday to celebrate and the special birthday gal is a vegetarian. Pomegranate provided plenty of vegetarian selections to choose from, starting with wonderful hummus and that tasty bread. We could have made a meal out of that alone. Everything we had was cooked to perfection. The Warm Chicken Salad was very satisfying, the Pomegranate Chicken was total comfort food and the roasted veggies were divine. Even the carrots on the side of the chicken were fought over. Service was warm as well as the ambiance. We dined early and experienced no wait, but would advise to make reservations during prime dining times. Would love to eat in their outside area when the weather permits. Of course we ate far too much of the tasty hummus and pita bread to fully enjoy our meal. Took home at least half of our meals, but the leftovers the next day were quite yummy!

I’ve had better Greek/Mediterranean food in the east bay and even in Walnut Creek than Pomegranate but if you’re looking for a quick bite/easy meal, and am feeling for some Greek/Mediterranean food, then this is the place to be. My favorites: greek salad and the grilled garden assorted vegetables(healthy and delicious). The hummus — pretty good The naan — pretty fresh The gyros — kind of dry/overcooked The chicken — dry dry dry

**3.5 stars** I’ve been coming here for years. But I haven’t had a meal here since last year. After watching a Gordon Ramsey show, I was craving hummus & pita bread. We usually come during the day and sit outside so my daughter can see the passing cars & people watch. On Saturday night, it was a little chilly so we sat inside. I agree with other reviewers, the inside of the restaurant, from the floors(greasy) to tables to restrooms feels icky. The tables are a little small, not much room to relax, put your purse down. If you order multiple apps, drinks, & entrée, there’s not much wiggle room. So, if you have an antsy kid, come during the day and sit outside(distraction). The service was great! We made a reso, just in case for 7 p.m. and had our pick of tables. We knew exactly what we wanted. The food came fairly quick, HOT. Here’s what we ordered: Hummus(me) & Babaganoosh(Hubs) — We ordered both since Hubs doesn’t like hummus, and I do. Theirs is more creamier, not as grainy, not too sour too, which I like. The pita bread was HOT& fresh, just flaky enough where it doesn’t crumble on you after putting on the spread. Pomegranate chicken– This has got to be my favorite, ESPECIALLY the sauce, with just the right amount of sweetness and tart. Mmmmm… I started ordering this dish years ago when I’d only eat white meat. I have since moved onto the dark side ;), mmmm… even better. Yeah, the breast was a little on the drier side, but nothing that some sauce couldn’t make up for. To boot, the vegetable sides— freshly cut carrots, zucchinis, cooked perfectly with a nice snap with every bite(not too raw but not overly cooked soggy). The mash potatoes has fresh whole garlic cloves. Yum!(If you like garlic) Salmon– For some reason, Hubs wanted SALMON(over kabobs?). Really? But surprisingly, he said it was grilled perfectly — not well but not rare, still moist inside. It was served over saffron rice, which was quite delish. My 4 yr old, well, she eats everything, even the babaganoosh(minced eggplant). But it was just fun to say. Of course, she loved the chicken. She is her mother’s daughter. The food is still good. Servers were attentive. Yeah, the restaurant could be a little cleaner. But, we’ll be back, especially with summer nearing.
