Distinctive Cabinetry

In August of this year, I was preparing for a move and looking to remodel the kitchen in the new home. I did a lot of research on good cabinets, went to many Bay Area cabinet companies and distributors, and concluded I wanted to pursue Starmark Cabinets.
On August 12, 2015, I went to Distinctive Cabinetry, because they were a distributor of Starmark Cabinets. I initially met w/​Shirley, then Sherry for an initial assessment. When Shirley returned from vacation, I explained what my wife wanted: a French or French Country design, w/​out the yellow colored appearance. Shirley was all over it and made a fantastic recommendation on a new color called Villa Marshmallow. We complimented these main cabinets w/​a pantry section in Slate w/​chocolate glaze & old world distressing. And fortunately for me, Shirley informed us that Starmark was advertising a sale for the next month.
Her design sense of what we wanted was right on. And she was quick with suggestions and guiding me through the steps of maximizing my space and utilizing every interior part of the cabinets. She also made a couple of great recommendations for glass (Valley Glass) and door handles (Belmont Hardware). Some other recommendations on their list (i.e., appliances, etc) were not what I would call the best and recommend you do your homework.
The delivery of the cabinets came in on schedule. There were a few doors where the color was noticeably off and a few damaged shelves. Shirley was very receptive and Starmark was quick on the replacements.
After much of the install, we noticed the microwave hung lower than it should. This resulted in the exhaust fan kicking on much sooner and staying on much longer than it should have. It was because the overall height of the cabinet above the microwave did not take into consideration the distance between the stove top and bottom of the microwave. This was an error on Distinctive Cabinetry’s part, because the measurement of all the appliances and height of cabinets were established before ordering. The error was corrected, but I had to pay for the replacement cabinet at company cost.
In the end, the kitchen turned out amazing! The kitchen exudes quality, sophistication, and elegance, w/​a layout that turned out great!
Shirley was great to work with and I would definitely recommend her and Starmark Cabinets to anyone looking to design a new kitchen.

We have worked with Distinctive Cabinetry on two separate occasions. The first time was for kitchen and bath cabinetry for our vacation home in the Sierras (new construction) and the second was for a master bath remodel for our home in Walnut Creek. Our experience with this company both times was great. The owner, Steve Ross, and Shirley M have been a pleasure to work with. Shirley was delightful to work with planning a design for our vanity cabinet. When we hit a bump in the road, the matter was dealt with quickly and with professionalism. These folks want to make their customers happy. We recommend Distinctive Cabinetry highly and will not hesitate to use them again.

Good service
We went with distinctive cabinetry based on our contractor’s recommendation. Overall very happy. Our kitchen looks great. A complex order like ours is bound to have some hiccups along the way but they handled it expeditiously.

Customer service was very poor. Walked into showroom and nobody bothered to ask if assistance was needed. Eventually I found somebody to help. I was told they were going to give me a quote by Friday, then the whole weekend went by and no quote. Sales rep was out on Monday so no quote till who knows when. We the showroom was called and told «hey where’s my quote» they angrily snapped back and said «somebody will get back to you».
Looks like another local business who has enough money and doesn’t need mine. BTW, getting ready to do whole kitchen remodel next year, looks like they won’t be needing all that $$$ as well.

This 5 star review is just for staying open. My wife and I learned that Distinctive Cabinets has the quartz counter we are interested in on display. Traffic was so bad getting there from San Mateo that we didn’t make it before 5. We called on the way and Steve agreed to stay open a little longer for us. We really appreciate the extra effort, AND we really liked the counter top!
