Came here on a recommendation by fellow Unilocalers and I’m glad I made the slight detour while working :) I got the Chefski sampler, potato pancakes and the red borscht. first, didn’t realize the red borscht was clear-it was kinda funny, like I felt there was something missing from my soup so I actually googled borscht and apparently there are different variations on the soup(the Polish kind being clear and served with a croquette on the side-that sounds really good actually, maybe next time I’ll have it with a croquette, LOL). It was sour, tangy and strangely addicting and for $ 3.50, you get this giant styrofoam container. YUM. I think this would probably taste really good cold too, in the summertime maybe. Then the potato pancakes-these were really big and hearty. The only ones I’ve had were from Royal Warsaw(and those were really good, too BTW) and they were served with sour cream and applesauce. The ones from Chefski’s didn’t have the applesauce or the sour cream which was a bummer(but really, are you supposed to eat potato pancakes with applesauce and sour cream? I’m not really sure, can anyone Polish please enlighten me??) but they were nice and crisp with a bite to them :) The sampler was where I was really impressed. Wow. Giant portions, the saurkraut was amazing, the kielbasa was wonderfully crunchy with a nice snap to the shell, the golabki(spelling??) was nice and tender. They also serve it with mashed potatoes, which helps to balance out all the strong flavors. AND the pierogies! OMG must have them! They’re soft and chewy and stuffed with these wonderful fillings(i got potato and cheese, then one that had broccoli in it and one with meat-sorry, don’t know exactly what they were!) and I was left salivating for more after I killed off the three that comes with the sampler. Definitely coming back, probably will order a separate order of the pierogies next time LOL in addition to everything else. :)

The Polish food here is superb… about the best I’ve had in New Jersey, outside of that served at someone’s Polish home. I’ve thus far had the pierogies, the potato latkes, the Polish Kishki(blood sausage), and the tripe soup. But here’s the rub: Although there are tables, which would imply restaurant to me, the bathroom is off limits to customers. This therefore requires some pre-planning on the part of the patron, especially if she or he has traveled some distance. Furthermore, despite the excellent quality of the food, it is served in styrofoam containers and the customer is given plastic utensils. This just won’t do. While the photos show the food presented on nice, real plates… it just isn’t the case. Methinks the establishment isn’t that concerned with sit-down customers as, during any given time I’ve had the pleasure of imbibing Chefski’s Polish cuisine, numerous take-out patrons arrived to pick up their orders for enjoyment at home. All that noted, my suggestion is come prepared: i.e. — use a bathroom at the nearby fast food joint just before arriving. And, if you like your food on porcelain and eaten with silverware, bring your own. Bottom line, these preparations are well worth the trouble. Enjoy The Bear

Found this place by accident. I don’t know of many places that serve real traditional Polish food. I had a kielbasa sandwich. My sister some kind of combo plate. Everything seemed authentic, and tasted great. I feel like something is calling me back there. I guess I just like Polish food. Definitely check it out if you’re in the area. It’s a great option for take out or counter dine in counter service.

I wish they were open later then 8pm(I’m a night owl) but they have extremely delicious polish food. Its always ready fast when I order it and tasted so great. I love their Chefski Sampler. With it you get so much for a low price, I definitely recommend trying it! I’m always happy with the service and the food. Very nice little eatery.

The food was mediocre. I ordered the chicken cutlet and the roast beef with gravy. The roast beef was overpriced for the portion size they gave — one small slice. The mashed potatoes were tasted like it was just boiled potatoes that was mashed with no other seasoning added to it. I was fairly disappointed after reading so many good reviews about this place.

I was passing this place on my way home, decided to try a new place to get food. I was really in the mood for some perogies so i stopped in and ordered some potato and cheese and got them to go. They were awesome. Nice and soft and the the taste was good. If i was passing by or lived a bit closer i would come for some homemade Polish food. Nothing fancy at all but nice people and good food.

Was in the mood for some quick Polish food, and this was the perfect place. Food was excellent. Two of us split Ukrainian borscht(has vegetables. Absolutely delicious!), Zapiekanka(bread with cheese and mushrooms on top), and the pierogi sampler. Fantastic, and we’ll be coming back. Could be more aesthetically pleasing and they could have been more friendly, but it was clean and fine for fast food.

First time to Chefski’s. Small takeout Polish food place. Lot of Polish people in and out to pick up their food. Definitely had an advantage as to what they were ordering. I kept it simple and ordered the Chefski sampler. Prices have gone up a bit than what’s listed on Unilocal and on their website but that’s no biggie. Boy do the Polish know how to make Sauerkraut… it was SUPER. Actually the food was good not great but good. The pirogi samples for some reason I got prune… eww. Is that a real popular flavor in Poland? The Kielbasi was a little greasy but that’s the nature of the sausage and the flavor of the stuffed cabbage reminded me of liver but it was ok. No condiments come with the dish… mustard on request.

They have excellent perogies. And the Chefski’s sampler is awesome: pierogies, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and kraut. It has everything Polish you want.

Chinese takeout store style Polish Restaurant. Ukrainian Borscht and Grilled Kielbasa are probably best in the neighbor

Chefski’s isn’t really the kind of restaurant one goes to for a sit-down meal. It’s very popular for takeout. Unfortunately for me, on my first trip there, I didn’t think to order ahead and instead waited inside for my food, resulting in me smelling like Polish food for the rest of my work day. Otherwise, the food is delicious, very hearty, and classic.

The Perogies, the Perogies, the Perogies! I can’t speak for anything else here but if you want real deal and cheap(!) Perogies then this is your place.

Ok, I must say that the strawberry and blueberry perougies were the best I’ve ever had. While most would argue that the picnic style tables don’t raise it to the level of restaurant — I would argue that the food does. I had the stuffed cabbage and it was the best I’ve had(except for Nannie and Bob’s). The sauerkraut salad was excellent(the addition of carrot adds an unexpected sweetness that balances the tart. We will definitely be back.

As a former New Yorker, who lived near the heart of a Polish immigrant community in Queens, I have to say that Chefski’s is as close as it gets to quality food and quantity of food for the right price. Yes, it’s in Wallington, NJ and you have to figure in an extra $ 1.00 premium on top of what you normally get in NYC. They have terrific pierogies of all kinds of varieties; potatoes, prune, blueberries, strawberries, mushrooms and cabbage, etc… topped with fried onions. Deelish!!! One of the most not too reviewed foods are the wonderful soups!!! I know it’s summer, but during the winter months, you’ll love these hot flavorful soups from the classic boursh to chicken noodle soup to bean soup. All ranging from $ 2.50 — $ 4.00 for the big canister. My personal fav is the potato pancake with golash(meat). Hands down winner with the right touch of sour cream on top. All for $ 7.00. Yes, it should normally cost $ 6 if you’re across the Hudson, but I live in pathetic Jersey. Oh well, I must make living in Jersey as best as I could while scarfing up their«Hungarian pancakes».

If you need a quick meal to go and are in the mood for Polish fast food this is the place to go. Overall food quality and portions are pretty good. Some dishes here are done better than others with the soups needig a little work, as they tend to be bland and watery. I dont know what some reviewers are taking about but Chefski definitely has $ 6 daily specials. I eat here often and depending on the special I do take advantage of the great price. The portions are also good. I can pull out two meals from one of their dinners. Try the Zapiekanki — like French bread pizza, just like the ones at the outdoor stands in Poland back in the day. Awasome.

Yummy authentic pierogis, I could see a lady in back stuffing them after I placed my order. Not quite up to par with my boyfriends polish grandma(but those are really tough shoes to fill) but a pretty good substitute when we’re on the other side of the state. Considering the work that goes into pierogi making(I did it once, worth the effort but I made a mess of my kitchen!) I’d say the price is more than fair. I got the potato onion pierogis(5.50) and the kapusta mushroom pierogis(6.50), each serving came with 12, and was topped with fried onions. Not too greasy and they tasted fresh. Biggest complaint? Styrofoam takeaway containers. If you’re looking for a place with ambiance, this isn’t it. Fortunately my stomach doesn’t give a hoot about tablecloths and lighting. I’ll be back.

This has the atmosphere and the price of a fast food place but the food tastes home made. By that criteria and compared to all the places in the price range in the neighborhood, this is five star worthy. I am updating because I love the potato/cheese pirogi and the fried flounder was great, too. Very pleasant woman behind counter. Good value for money. No ambiance, plastic knife and fork, plastic table and chairs to give you the atmosphere. More of a takeout place. Parking in front. Two or three tables, I think. Food: nice quantity, quality was reasonable to good; home style, depending on your home. If your mama didn’t make it, but someone else’s did. Food tastes freshly made to order. Loved sausage and kraut, not too salty. Beef stroganoff was very good, so were meat pirogi. Polish drinks(apple-mint, orange-peach, cherry) yummy with fresh authentic flavors. We will return. Open 11am to 8 most days. Sundays 11 to 6.

Chefski’s has the right idea, but just doesn’t come through with the execution. The food had alright flavors but portions-wise I was let down, especially after reading all the reviews. Unilocalers and Chefksi’s menu online speak of this 6 dollar all day special, but I didn’t see anything like it. Smells like a bait-and-switch if you ask me. Even when I asked the eye-candy of a waitress about it, she didn’t seem to interested in explaining it to me. I’d go back to try and change my opinion though.

I read the reviews on Unilocal before I went to this place and I guess it got my expectations up a bit too much. I’ve had better polish food not just in Poland but in NJ. I got the bigos or Hunter’s stew and it just didn’t do it for me. The white borscht was bland. I thought the pirogies were pretty good but they alone wouldn’t inspire me to come back. The prices are pretty good though and the girl behind the counter was pretty cute.
