I have held off giving this place a bad review because it’s a new location and I wanted it to succeed. But after getting to a tough piece of hamburger, spitting it out and unfolding what I think is a piece of cloth, i am done giving this place the benefit of the doubt. Food is ok but takes a long time and the staff always seems to be arguing about something. I miss Jennys. Ya, the bentos were subpar but the garlic chicken and hamburgers were good, and you knew what you were getting.

Diner’s was best WAY back when, even Jenny’s was better! I got there at 5:45pm I didnt know their hours changed & they close at 6pm. Well … I asked for the saba with a disgusted look & cashier looks up at the clock says, «we close in 15 min.» I reply, «what can you cook in 15 min then?» Cashier starts yelling to the cook back & forth in Filipino(which is VERY rude in front of customers) & in between words I hear«frozen». Ok so I wait for my order of 3 chicken katsu plates which were done right before the minute of closing. Get home to my family they ate some of it. That evening, a plate was reheated to consume the leftover. After it came out of the micro, the rice smelled spoiled(which it was possibly already spoiled from earlier). We all had bad sore stomachs from these plates, chicken was probably«frozen»(per their Filipino conversation), rice spoiled. Normally I would contact to complain but instead Diner’s does not deserve my business. Too bad, because their chicken katsu was a fave with my family. Biggest tip: GOELSEWHERE! Sara’s BBQ is on the opposite end of this location, Laverne’s & Elena’s is across the street. WAY better food &WAY better for your hard working money.

Although this place is still new, it’s kind of unusual for me as the other Diners is more displeasing to the eye. You gotta try their pork guisantes plate, as u can see from my picture it has big chunks of pork. This is sooo rare as most places has it in little pieces where you can’t even taste it… I like it and the inside appearance is VERY clean, it makes u feel like ur not even in Waipahu… ;-) Gotta try it! But don’t get their Teriyaki meatballs, it is only lightly sauced, meaning you can taste more of the hamburger meat but not the teriyaki sauce.

I was excited that Diners opened in Waipahu, I liked their specials at their Waimalu location. At first the food was«ok», I guess it’s because I was so used to crappy Jenny’s Drive Inn food that anything else was better. After awhile, the quality of their food diminished. I ordered bento #2(did for quite some time) and I noticed they burned the teriyaki beef, the chicken katsu hardly had any CHICKEN and the spam was cut so thin it was crispy! Only the fish wasn’t burnt, but it was just regular Hoki you find in a Zip Pak, so nothing special about it. This was not just a fluke, it has happened several more times after with different dishes :(and yes, the cashiers are something else, it’s hard when English is their second language because they’ll argue with you if they were the ones that got MY order wrong and that we are wrong for their advertised prices for the ice cream in the front because they can’t read and match it to their paper menu on the counter.

This is my second time at this location. No improvement in service. Before we order our food we asked if the beef patties was home made. The cashier said yes so we order our burgers. We get our food and the order was wrong. We ask for refund she kept saying she can’t with an attitude then they all start rolling their eyes and speaking filipino. Really bad place to go. It’s not a good local friendly place to go. And star is only there because u have to use it.

Today is another one of those lunches I’m not too enthused about. Having no idea what to eat for lunch, I slowly found my way to this place again. The only thing on the ala carte selection that caught my eye was their Meat Loaf. Over all, their Meat Loaf plate lunch(8.32 tax included) was surprisingly worthy of high praise. The portion size was very good, which included 2 scoops rice, mac salad, and meat loaf with ketchup topping and a pool of brown gravy. The meat loaf itself was dense with unnoticeable amount of fillers(I’m not saying that pink slime may or may not be present). Surprisingly, not only was this dish hearty and comforting, the combination of brown gravy and that sweet and tangy ketchup actually works. Who would have thought? What could have been a blah lunch, was saved with a classic soul food.

Ordered kalbi and bbq chicken and bbq chicken and meat jun for easter dinner… funny no one was there but I figured everyone cooking for the holiday. Waited for 25 minutes for the order but again figured maybe no customers so they had to turn on the fryer or something. Got home to the worst bbq chicken I ever had and believe me I’ve had alot! It was like it was par boiled, dipped in bbq sauce and grilled barely as hardly any color and absolutely no taste! Kalbi was nice pieces slightly thicker than normal but again no taste! Mom said meat jun was good but chicken bad, nice portions but again no taste! Diners have been around for awhile but this one needs some help!!! Would not recommend!
