Such a satisfying Hawaiian meal. We checked in via Unilocal and got half off the 2nd taco. It was a good sized taco and super yummy too. My finance kept trying to scoop up the sauce that had fallen on his plate. We also tried the garlic shrimp and kalbi. The shrimp was plump and juicy, potatoes macaroni was good, but the kalbi’S sauce was too over powering. The meat was tender but the sauce was too harsh. I’m Korean and know what kalbi should taste like. It would’ve been better if they just poured teriyaki sauce on than their kalbi meat. Either way I’ll be back again for sure! Just no kalbi!

Portion was very generous. Coconut shrimp was too sweet, kalbi was well just soy sauce flavor and ono was too fishy with salsa had cilantro, Yuck. Maybe I didn’t chose the correct dish but everything we had was not very good. We were on our family vacation and was very hungry from driving around entire island all day. Still we had to discard most of our food.

I’m in love with their fish tacos! Always friendly service… grilled fish on tortilla with a mango salsa and shredded cabbage, you can add hot sauce if you like.

Small roadside dinner with a shark on top! Fresh fish and AHHH-MAZINGFOOD! ! The place was super busy on Thursday at 1pm and it’s easy to see why! Fast & nice service made easy by a simple menu with great combinations for any taste. Fish was light, flaky and combined with a great mango salsa. Next visit I’m going Kalbi with coconut shrimp!

Small shack on the side of the road but one of the best places I ate the fish tacos with mango salsa was bomb the malasadas were cooked to order so they were still hot amazing and the show roasted pork with onions super yummy a definite must stop

Solid joint on the windward(eastside) side of the island. Down the street you will find yourself at Waimanalo beach. Super convenient to grab some food and hit the sand. They have your typical steak/shrimp/fish plate variety with sides. Do yourself a favor and order the ono with mango salsa. Their tartar sauce was hella bomb, idk it was the perfect consistency/tangy. Skip the steak. Regret not getting furikake ahi. Even the basic side salad was pretty good haha. Also got some garlic fries which had a nice crisp and paired well with the ono. Simple, delicious, and cheap! I miss the island life :(hope to be back soon!

Never disappoints. Large portions, which is what makes my husband happy. He always orders the steak. I order the furikake ahi. The only downside is that it is almost always packed when we come.

I wish they had a mini for a combo meal, and it was junk that you had to pay for refills, overall the food was great though! They should have a spicy shrimp option too which would make it better. My kalbi was tasty and I loved the shrimp too!

Unbelievable. Our kayak guide from Kailua Adventures recommended this place. Fish tacos were best food I had the whole time we were in Oahu. The tacos have so much juice that the they double-up on the soft(corn) shells for each taco. Be sure to grab extra napkins, you will need them. Garlic fries are great combination to the fish tacos — tons of garlic on them, but surprisingly not too strong. Went on a Thursday at about 1:00, not too busy. Inside has about four table and some single bar seats around the periphery. Outside has about three tables with umbrellas. Service was pleasant also — even for first-timers. They came out to watch out expression after the first bite… :-)

Ok. Here we go. Just to clarify, this is not the same as the other Ono Steak & Shrimp at all. This one is defintely more local. We ordered an 8oz steak with a salad & white rice and a 4oz steak and garlic shrimp with a salad & white rice. We sat down inside and waited for our food(since we wanted to «dine in»). Upon sitting down, more customers ame in and the staff got busy and quickly overwhelemed(2 cashiers). We noticed that there was an order that sat waiting for the customers ahead of us for easily 10 minutes before someone from the back came up front to help the two cashiers. Our wait time for the food was approximately 15 minutes. Now, after a few hours at the beach, we was really looking forward to trying this place out. I must tell you that I was pretty disappointed. Let me tell you why. The steak had pretty much zero seasoning on it. It was cooked the way I wanted(which was medium), but there was just no flavor to it. I had to use the seasonings/sauces that were on the table to give this steak some flavor. Anybody can make steak like this with no flavor. The Garlic Shrimp wasn’t too bad, but nothing special. They do serve the shrimp with the skin on(so be prepared to peel it if you don’t like the skin). Perhaps we should have ordered something different. Maybe we’ll try again at some point, but we left with disappointed stomachs! There are 5 tables in the restaurant with a decent amount of seating. The ambiance is nice and the staff were friendly. There is also ample seating outside as well. Our dining experience was quite disappointing… maybe it was our menu choice. Perhaps yours will be better. Unilocal on!

This place was popping with locals. There is inside and outside seating available. Outside seating does need some TLC –paint is chipping and the umbrellas barely holding up. They have a free parking lot outside. Food came out hot and was tasty. Didn’t know what to order so I asked the girl behind the counter. She pointed to a few photos hanging up saying that those were their most famous dishes. We went with the garlic shrimp & steak plate, garlic ahi plate, and teriyaki chicken with a side of fries. Also, ordered a fish taco mentioned Unilocal and got another one at half price. Add on a drink for a total of $ 45. Would definitely come back here again. ALOHA

Love this place, food came in a good quality, fresh ingredients and they cooked it right. I had furikake ahi that taste really good and flavorful. Fish taco is okay but they came with fresh and tasty mango salsa. Service is just a little slow but who cares.

Ummm… all I’ll say is this — it would be a shame if you didn’t stop here. #thatisall Okay, okay, I’ll say more than that, it is Unilocal after all. We were on the east side of the island(visiting the light house) and I knew Ono was on the way back. We of course had to make a stop, because most of us were getting pretty hangry! It’s quite island like, laid back atmosphere, simple interior and plenty of amazing free smells. The menu is not too complicated(despite what others have said here) and we opted for… * Steak & Shrimp Plate * Garlic Shrimp Plate * Coconut Shrimp * GARLICFRIES * Fish Tacos * Spam Fried Rice I can’t say anything bad about everything we ate. The steak was not overcooked and flavored well(not over powering), some will argue«who has the best shrimp» on the island, but Ono had solid garlic shrimp. Is it the best on the island, maybe, but that is up to the person eating it. GARLICFRIES, you must get this and then get an order to go — don’t plan on making out with anyone afterwards. I’m a taco fiend and had to try out their fish ones — solid choice, crispy and fresh veggies. This joint is all about fresh and making it right — serving tourists and locals alike — make your way here. Note: Parking — plenty behind the building. Groups — no worries here, seating inside and out.

Food: fish tacos with fruit salsa were spectacular. Memorable garlic fries were fresh and a novel approach. Service: counter service with a small wait. Atmosphere: casual; satisfying sense of being off the beaten path. Limited outdoor seating on concrete picnic tables is really pleasant – get out there and claim your spot!

This place was quite delicious! the place is very unassuming but there is some serious cooking going on. We had the garlic shrimp plate, garlic ahi and the ono with papaya/mango salsa. There we were stuffed to the brim you don’t want to stop eating because it is so good. Can’t wait to visit next time!

Decided to change it up from the usual poke and loco moco and get some fish tacos! I had another place in mind but since it was our last day in Hawaii and north shore was too far, this place was a great alternative. Of course, Unilocal has been a great friend during my travels and this place was delicious. It’s pretty hidden from the Main Street and is just a few blocks from a secluded beach(waimahalo beach?) so it was perfect. I got their fish tacos because it seemed to be one of their popular items and I was pretty sick of shrimp honestly. Their fish tacos are made with mango salsa and their catch of the day which was ahi when I ordered. Overall really great fish taco place. Their bathroom is located outside and they have an indoor dining area that seats ~20 people.

Bookmark this place and fit it into your island itinerary. The portions and flavors are AMAZING. Friendly staff accommodate your needs /wants with your choice of substitutions, some of which may have an upcharge depending on what you’re asking for. Our party of five shared different plate lunches so we could all sample several house specials. Highly Recommend: — Garlic Shrimp with Rice & Mac. Buttery, garlicky heaven sopped all up in your rice. — Furikake Ahi with amazing house Wasabi Aioli on the side. I sub’d the rice and potato mac salad with a Toss Salad & Garlic Fries to lessen the guilt LOL — Steak with Potato Mac Salad, sub’d with Brown Rice. Juicy perfection, seared perfectly medium rare with a slight pink in the center. Better ventilation is the only thing that could’ve made this a 5 star experience. We came during hurricane season so it was hella humid & hot AF while we ate inside on a muggy afternoon. Despite sitting directly in front of an electric fan with my toddler, we were still suffocating, drenched in sweat by the end of our meal. Tips: — Plenty parking in the back; — Credit cards and phone orders accepted. How convenient! — Mention Unilocal for a deal on their infamous tacos; — If you have any room left in your tummies, have a malasada or shave ice; — Take it to go and eat at Waimanalo Beach a block away or come for a satisfying meal after hiking Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Trail. Ono Steak & Shrimp Shack is a MUST if you’re in the area. Even if you’re not, make a special trip to Waimanalo for the onolicious plates. You won’t be disappointed.

When making a trip into Waimanalo for a beach day, eating options are limited. Either 10 options in Waimanalo town on K highway, or venture the way you came(Kailua or Hawaii Kai). There is a strip of eateries near Waimanalo beach park(Kenekes ring a bell?) That provide lunch for the day tripper. While Keneke is usually my go to, or go back to Koko Marina, I discovered Ono Steaks and Shimp on this trip, widening the gap of what is available now in Nalo town. Mostly plate lunch items, but offered a few more«healthy» fish and seafood options that might be lighter than your 3 patty loco moco next door. I got the garlic and shrimp mix combo, and thought it was pretty good. I would have liked the steak a little more rare(it was med-well) but they didnt ask me. The shrimp is no Giovanni, but it’s good in it’s own way. The garlic fries were a hit with my group as well. Recommened!

Wow you really feel the power of ono when they hand you your takeout box and it weighs like a brick! We stopped here after exploring some nearby beaches and were blown away by the care and value provided by the guys at Ono Steaks and Shrimp Shack. Definitely some truth to that name! The portions were huge, and we were given an arsenal of sauces to go with our foods. The seafood was very fresh(we had shrimp and ahi steaks), and the beef steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. It may ‘feel’ like fast casual food but the taste and flavor is certainly gourmet!

Ono seamed to be the best bet after a day at the Byono-In temple and Kualoa Ranch on the Windward coast of Oahu. It was located next to Waimanalo Beach Park, so we took out the food and enjoyed it with a perfect and priceless mountain and ocean view. We ordered the following: — No. 5, which came with 5 garlic shrimps and 4oz of steak, white rice, and a macaroni/potato salad. — Fish tacos(fish of the day) — Side order of Coconut shrimp Everything we ordered was spot on. The coconut shrimp was crunchy and really coconutty, both the steak and shrimp were juicy, and the fish tacos was fresh, with a sweet and tangy mango salsa on top. They had a lot of items on the menu, and I can’t wait to try more of their food.
