I have been wanting to try this place for a while now, and have heard rave reviews from friends and family. My reviews are mixed, but I’ll start with the good. We made a last minute decision to stop here for dinner on Saturday night. The hostess allowed us to choose inside or outside, so we decided to dine outdoors. The dining area has a breathtaking view of the West Maui Mountains. It was perfect for our romantic dinner for two. The food is delicious. We started with the Kalbi Beef Appetizer. The meat was tender, and served on fresh, pickled vegetables. Our entrees included the Cioppino and the Mahimahi. Both entrees were full of flavor. Neither item came with any starch(with the exception of a slice of toasted brioche that came with the cioppino), but the restaurant does serve warm fresh bread. I was told that the service here was great. Unfortunately our table was overlooked. After being seated by our hostess, we sat for a while– decided to enjoy the scenery and had our water glasses refilled twice before the hostess came back and realized we hadn’t been served yet. She was kind enough to take our drink and food order, and our waitress eventually made her way to our table and apologized. I can’t say that our service improved dramatically from there, we still had a few moments we thought we were forgotten again, however they did comp our desserts. Overall the food was excellent, but for the price, I would expect the service to be on point. The restaurant wasn’t too busy – maybe they were having an off day.

Unsurpassed dining experience. From the balmy breeze, to the views, to the service, to the food. Most things are made on premise — everything else is as locally sourced as possible. The décor was tasteful and obviously put together with careful attention to detail — the plantation boasts beautiful views of Hawaiian wild scenery. The food. Oh, the food! To start with, the bread was AMAZINGLY made and the butter was AMAZINGLY fresh. The drinks and coffee were refreshing and a breeze to the senses. We followed with a lovely couple of vegetarian small plates — the gnocchi were heavenly pillows for my tongue to drift to sleep on — the chickpea panisse the tastiest root vegetable ratatouille — the lamb sausage hearty hearth food — I’ll stop now, but I was so impressed. Our server was just the sweetest, most personable food service professional I’ve met. Don’t miss this place! The sweetest end to our time in Maui.

I had dinner with my wife last night at the Neil house. I had not been in the tropical plantation complex for more than 15 years. Was so surprised at what they have done there. The restaurant is absolutely inspired. Artifacts from the sugarcane days are incorporated into the design with lots of open space and natural elements of the area and an era gone past. Lots of history in Waikapu town which the tropical plantation was the center of. We were seated on the table that we requested outside on the lake. The views of the west Maui Mountains and the vastness of the 6000 acre farm laid before us. We ordered an appetizer of pickled akuke served with homemade toast. Excellent kind of like marinated sardines but super fresh. All the food here is locally sourced all of the beef you can view in the fields in front of you. Pretty amazing. It truly is a farm to table experience. After appetizers and cocktails we had a garden salad that was loaded with heritage vegetables and a lovely vinaigrette. My wife had the gnocchi, outstanding as we had heard from so many reviews here. I had the Kawai bronze and cappellini with muscles and homemade chorizo. All of the flavors were unlike anything we have experienced in Maui restaurants for a very long time. That is because the food so alive & fresh. Unfortunately we did not have time for dessert but I’m sure it was outstanding. By the way they make all of their own Brad’s, the breadboard was outstanding. Happy to say that they do not charge for bread as seems to be the trend in some Maui restaurants now. All in all a five-star experience. The service was needless to say impeccable.

This is a beautiful setting. The view of the mountainside/farm from the dinning area is really nice. It is kind of a bigger plantation experience than just dinning. You could spend some time here. Decorations, ambiance, mountainside farm setting, view all 5 star! Service = 5 star! Long descriptions of food items, spices, and effort to local source = 5 star! Taste and texture… not so good= 2 star. Everything on my plate tasted the same and had the same soft texture. I finished my wife’s meal also because she did not like it that much. Same thing. She had bacon wrapped pork tenderloin and the bacon was crispy and good… that was the only flavor on the plate. Not bad but total lack of flavors/textures. I would go back… and I would recommend it to others… I think the food will improve.

This place is so cool! Just had happy hour there with my boyfriend, which is 3−5pm. It was delicious and the quality and presentation were fantastic! Service was great. Our waitress was Adrianna. The price was also surprising reasonable. And you can’t beat the ambiance. After we ate we walked around the Plantation. We enjoyed the cool structures and the cute animals. There were even turtles and baby ducks in the pond!

We decided to stop in for Happy Hour. The location at the Tropical Plantation is BEAUTIFUL !!! Really relaxing atmosphere. We decided on the Roast Ham and Burger from the Happy Hour Menu(3 – 5). Both items were fantastic. Really fresh local ingredients. The dessert menu looked great but I was too full from my Roast Ham… Next time.

Our single best meal experience of our trip, if you’ve never done it before, leave the ordering to your waiter/waitress. We let Adriana our waitress order for us, and we weren’t disappointed. She brought us about 9 small plate dishes to share, 2 – 3 at a time and everything was great. The dishes were all creative, and fresh, from handmade pastas to probably the best vegetarian dish we’ve ever eaten, and all the meats/fish were excellent.

High quality fresh food. Simple. Great atmosphere. Worth the money. Staff friendly. Ordered the carne Asada tacos. Homemade tortillas. Made the dish. The anchovies appetizer was almost perfect. It needed a wedge of lemon but staff too busy to flag down.

For our very first meal out away from our newborn, and for our second wedding anniversary, my husband and I were thrilled to try the Mill House. We’d made reservations almost a month in advance, and were looking forward to it for weeks! When we arrived, the hostess asked if we preferred inside or outside. We both preferred inside, and we were asked to wait. We figured that the inside must have been pretty busy, but after the ten-minute wait, we were seated in an almost-deserted dining room. Weird. Instantly, our server was extremely kind and helpful, and she gave us great feedback and recommendations on our menu choices. We had the caraway gnocchi, I had the poached chicken, and my husband had the steak. We each got a cocktail to start, and then ordered glasses of pinot noir to go with our entrees. My cocktail was the White Warrior– strong, not sweet, and absolutely delightful. The lemongrass oil gave it an incredible scent! While we were still working on our small plate(the gnocchi, by the way, was INCREDIBLE) and our cocktails, our server came back to ask if we were ready for our pinot. I guess we were mistaken to say«not yet,» because once our entrees came, we had to sit and wait for another ten minutes to finally get our wine! We sat and poked at our food while we waited for our wine, and once it came, we finished our entrees in just a couple minutes– the portions were ridiculously small. My husband’s strip loin was just a few small chunks of steak, and the couple of spoonfuls of polenta that accompanied my meagre chicken were not satisfying at all. Everything tasted good, nothing to write home about, but the portions left us totally baffled. We do enjoy eating at high-end establishments on special occasions, but we’ve never been so unsatisfied with our portions anywhere! We ordered two desserts– the«milk and honey» and the«coffee and doughnuts.» Like our entrees, they were beautifully plated, and they were both tasty, but we were still so hungry after dinner that we finished both desserts in seconds. They were positively tiny. If we go back, we decided, we’ll go for cocktails and small plates. We’re not going to take a chance on the entrees again. Even though the prices were very reasonable, it was definitely not a meal we’d repeat.

We followed this place in Instagram and the pictures drew us there. Took a trip to Iao Valley and stopped by afterwards. The grounds are beautiful here. Very peaceful. They make everything there. Grown it bake it… The food was so fresh. We will definitely go back!

As you saw in my previous review we were not to thrilled with the food. However, the response from the manager with genuine concern leaves me wanting to go back. I hope it was just an off day. We love the idea and ambiance of this place so we hope they improve on quality and consistency in the future. Will update again on the food when we return.

I love the ambiance of this place, especially at night. Tiki torches, next to the water, outside or inside. They have a fire pit but it wasn’t going either of the times I went. A short hike from the parking lot of the Tropical Plantation. The drinks are unique and use fresh juices, food is all made with fresh ingredients, nice presentation, and unless you’re a real foodie, you may not recognize some of the ingredients. FYI, the menu changes. I enjoyed the pizzeta and really loved the pasta, which was very rich and in retrospect I should’ve shared so I would have room for dessert. Some in my party didn’t love the fish they ordered. Discussing our dinner experience, the consensus was that the ambience was A+, we had no waiting,(wasn’t busy at all), but for it’s location not being in the prime tourist area, it seems that the menu and prices cater to tourists, who most likely would not bother to venture that far from their resorts for dinner when they have such a selection nearby. I’d like to come more often and suggest to locals for a night out, but for price/portion it’s more of a special occasion thing.

Really enjoyed this place. Went here after ziplining on the mountain. Was hesitant based on the beautiful surroundings but it was really one of the best meals we had in Maui. It is a chef owned chef-driven place and we really enjoyed our lunch overlooking the pond please try the mushroom handmade pasta it was literally fantastic.

The Mill House is located on Honoapiilani Hwy. Its super easy to find because its located in the same place as Maui Tropical Plantation. There is also plenty of free parking. We decided to visit Mill House for dinner. I really liked the décor and ambiance here. They had two train carts in the venue, which was used to separate the bar and the dining area. I loved the high ceilings and large door/windows that looked out into the plantation. I think my only complaint was how cold it was, haha. Since its all open, there would be gust of wind blowing pass us constantly and it was just making me freeze! The Grub. [[ GNOCCHI $ 12 ]] OMG this gnocchi was so good, it was like eating small pillows of yummy goodness! [[ FARMSALAD $ 15 ]] I personally did not care for the salad. Meh should have ordered something else. [[ MAHIMAHI $ 28 ]] The mahi was really good and tasted great with the veggies served. Overall I wouldn’t mind coming back to visit my next time in Maui. We weren’t really that hungry when we came by so we only ordered a small amount of food.

This is kinda remote. Seems more like a lunch place when the other businesses are open. Really great event location. I can see why people get married here. So picturesque. We walked the grounds before our dinner reservation. It’s nice and open like many island restaurants. Definitely make a early dinner RSVP so you can see all the sights. There aren’t many people here for dinner. We had our pick of tables. They offer shawls for ladies if it gets too cold outside. Very laid back feel. We aren’t in a rush and the service isn’t rushed either. Drink menu is all fresh and as supplies last. Lilikoi fizz was fantastic so glad I got the last one. Fun cocktails. Each one better than the last. Food: everything is made for quality NOTQUANTITY. Tapas, salad, pasta are all served family style for a tasting. Everyone should get personal entrée. Apps: gnocchi awesome, congee my fave, salads very fresh and crisp. Loved the order of sweet rolls. Cioppino was excellent. Things were a bit salty for my palate but hubby and rest of family really loved everything. Ono was yummy with cauliflower purée. Coffee and dessert to finish the night also unique and high praise.

THISISFORTHECHEF’S TABLE. We had the great pleasure of booking tickets for the Chef’s table, which is kind of like the test kitchen for The Mill House. There were 7 courses cooked and plated live and it was amazing with each bite. All the ingredients are from the plantation, so the menu is different each time based on what is in season. If you are a foodie, enjoy good wine and cocktails, and want something completely different on Maui, this is the place!

I am very pleased with the food & location. It is such a beautiful place to celebrate any occasion or just looking to hang out. My mother in law works there and she wanted us to try Chef Jeff’s food, so we tried all the diff things that was on the menu & i wasn’t disappointed. I was very impressed on how he can create such art on his plate, every bite i took i wanted more. The desert is also amazing, the chocolate marshmallow is my favorite. It was so sweet of my mother in law to introduce us to the servers, cooks, & of course the man behind his cooking Chef Jeff. They’re all welcoming & nice. Thats the kind of place i like to eat at, feeling comfortable & knowing you are well taken cared of.
