This place is good, though service was lacking. We’ve been here twice. The first night, I got the ribs, and my hubby got fish tacos. The ribs are really fantastic, some of the best I’ve had! Odd for a beach spot, but really — they have excellent BBQ. I recommend it! Our server, a man, was nice and although the service wasn’t awesome, we got our food and drinks and we were happy. The next time we came, we had the same male server. We came for the Wednesday $ 20 full rack of ribs special, and happy hour. We each got 2 beers, and split the ribs. We got a side of cornbread for our son(good cornbread, baby approved!). The server was really slow with us, we had to flag him down to order a second beer, while he lavished attention on other tables around us. We weren’t thrilled about that. But then, the bill came out $ 10 more than we thought it should have been. They didn’t give us the deal on the rib special. My husband pointed it out, and the guy actually argued with us — saying we came in before 4pm so we couldn’t get the deal. We knew we came in after 4, and we told him so. He rushed off, saying«the computer will tell me when you came in.» The computer, in all of its wisdom, told him we were in after 4! So, he discounted us. But it was quite a production, and we kind of felt like maybe it happened on purpose. It was odd that one night the service was fine and the next it was so odd. But the food was good, and the ambiance is nice. There is live music sometimes, and you are on the harbor, so it’s a nice experience if you get a good server.

We may have just hit it at a bad time, but our experience was not great… not even marginal. Stopped there for breakfast on the way to the airport. Waiter looked and sounded like he’d had a rough night. Took us almost an hour to get our food. the whole restaurant smelled like stale beer. Not kid-friendly…no kids menu, and the highchair(once we finally got one ourselves) was broken. We ordered a small milk for the baby, and they brought us a 32 Oz milk and charged us $ 4.00 for it. Oh, and one of us ordered eggs benedict, but they were out of hollandaise sauce. We won’t be back.

Great location and view and the main game in this small town since they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had breakfast here one day and dinner on a Tuesday when they have a $ 249-oz lobster special. Breakfast was alright… nothing special. The lobster dinner was just ok. Lobster was a bit dry and the Potatoes au Gratin was mushy and not very good. Good steamed veggies with it. We asked what they had for dessert only to be told«to be honest, desserts aren’t what we are known for»(aka she didn’t recommend dessert). BBQ smells good but didn’t try it. So, they are getting some business from us due to the walking distance location from our condo but I wouldn’t drive to eat here!

First off, we were served by Beth — who did an excellent job. I tried the $ 3.50 Happy Hour Margaritas and Mai Tais. I can do better and so can some bars, but these were tasty drinks for the reasonable price(especially by Maui standards). I had a mahi mahi stir fry special one night and mahi & shrimp another night. The stir fry sauce struck me as a Hawaiian version of teriyaki. A tad sweet so if you don’t like that, I’d ask for«light on the sauce». However, the mahi and shrimp were both tasty. Both dishes came with lots of fresh and crispy veggies. My family members are vegan and liked the veggie burgers, veggie wraps, salads, and sweet potato fries(especially the fries). Great view of the bay and fresh sea breezes. Needless to say, earlier arrival gets you the best tables.

The location of Beach Bums is great. You run into immediately it after getting off boats in Ma’alaea. The food is OK. Some of the appetizers were good — the sweet potato fries were so flavorful, they didn’t need any sauce. The fried zucchini was thick cut and soggy; it wasn’t bad, but I prefer thinner cuts of zucchini that gets a little crisper, and it relied on the Ranch dressing for flavor. I got the prime rib sandwich that had a lot of potential with some sort of cheese. When it arrived, it was pretty flavorless, and the au jus didn’t have that much flavor. It was greasy from the bread being grilled with butter, I think. I’d go back to hang out, and I’d for sure order the sweet potato fries.

Best BBQ on maui. Love the food, and view of the harbour. Go to place anytime we go whale watching or snorkeling out of maalea. Only draw back is that service can be slow at times, but that just gives you more time to enjoy the view. Even saw a whale breaching last time we were there!

If you LOVEBBQ this place is for you… Good location plenty of parking. We have been here for dinner many times. Lunch can be a little crowed with all the boats in the harbor coming back from morning trips so allow time for that. The dinners are huge really plenty to split with someone or have plenty to bring home. My 2 favorites are the Pulled Pork Sandwich or the Sliced Brisket Dinner.

Abby, bless you! We had gone on a sunrise whale watch & were hungry. We went in with a cranky & overly tired & hungry toddler. Our server immediately brought us $ 3, yes, $ 3 Bloody Mary’s(doubles for $ 5). Screwdrivers are $ 3 at breakfast as well and we knocked those back too. The Portuguese sausage eggs Benedict was incredible. So, too was the fried rice. But the service was phenomenal, Abby brought our crying toddler beans new water toys to keep, which calmed him down and helped salvage the morning meltdown. There were several other dishes we would have liked to try and we will for sure be back. Mahalo!

My wife ordered a Mahi Mahi sandwich to go and it was excellent. Good portion of grilled fish on a nice grilled bun with sides. Fries were good as well. Would definitely order to go again.

My friend took me here to watch my Denver Bronco Game and have breakfast before my flight home. This place has a nice atmosphere as it is by the docks and is open air. It has a mix crowd of locals and tourist so the atmosphere is nice. I decided to eat loco moco and a Maui Beer. Loco moco was great nice flavor and the beef patty was nice and crispy. The beer was light but a little hoppy but easy to drink. The only con was that or waiter was slow and took him forever to bring my beer and my check. I already finished my meal when the beer arrived… I was upset about getting my check late too bc I knew i had to fly out later.

We went for lunch. It was busy but we didn’t mind waiting. The wings and blue cheese appetizer was good. We ordered the wings as buffalo wings but the sauce was not spicy. The waiter was really terrible. He did not even check on us the entire time we were eating out entrées. I understand that it was busy but it seemed he was checking on other tables. We finally had to waive him downl for a refill. I ordered the teriyaki burger with potato Mac salad and spicy Mac and cheese. He ordered the ahi tuna wrap with sweet potato fries. It was just so-so. Good location on the harbor with a nice view. They have live music every night so we may go back for drinks and the view.

The hot wings are quite amazing. Perfectly seasoned and crispy, ask for them spicy. I had the blackened mahi fish tacos and it was seasoned super good! They do put lots of cheese which takes from some of the flavor. The chopped brisket sandwich was also really delicious.

Nestled right on the beach of the quiet town of Maalea, Beach bums bbq offers probably the largest restaurant/bar in the area. My wife and I were staying over at the condos nearby so we were inclined to make the trip by foot one day, hoping to get a decent bite while enjoying the gorgeous view. My experience was tainted unfortunately by by the poor service and food. For folks who don’t care about taste and are satisfied with beer and fries, this may be the place for you. But beyond the view beach bums offered, I wasn’t impressed. Focus was more on quantity and not on quality. On my next trip to Maalea, I will skip this place unless I simply want a beer and look out to sea.

We like this place. It is a good value with really good food. Tuesday is lobster and prime rib night. For 30 $ two people can eat a big yummy meal. Never a fan of BBQ, I had been avoiding Wednesday rib night. For 20 $ you get two huge racks of delicious smoked tender ribs. I loved it! You get to pick two sides and it is served with corn bread. Again, this easily serves two to three people. I am a believer in smoked ribs now. Meanwhile, you are feasting at the harbor listening to live music and the ambiance couldn’t be better. The service is a tad spotty but generally good. If you go before 6 pm, you can score some great happy hour prices on drinks too. An all around pleasant experience and good food.
