The food was pretty good and the service was super fast. The shrimp pasta was great and the shrimp was cooked well. The pizza was super good and very thin crusted. There are lots of topping choices. We orders a pesto pizza with sun dried tomatoes and Italian sausage. That combo was great. The drinks were good and Italian soda was tasty. The dessert was ok, nothing special, but still good. We got the Moose and it was super rich so good to share. It was a little pricy but not too bad. Overall, it was pretty good.

I had make this my favorite place to eat. I had the pizza many times, then one time I received a burnt pizza. I mentioned to the waiter to please let the chef know I was unhappy with the pizza — I was shocked no offer to take off the bill and the comment from the Chef was«next time ask that it is not burnt»! I told the waiter your kidding right? Unfortunately, he was not kidding!

Couldn’t have been happier with this little treasure. If you’re heading to te volcano this is the perfect place to grab lunch. Every dish we ordered was delicious and the flight of four beers for $ 10(you choose the beers too!) was an outstanding value and way to try the local brews. We will definitely be back any time were on the big island!

UPDATE6÷11÷16 Stale focaccia was falling apart. I had to eat my sandwich with a fork. The mahi was fresh, but the bread made it unpleasant. No dressing on the salad. My friend had the lamb sandwich with the same stale focaccia. The lamb was chopped up pieces — also hard to eat. The servers were very nice.

We stopped at Ohelo Café to celebrate our last night on the big island. We came with a group of 10 and called ahead for reservations. They had the table ready upon arrival. The main dining room is fairly small, but they also have a nice patio area. The entrees are moderately priced between $ 14-$ 40. We ordered 2 pizzas, the 4 cheese pizza with mushrooms and pepperoni and a white pizza with the homemade Italian sausage. We also ordered the ahi tuna, shrimp Alfredo and ribs. All of the dishes were nicely presented and delicious. The waiter was attentive and the service was great. He kept all of our glasses filled and made sure we didn’t need anything. We would definitely return to this restaurant.

Delicious dinner spot right outside of the Volcano park. This place is small and was packed but for the location and the availability it was top notch! Make sure to make a reservation in order to guarantee you get it or order some pizza to go. I ordered a Filet Mignon special they had on the menu and it came out perfectly cooked with fresh veggies and potatoes. Dessert was a a little less what was expected but delicious. They had a chocolate mousse with green chili flakes on top that gave it a sweet and spicy flavor to it. Food– 9⁄10 Drinks– 8⁄10 — decent wine selections Dessert — 8⁄10 Price-7/10(it’s still vacation spot) Ambiance– 8⁄10 Service– 9⁄10

This place gets 6 stars out of 5. Service was very attentive, food was fantastic, convenient location right outside volcano park, pleasant ambience. This place is busy, be sure to make a reservation for prompt seating. Now, I would like to rave about the food. Wife and I shared the strawberry arugula salad, grilled duck, and grilled ahi. Went with their recommendation of medium rare for the duck and ahi and the meat came out tender and absolutely delicious. Would come back if we are back in big island!

Needed a restaurant near Volcanoes National Park that was both kid friendly and adult friendly and I found it in Ohelo Café. We didn’t have a reservation, but arrived right when they opened for dinner and they were able to accommodate my daughter and I. Was really tempted by their wine list and all the beer and cocktail offerings, but decided to skip since I had to drive. My daughter customized her 4 cheese pizza with olives and pepperonis. The list of toppings she could choose from was great! I had the Kauai shrimp arrabbiata which was generous in shrimp pieces and super delicious. The desserts were a little too fancy for my daughter so we skipped. The service was great! Make sure you park on the side of the restaurant since the parking fronting the restaurant belongs to the general store while they are open.

We had a great dinner! The salads are light and fresh, delicious fresh dressing. Choose an add on of Kaua’i shrimp or Ono. Cold local beer. Our daughter had pizza and ginger beer. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. Give it a try. you won’t be disappointed!

Ahi Poke was absolutely amazing. Beer they suggested(Big Swell IPA), I ended up having two. The Ka’u fish… made me feel like I was in another world(dopamine release!). Just an amazing experience. Chef Will and Chef John were incredibly polite, friendly, and professional between co-workers. This place is MUST visit for dinner if you are in the area. Above and beyond my expectations. We ate at the counter, I highly recommend it. Watching the staff prepare every dish to order and speaking with them about their process made it all the better. Thanks guys! PS — I’m a big eater… I’m super stuffed.

What a gem. Great service, great drinks, outstanding food. I’m a crème brûlée snob and theirs is the best I’ve ever had– and I’ve traveled the world. Reservations are a must.

This place was amazing! We got the ribeye and pizza. First of all, the ribeye was huge! They cooked it to perfection. The pizza was phenomenal. I would definitely come back to this place! We sat at the Chef’s table, it was really cool! We got to chat with the chef and watch everyone work. I didn’t think I’d like it but I really did. The dessert was absolutely amazing too!

The Inn Keeper at the Bed & Breakfast cottage that we stayed in recommended this restaurant so we had to try it. The first night we were tired so ordered a pizza to go and it was so good that we decided to come back for dinner. The dinner was very enjoyable and the operation is run very smoothly. This place would knock the socks off many of the popular restaurants in Oahu. It is rather small but we were greeted and seated right away. Our waitress was Taliesin according to the receipt and she was definitely 5-Star. She handled our orders expertly and made our dining experience enjoyable. The drinks were ok but we liked the Mojito. We ordered the Olive Starter appetizer and it was ok. The best was the lamb entrée which was cooked to perfection and the taste was awesome. We also had the Kauai Shrimp Alfredo which was good. The portion size was large enough so that we could not have dessert. We really enjoyed our dining experience here and will come back to dine again if we make it back to the Big Island.

Great food and great people. I would only recommend sitting at the chef table. The food was delicious and being able to meet the people behind the scenes made our experience even better. Really enjoyed the food and conversion!!!

I really wanted to like this place. I mean it looks great, with a fancy décor set off by a cozy wood fired oven. At 3000 feet, it gets chilly in Volcano. But, it was fifty dollars for lunch for three. I had been dreaming of Mahi tacos for weeks before getting to the big Island. I though my dream had come true at Ohelo, but my Mahi Mahi was burnt. I mean not Cajun style blackened, but just plain burnt fish. I waited 45 minutes and paid 15 dollars a plate for burnt trash topped with aloe sauce. The server, when she bothered to notice us, didn’t comment on the pile uneaten of black fish on my plate. I should have complained, but I didn’t want to spend another 45 minutes while their swamped kitchen wrecked even more prime cuts of fish. My son’s pizza was excellent through, and large enough to feed both of us. But seriously, restaurant owners, your wait staff needs to pay attention. Most customers won’t complain because they don’t want to look like schmucks. If your kitchen wrecks a order, your waitresses are your quality control! If your cook is a idiot, your waitress have to check the orders before they go out.

The entrees are really good! Lamb is tender and juicy and the shrimp scampi is probably one of the best I ever had. I would skip the appetizers as they’re nothing amazing, but the chowders are always delicious!

I had dinner here last night with the BF and I have to say I am so sad that this restaurant is in Volcano Village since we live Kailua Kona… oh about 100 miles from this place. This IS the best dinner I have eaten on this island. Who would have thought such a jewel of a place would be located in the tiny town of Volcano Village? The BF and I decided to do a staycation at the Volcano House in hopes to see some lava at night(that’s another review). Since we were going to be on that side for the entire day, I got on Unilocal and looked up some places to eat near the park. Boy, am I glad I did and that I chose to make a reservation 2 nights before our arrival. We got there right when it opened and there was already a crowd of people waiting to be seated. Luckily, we had a 5:30 reservation so we got seated immediately. The appetiser menu changes based on what they have that night and last night it was scallops as their special appetiser so we ordered that and their pesto pizza to which we added mushrooms and their housemade Italian sausage. The crust is super thin and it’s baked in stone fired oven. It was delicious! Then we also got a spicy pasta with gigantic Kauai prawns. The flavor was on point and the prawns were cooked to perfection. That was served with some amazing bread to soak up the sauce. Our server was AMAZING, the food was the best on this island and the food was out in less than 10 minutes from when we ordered it. This was with an almost full house, mind you. By the time we left, there wasn’t an empty seat in the place and there was a long line out the door. Do yourself a favor and spend one night in Volcano just so you can eat at this restaurant… it’s THATGOOD!

Located in the same building as The Volcano Store, Ohelo Café is comfortable and welcoming with wood floors and wood accents with tables to seat 2 or more. There is outdoor seating as well at a long wood bar-type table that seats up to 8 comfortably. There are fresh flowers at every table, which is a nice touch! Greeted warmly and the waitstaff is friendly and helpful. Pretty busy for lunch, even at 1:30 p.m. We weren’t apprised of the specials for the day and we had to remind our server several times that we wanted water. Otherwise, good service. Tried the strawberry arugula salad with a piece of the fresh fish of the day — ono. The salad came with a delicate vinaigrette dressing and crusted goat cheese that was very flavorful. Also tried the pulehu boneless short ribs on a bed of white rice and a fresh salad. The portion was very generous and the meat was cooked perfectly(medium rare), but the meat was tough and tasteless though it was perfectly cooked a medium rare; had to add shoyu. They also offer pizza, soup, and sandwiches. Willing to try other offerings on the menu!

Super awesome option to try when visiting the barren food area of Hawaii Volcanos National Park. Who knew you could find finer food in Volcano, HI? There are only a handful of eating options in Volcano Village(right outside the park) and maybe 2 options inside of the park, so this five star restaurant earns 5 stars not only for the area, but for the diversity and level of dining it provides. Each entrée is about $ 25 but if you are on a budget there are salad, sandwich, and pizza options that rank below $ 20 even for the dinner menu. Salad and Pizza was just OK, but the entrees we really special and nicely prepared. I liked my Ono fish dish, and sampled from the rack of lamb and rack or ribs-all good. Local beer on tap here too! Casual vibe for dress, so no worries if you’re leaving the park and in your hiking day gear.
