Not a place that has food that I would rave about, but it was acceptable. Prices are reasonable for the food quality. The reason to have this on your radar is that it is really close to the entrance to the national park. We stopped in for breakfast before entering the park and ate that on the picnic tables in front of the joint. We got cold sandwiches to go and enjoyed those while hiking in the park itself.

Great fresh food and a great price! We both got turkey sandwiches on the three seed bread, which was super soft, flavorful and moist. The sandwiches are very big. About the size of two typical sandwiches, so if you’re not a huge eater you should split it. Loved the friendliness of the staff. They even gave me a vinaigrette dressing for my sandwich at no additional charge, cause I’m weird like that. Will return for sure.

Great simple home cooked food very affordable, vegetarian chili soup in a bread was amazing. Close to the NP for great food option while visiting the park.

Cute little house with good sandwiches. I recommend the sandwich with all vegetables. There are a lot of cheese on the Thursday dish Parmesan chicken.

For what this establishment advertises, this café was awesome! GREAT sandwiches worth the money, good variety of options, and friendly, gracious hospitality! All outdoor seating, self bussing, sweet and simple. This was exactly what we needed after a day of exploring!

Great breakfast bento with two choices of breakfast meat, a thick layer of scrambled eggs over rice. Fried rice when they have it, the chili is great also that warms the stomach after a few seconds.

Delightful owners, delicious and huge sandwiches! Super clean restrooms. The bread is very fresh and you can tell local made. The owners are very kind and love what they do. The sandwiches are huge, split a whole one or just get a half sandwich.

Not called Café Ohia anymore… I asked and they said it used to be but it’s now called Eagle Lighthouse Café(or something similar). Food was tasty. Hubby and I both had the breakfast bowl with fried rice(tasty!) and shared the cranberry mac nut bread pudding(delicious!!).

Great lunch spot. I had half a sandwich with chips and it was great. Husband had their daily special lunch plate(short ribs) and it was equally delicious. The service was super fast and everyone was very friendly.

Wer ate breakfast there. Our group had the breakfast croissant and egg with toast and rice. Both was kinda bland and not too interesting, and the croissant was really flabby.

Very good, local food. The Lau Lau pork was flavored with Butter Fish. Outdoor seating but a large covered area. Family owned and ran. Friendly place!

Loved this place. Only reason I don’t give 5 stars is for the seating. Nothing special just picnic benches outside, not very comfy by they are clean. The food was delicious. I got the tuna sandwich on Mac nut cranberry bread and a salad. The macaroni salad wasn’t great tho. It was a great location, close to the volcano national park. Try this place out

Soup, chili and bread fantastic for a chilly, rainy day, and they made us feel very welcome. Don’t expect fine china(the little plastic spoons are really not up to the job) or elegant ambiance as it’s an old Hawaii style kind of shack with picnic tables. And the bathrooms while clean were not(for the ladies at least) equipped with soap or towels. Good food? Check. Basic accommodations? Also check.

It’s a great little café with lots of outdoor seating. The serve breakfast from 7:00am — 11:00am. I got the chili bread bowl and it came with an extra cup of chili. Great place to stop and eat if you are on the way to see the volcano.

* Price: $ 10 for a huge gourmet sandwich. Not a bad deal! 3+ star. * Ambiance: small place. Very casual. Outdoor seatings. Plenty of parking. 3+ star. * Location: 15 minutes from the park. Located in volcano village, next to the only grocery market of the area. 4 star. * Meals: fresh and tasty. Good place to get your lunch packed before heading to the park. * Service: friendly, island style… so be patient! 4 star. This is averaged to 4 star for me. This place has been here forever… we always stop by here to get our sandwiches before heading to the park eveytime we visit the area. The sandwich is huge, fresh and very tasty with local vegetables and freshly baked macadamia nut bread. They also serve freshly brewed kona coffee, deserts, pastry, other lunch items like salad, quiche, etc. There is outdoor seating area where you can enjoy your food or just hang out while waiting for your food. The counter is very small. There are only 2 people working here to take orders and prepare food… so expect to wait for a little bit. They will bring to food to you all nicely packed! Would recommend this place to our friends and family! We definitely come back!

This was a nice surprise! Volcano village is a weird place, with a few people truly being local. Most people are just stopping along the way to Volcano National Park, so are not coming for breakfast. I actually stayed in Volcano Village for 5 days, and decided one random day to check this place out for breakfast. I’m glad I did! I got the breakfast plate which came with egg, sausage, and bacon. All over rice. I loved this combo! It was very satisfying. My friend got a fruit pastry that was absolutely delicious! Pricing is not as cheap as one would expect, but it’s not exorbitant either. They have a bunch of different snack items that are good to bring to the parks if you get hungry later on. I would check out this place to try a local Hawaiian joint. Very friendly service! Cute tables outside to sit at.

The Skinny: solid sandwich which was light on the protein and cheese but 1 sandwich is very large — good for sharing(3) service: it’s counter service(3) Value: given the limited dining options in this area, it fills your stomach and is relatively cheap compared to other joints(2.5) After meandering in the Kazumara caves all morning, we were famished. We had planned to get to the South point of the island later that afternoon and we really just wanted to find something to eat and go. Café Ohia fits this bill. A small family owned road side café, it has outdoor seating only. You go in and order your sandwich and it is made to order. We ordered a ham and cheese on mac-cranberry bread which was $ 8.50. The sandwich is twice the size of a regular sandwich so it’s not a bad deal. You can top it according to what you like — sprouts, pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, etc. The bread was good — the macadamia/cranberry bread had a nice flavor to it — a bit different from your regular sandwich offerings. The vegetables were good too. The proteins however were a little scarce. There was only a relatively thin layer of ham/cheese in the sandwich and it tasted like regular ham/cheese you would get at a conventional supermarket. It was okay — not great. Overall, it’s not a bad place to eat if you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg to grab a quick bite around this area. However, it’s nothing really outstanding. 3 starred review.
