Hop Highway 78

The Highway 78 corridor in San Diego’s North County runs from Escondido in the east to Oceanside and the Pacific Ocean in the west. It is a 20mile drive that is lovingly called the «Hop Highway». The Hop Highway is home to no less than 22 craft breweries, several wineries and even a meadery! There are also several more craft breweries in the works! Most all locations are located very close to the freeway itself. All have something special to pour for you, so check them out!

Here is the next burgeoning area for craft brewers in Southern California, and I LOVE it! There are wine trails in Temecula, many extremely wonderful craft brewers scattered all around San Diego County, and now on the far north end of SD county, a fantastic craft brew «trail» in Vista! There are SO many to choose from, you can make a weekend out of it.
I thoroughly enjoyed Aztec Brewery (read the backstory, it’s great), but be careful not to confuse them with the similarly named brewery at the beginning of the street. We also went to Barrel Harbor, Mother Earth, Belching Beaver and Iron Fist. Those are only a few of the many to explore. We will be back to check them all off our list. Happy tasting!
