Pita Kabob Mediterranean Gastropub

I took my family here for my birthday on Sunday and the loved it. The food is so good! My breath reeked of garlic when I left and I love it! Lol. The older man that is usually there, possibly the owner is the sweetest and very accommodating. The chicken shawarma fries, Mediterranean pizza, and wraps are my favorite.

My husband and I came to visit family and they brought us here. Let me just say that I loved this place! The food was delicious and the customer service was superb. We will definitely have to eat here again the next time we are in town.

Hey!!! Nephew and I were here for lunch today, and it was very, very good! I had the Lamb Kabob Combo, which meant two lamb skewers for me! hahaha! and a side of Feta fries! The fries were excellent with the Feta topping added to the wonderful crunch of the fries coating. The counter person was wonderfully kind, and very informative as to «why they had no Greek olives»,(sad face here). Nephew ordered the Traditional Falafel Pita, although Really Spicy, he said it was awesome with the Mango beer he tried. He thought it was great when the bartender gave him a taste of the beer before he ordered… something very unusual. and most welcome!!! The only thing that made me extremely uncomfortable was the crazy loud volume of music in the public facilities… BUT…we will return!!!

Go for the beer selection and the beer garden. The food isn’t bad either. I like this place!..

What a fun place to hang out and enjoy quality Mediterranean food. Good selection of beer on tap and pretty good selection of wines.

We recently moved to the area from the East Bay and once we found Pita Kabob all our worries about losing access to amazing craft beers went away. They host an outstanding tap list that changes regularly, pulling in hard to get brews from around CA and beyond.
The falafel at this downtown location is some of the best we’ve had. In addition to that we are big fans of the chicken schawarma and the spicy hummus. The staff is always friendly. The outdoor beer garden is a little hidden gem in this city. This is by far one of our favorite spots in Visalia.

Gilbert was our bartender and he was awesome! Honestly the best bartender I have had. He was knowledgeable, friendly, attentive and just a really nice guy. The food was delicious me and my boyfriend split the pita kabob plate with beef and chicken. Sides cilantro –jalapeño hummus and Greek feta fries. It was amazing! If you are in Visalia this is the place to be! They had 31 beers on tap, a great outdoor seating area. It is really a great time and experience all around. We will definitely be back

Pita Kabob’s delicious food was down-​right revolutionary for me when I first had it in 2013. I’d argue their first restaurant on Mooney still lives up to that high standard. However, now that they’re opening multiple locations around Visalia and implementing a hipster/​gastropub feel to all of them, their quality AND quantity has digressed by a small amount. STILL a fan, but it has lost that MUST-​HAVE, WOW factor.

Traditional Gyro ($ 7.50) — A classic pita wrap with lamb and beef supplemented with romaine lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, and special sauce. The protein is a tender blend of ground lamb and seasoned beef, slow-​roasted, then thinly sliced. It remains a solid order, but I was left wanting more. The gyros are smaller and lacked that flavorful punch it usually has at their flagship restaurant on Mooney.
Lamb Kabob Pita ($ 9.00) — This is exactly the same as above, only containing lamb. Love the tenderness and lack of gamey taste, but still fell short of my original expectations of this establishment.
Greek Feta Fries ($ 8.50) — While its a tad expensive for the small portion, it’s undeniably terrific and fried well.

Conclusion: Despite the fall-​off of flavor, I do LOVE the gastropub décor and feel. The anesthetics would rival any cool spot in L.A.; Just a shame that the food takes a hit with all these changes. Speaking of changes, one of them is an increase in prices which never sits well with me either.

I want to state up front that this place, in terms of the food, gets a SOLID 5 stars from me. I HIGHLY recommend this place if you are looking for some good kabobs, hummus and shawarma fries!!!
I will say that the reason for not rating a full 5 stars is based on their prices, which are REALLY high!!! If you are planning on getting a meal/​combo, with your choice of 2 skewers (beef, chicken lulu) and comes with 2 sides… its going to set you back $ 20. The food is really good, but seem very steep for a fast casual kind of place (think Chipotle and the like). I can go to another kabob place with full service and still pay less than I do here. Even a lunch order, with 1 skewer and with only 1 side (and drink) will cost $ 13.50
Another gripe, is that they offer Happy Hour from 3−6pm, I believe M-​F. During that Happy Hour you will get $ 2 off your appetizer purchase, as well as that amount off beer. The $ 2 off will come in handy if you want some of their tasty Shawarma Fries, they are normally $ 12.50. My gripe is not that they offer Happy Hour, but that if you order even just 9 minutes before the allotted 3pm time they will NOT honor the $ 2 off. I had dined in, placed my order and was shocked that it was not honored. I mean, the appetizer takes about 10 minutes or so before it was brought out, it just seems silly to not honor it that close to 3pm.
With those annoyances out of the way, the food is really really good. I have been here several times, and the food has never disappointed.
The first thing that won me over initially was the Cilantro-​Jalapeño hummus. I had visited their other location on Walnut, prior to coming here and had a chance to sample it. This is like the equivalent to guacamole, and dipping the pita bread in it is just plain yum. This can be spicy at times, guess it depends on who is making it. I really cant handle spicy things, but have always been able to eat this without regret. I have even stopped in here just to order some of this to-​go, you cant beat the creaminess and the taste of that cilantro.
The kabobs are SUPER good and although I am a steak/​beef lover, I actually prefer their chicken kabobs and I love the nice little char they have going on. The meat has always been incredibly moist and very flavorful without being overpowering. They serve the kabobs topped with grilled onions and tomatoes as a garnish, the grilled onions are a favorite with me.
Another must try are the Shawarma Fries that I mentioned earlier. These things are a meal in themselves!!! The fries are so crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They are topped with mozzarella cheese (and feta, although I leave that off mine) and your choice of meat… I always go with the beef. They then put a spicy orange sauce (make sure to have a glass of water handy), sour cream or something similar, tomatoes and pepperoncini’s. These are so ooey-​goeey and meaty and melt in your mouth.
The location is in downtown and not really hard to find, if you know what you are looking for. When I first came to this location, I thought it was some secret society. The building is red brick, and has 6ft fences all the way around. There was no sign, just a handle on the fence… I wasn’t even sure I was going in the right way. I am happy to report that they now have a small sign on the outside.
They have a lovely beer garden area, that you can tell they take great pride in even during the winter months when people are really using it. This area would be ideal to eat in during the spring or fall, the valley heat would make it unbearable during the summer. The area is covered though, to provide shade in the scorching heat, so that the only thing getting cooked is your meat-​not your skin. The inside dining is made up of tables and booths, although they are all wooden… no cushion for the tush.
The service has been ok, nothing bad. The man that I assume is manager/​owner is really friendly and walks around to ask if everyone is enjoying their meals and seems genuinely interested.
I will definitely return here to nosh on those tasty kabobs and bomb shawarma fries but I will skip the baklava, as it was too syrupy sweet on the bottom and had a refrigerated/​leftovers taste to it and lacked real flavor from the actual ingredients.

This is my favorite place to eat in downtown Visalia. Yes, I said it, FAVORITE, even taking the upscale restaurants into consideration, and the same of their game is CONSISTENT! The food, service, and atmosphere are ALWAYS great! The beer selection is amazing, and the staff is very knowledgeable, and able to point you in the right direction if you find yourself overwhelmed by the options. The shawarma fries are to die for!!! And the chicken, lulu, lamb, veggies, and cilantro jalapeño hummus are all absolutely delicious as well. It’s certainly not cheap, but I have no problem paying a little extra for quality, and consistency! So glad to have this gem downtown!

I now consider myself a fan of Pita Kabob. A colleague and I were trying to figure out what we wanted to eat for lunch and could not decide. So I whipped out my phone and started looking throughout the Unilocal app. For one reason or another I happened upon pita Kabob.
Being that we are not from Visalia we had a hard time locating this place because it was nestled away behind a wooden fence and next to a vacant building. We were about ready to give up when I saw a sign with handwritten text (in chalk) that looked like something a hipster restaurant would put up with their daily specials. It was next to an open fence door so we quickly pulled over to see what was up.
When we approached the fence we saw the pita kabob sign and knew we were in the right place. Upon walking in we were pleasantly surprised as this little hidden restaurant was excellently decorated and had a great ambience. It had a great relaxed ambience and the servers were super nice. The menus hung above the register and were computerized so you had to look up to see what you wanted but if you had any questions the servers were happy to help. I will say that because pita kabob is a mediterranean gastropub you should not go in seeking to find your standard mediterranean food because it will have a slight twist to it. I ordered a kabob wrap with a side of rice pilaf.
I did enjoy my food. My wrap with all the ingredients combined did have a nice flavor. I will not say it was the best I’ve had because I am not sure if the meat (i.e the kabob part of the wrap) could have stood on it’s own. But, when combined with the veggies, ranch etc… it was yummy. I also really liked the rice pilaf. It was a great fusion of chili and garlic flavor and really filled me up.
Before were were done with our meal the owners brother came out to talk to us and told us about himself and his experiences in the central valley and how pita kabob came into existence which was great. Upon leaving all the servers wished us a great day and we parted ways. I add this to say that from start to finish we had a pleasant experience.
I think that if you are in the area definitely try pita Kabob just make sure to keep your eyes peeled because the location is a little peculiar. If the weather allows it try dining in their beer gardens surrounded by foliage and unique décor. Finally make sure to get their rice pilaf but be sure to bring mints you won’t regret it!

Our first server was great though when our server switched to another and then it got busy it was hard to find them.
Our first server helped a lot in choosing and I got the shawarma fries and gastropub burger. Both were really good, those lulu patties have interesting seasoning. Would definitely come back if I’m in the area again.

Food. Fries. Fermentation. Shawarma fries are indeed epic app-​ness. Friend says: «this may just be the best appetizer I have ever had.» Server top-​notch: fast, friendly, and offered great advice on food selection. Given portions consider splitting a wrap or come ready to practice for the next season of Man vs Food. Score a seat outside proximate to a heat lamp to catch a game in colder months without all the noise and bad sports announcing. Beer selection is solid, though not as unique in spectrum as other gardens you may haunt. Great place for groups, given large picnic tables and bench seating.

This is one of our favorite places for lunch in Visalia. The food is awesome and the outside patio has a relaxing vibe. The sign in the men’s bathroom will definitely make you smile!

Easily the best place for beer in the Central Valley. Great rotation of good beer so there’s always good stuff coming in to try. This certainly keeps things interesting. Also, the Mediterranean food is likewise delicious – all the way down to the fries. Definitely a must-​visit stop whenever you’re in the south Valley.

Good food and very good service. Nice food menu with lots of cold beers on tap. Didn’t think it would be all that great but I guess I don’t know the area– lots of younger people, nice servers, and good food.
Overall I enjoyed my dinner here and would definitely come back.

Pita Kabob is a true Mediterranean gastro pub. Fun atmosphere and great outdoor patio space. Quality food that is carefully prepared. Also carry 31 micro brews which are continually updated and fun to experiment with.

Who doesn’t love a gastropub with its craft beers and high end food?
The atmosphere is upscale industrial featuring dark red brick walls, stainless steel walls and bar, and rich brown wood. The ceilings are high and painting black, contrasting with the open ductwork painted silver. A wall of glass windows separates the main part of the restaurant from an outdoor beer garden complete with long wooden tables and benches.
There was a bit of a wait, so my friend and I headed to the bar for a drink. There were 31 craft beers on tap, according to an old dark wood sign posted in the middle of one brick wall. I had never even heard of a Barleywine style beer, so I asked one of the bartenders if he could describe it for us. He took it one step further and poured each of us a couple of samples so we could taste them ourselves. They were good, but he asked me what type of beer I usually drink (IPAs) and then he strongly recommended I try the Lupulin River double IPA from Knee Deep. The beer was the perfect choice and his tip reflected how much we appreciated his help.
We were seated rather quickly and set in to peruse the menu which was contained many of the standard items you would expect from a Mediterranean restaurant, many of them with a little twist. We decided to split an order of Hummus and Fries, and each ordered the lentil soup and a pita wrap. The fries were fresh and hot and paired well with the hummus into which we dipped them. They arrived with the lentil soup which was creamy and quite tasty. I finished every last drop. I ordered the lamb kabob pita. The pita was very fresh, the lamb nicely seasoned, the lettuce, tomato, and onion, crisp and cold, and the sauce tangy.
We had a lovely and leisurely dinner with excellent food, atmosphere and service. My friend recently bought a classic old home in a quite neighborhood within walking distance of this lovely little gastropub. I think I’ll be finding many excuses to visit her and come back here.
