My wife and I planned on buying one of your Centex homes in Visalia, CA. We are 22 and 23 respectively and this would have been their first home. We put a $ 3000 deposit down and started the loan and purchase process. They chose their lot and house style and were approved for the loan. I lost my job and have decided to go back to school to get my teaching credentials. I will be done in December of 2015. Due to the change in my financial situation, we decided to back out of the home purchase. After much communication we were told that the deposit was not refundable. In the mean time thee home had not even started and Centex sold my home within one week of their cancellation for $ 2000 more than we had originally purchased it for. First American Title even questioned why we didn’t receive a good faith refund. The check was made out to Centex. $ 3000 may not seem like a lot of money to Centex but to two young adults that are just starting a life together $ 3000 is a lot of money. We would have definitely purchased another Centex home in a couple of years after I finished with my credentialing. This seems unfair and doesn’t seem to mirror your company motto of «Homeowner for Life».
