Worst experience… The chicken was not fully cooked. I ordered Cesar salad with chicken. The chicken smelled like burnt hair and some of the pieces were not cooked enough. My dog enjoyed the food because that’s were it ended up. I do not recommend this place to any one. I feel I just wasted my money for a nasty Cesar salad. I ordered for my son hot dog I truly believe that 711 hot dogs taste much better.

Not really much to say here that others haven’t said. This is a great little deli on Virginia Beach Blvd that offers great service and great food. This is definitely a Top 5 Deli in Virginia Beach!

Have to stop every time I am in VB. I get their sandwiches shipped to Charlotte. Best deli outside of New York and better than most in NY

Visited this place for the first time just recently, I wasn’t impressed. I had been hearing good things about this place so I thought I would give it a try. The food was mediocre at best. The burger wasn’t anything special and was priced at $ 16… For that price I would have expected something decent. It was dry, over cooked and tasteless. The fries were scolding hot so I had to wait for at least 10 minutes for them to even be touchable and even then, there was nothing special about the fries. The waitress I had acted like I shouldn’t «trouble her» with asking for an extra plate(because I couldn’t even reach my burger with the mound of fries on the top). Then I had to ask for a box, and then the check. Then instead of being offered any kind of dessert, I had to ask about them. Turns out they’re outrageously priced too. Starting at $ 10 for a slice of cake. And since I was already unimpressed with the burger I figured I better not risk it at that price. The one thing that I’m still dumbfounded about is that I had seen the waitress talking with the guests before me, and she seemed so sweet and helpful to them, boxed their food for them, listed the thousand different desserts they had and was attentive regarding their checking out needs, so I was excited to have her. But when I didn’t receive the same sort of service even after trying to mention a little bit of small talk and detail about my day, it was like talking to a brick wall. The only reason this is getting 2 stars is because it was laid back enough that when my 2 year old started throwing a tantrum, it wasn’t a big deal because the place was loud enough so no one really noticed. And they weren’t stingy with the bacon. But it’s likely I won’t be back.

Had the turkey sandwich. Nothing spectacular and the turkey was a little to dry for my liking.

It’s rare I write a review before I finish my entire plate– but this is definetly a hidden gem. I love Jewish food– and though I can find it so-so in many places, this restaurant was clearly the professional. I wish my stomach allowed me to eat more than 1 meal every few hours because I want to have EVERYTHING here. I got the cheese blintzes and cream soda– ofcourse both amazing. The Reubans looked incredible so I took one to go. Not to mention the desserts were incredible. It’s in a strip mall so I could see why you might drive by it and dismiss it but it’s really a great place I recommend.

Went here over 3 years ago but I was very happy with the amount of food. I went for St. Patrick’s day. The cornbeef and cabbage was loaded on my plate. price was good too. only reason I haven’t been back, its a long drive there.

Come hungry… And you will still need a doggy bag. Not the cheapest sandwich place but we usually split a sandwich and get fries.

I’m very impressed with this place! It doesn’t look like much, but the food is phenomenal and they are very serious when they say you won’t finish whatever you order. My husband had been begging me to go here because he loves Reuben sandwiches. I’m not much of a sandwich person, but he finally convinced me to go and I’m glad we did. His sandwich was gigantic, and even though he can eat a massive amount of food, my husband still only managed half of it. He said it was the best Reuben he had ever had. I had a burger and fries since I’m not much for sandwiches, and it was fantastic! It tasted like someone had just grilled it out on their grill in the backyard. Definitely unlike the frozen patty taste that a lot of burger places around here have. Our waitress(the receipt said her name was Riley) was so sweet and helpful! Since we had never been to Route 58 before, she explained everything about their menu and sandwiches and gave us plenty of time to look over everything without feeling rushed. Our drinks were never more than half empty. My husband has insisted that we go back soon, and let me tell you, it’s rare that he cares that much about a restaurant.

What can I say. Food — the best corned beef and pastrami since a trip to a NY deli! It was warm, freshly made, tender, juicy and so very flavorful. The rye bread is shipped in from NY and is awesome! They have all the Jewish favorites like latka(potato pancakes) were very good. The rugelach was sweet but not too sweet, light and airy. Service — our server was phenomenal. She knew we were first time visitors and so she brought us a taste of the corned beef and pastrami. That helped us make our menu selection. She was friendly attentive cheerful, clearly believed in the restaurant, it’s food and mission!!! Ambience — it was like we were in a ny deli. Go there!!!

Good stuff! I got the Super Ruben. I actually don’t like Rubens but since this was the most popular item here, I had to get it. The bread was great, the«French dressing» wasn’t like regular French dressing. Which was what I liked about it. It seemed like it was mayo based! I enjoyed it! The meat was stacked so high I l ended up having to pull out a fork and get it back down to mouth sized bites. I’m a beast. I demolished that sandwich no problem. I also ate almost all of the carrot cake I got with it as well. #SorryNotSorry. It was delicious! The carrot cake was good! You can tell its home made. Huge chunks of carrot and, was that pineapple in there? Yum. Lots of coconut too! The icing was a cream cheese that tastes like it was made from scratch as well. Would totally go back. I’d love to try something I’m more used to, like one of the ones with turkey and an onion bun or something. So many options to choose from!

It’s been a few years since I’ve been back to Route 58. I was with my mom and sister when we decided to return. We all craved a sandwich and what better place, right? 58 is conveniently located in a high traffic shopping center on the Blvd among plenty of other restaurants. It’s décor is pretty cool. You walk in and right there is the rotating cooler fridge hubby displaying all the different kinds of cakes and cheesecakes.(I think it’s to remind you to save room for dessert.) When you look around you’ll find many pictures hung up on the walls from places in NYC and Jersey. It’s kind of kitschy but in a clean and organized fashion. I enjoy looking at all that many pictures, dedications, and funny signage all around the restaurant. There’s booths and tables alike and along the booths are coat or purse hangers I always find useful and thoughtful! Now for the menu, you have to brace yourself and really study it! To match the cakes up from, their sandwiches are piled just as high! They definitely do no skimp on their meats! I totally love that! For this visit, we decided to try their Disco Fries and let me tell you, it has changed my life. I don’t think I will ever enjoy regular crinkle fries the same way ever again! Disco fries are crinkled fries served with brown gravy and melted provolone cheese. Much like poutine, but not really. Oh. My. God. I was in love instantly. So delicious! For my meal, I ordered the American Club with Munster cheese in white because for whatever reason they did away with sourdough(insert sad, sad face). It was HUGE. My sister orders the roast beef sandwich on their onion roll. It was served cold and aplenty! My mom ordered their Matzo ball soup and their signature Pastrami sandwich on rye. She was in heaven, raving how much it reminded her of NY and how grateful she was for the amount of meat on her plate. The only«bad» thing she had to say about her order was that she wished the meat was cut just a little bit thinner, «borderline shaved,» she said. Other than that we were l happy bunnies. None of us finished our plates and we each went home with exactly half of our orders to which we had for dinner. Before checking out we decided to take a carrot cake to go as well. It’s super moist, super flavorful, and super yummy. Everyone seems to be friendly and our waitress Ashley was very attentive and never let our drinks go less than halfway down the glass. A place like this that takes care of their customers and refuses to skimp on meat, it usually means there’s a nice price tag attached. I do have to point out he prices could be a little scary, but don’t let it scare you by any means. They offer boxes to pack your left overs in! With that said, I would suggest looking for Groupons as they always offer discounts and deals for a great price! Trust me, I’ve bought them myself! It’s worth it!

To be honest, I am ashamed of myself for not having yet written a review for Route 58 Deli! I have been numerous times over the years and have always left feeling beyond satisfied! Last night, my party of 8 went to Route 58 to celebrate some combined birthdays. We reserved the private room in the back and it worked out absolutely perfectly for our group! Route 58 is always ultra accommodating when it comes to keeping their customers happy and last night was no different. Our waitress was a lot of fun and she went by the name«Coach.» She was the type that tells you like it is and doesn’t take any shit! I wish that all servers were like her to be honest. A couple people in our party had never dined at Route 58 before, so Coach did an excellent job of guiding them in the right direction when it came to ordering. Also, Coach brought out a small plate of meats so they could sample them before making their decision. You don’t find that at most places. When the food came out, everyone’s mouth instantly began to water. Everything was absolutely delicious and the portions were on another level. Hell, the menu states, «If you leave hungry, we didn’t do our job.» That saying rings so true! There is no way that your average person can finish off a meal from Route 58. You’d have to be a professional eater in order to accomplish that feat. In fact, I am looking forward to enjoying the other half of my Rueben for lunch today! I highly recommend trying everything on the menu, you can’t go wrong with any of the selections. All in all, this place is phenomenal. If I could give them 10 stars, I totally would. I am looking forward to my next visit for sure!

This place is not kidding with the amount of food they give you. There’s a sign in the front saying«If you leave hungry, we’re not doing it right.» No kidding. We came here to eat with a friend and got a booth in the corner. The place has an old school diner kind of vibe to me. Our waitress was awesome and had patience on us making our minds on what to order. She must be used to it since the menu has so many options. I ended up settling on a BLT and the husband got the pastrami. We both ordered a side of fries. Hello food! It was food to last us probably 3 days. My BLT was stacked double and sliced in half. I could eat like ¼ of it and took the rest home. Husband thoroughly enjoyed the pastrami at the restaurant and again at home. We should have only ordered 1 set of fries, but newbie mistake. Our waitress kept my coffee refilled and was ready with to go boxes. If I was still hungry, I would have ordered the cheesecake people keep raving about. Another trip will have to do.

First I will say, the prices are a bit expensive, but like their motto says, «if you finish, we’ve made a mistake.» If you do actually finish a sandwich there, you’re my hero. The portions are large. LARGE! If there are two of you, you can probably split a sandy and still might not finish. So although you will pay a premium, you will more than likely have food for days. The wife and I ordered BLTs and it no kidding has a pound of bacon on the sandwich. Needless to say we of course did not finish either sandwich and barely made it through half. It literally hurt my jaw it was so big.(Check out the photo). Food is all quality and he desserts are no slouch either. You can get a half pound sandwich but why? Just get the big one and take it with you.

I just had the best lunch here! I just wanted something basic but boy did I get more than expected. Ok i’m no stranger though; i’ve been here before. The atmosphere leaves nothing to be desired. It’s so busy and colorful in there. What with the pictures and signs covering every inch of wall space. And the first thing that catches your eye when you walk in, the desset case; more on that in a bit though. It only took a minute or two to be seated. I got sweet tea as my beverage. It could’ve been sweeter but thank goodness for table sugar. I got two hot dogs, both with chili, cole slaw, and red onion sauce on them. It was heaven. Sweet but bittet at the same time, and that hint of picking spices too. I want it again. My friend got the bacon cheeseburger and it looked equally as good. Both of ours came with crinkle cut fries. I kept dipping mine in russian dressing they brought to the table. For dessert I got the chocolate’ tower cake, what? Talk about the perfect ending. Now since they can be pricey I only come here once in a blue moon. So I recommend the same thing. Unless you have that kind of money, them have at it. It’s definitely worth the price of admission. Warning: A workout at the gym will be in your best interest after visiting.

On the surface the food at Route 58 Delicatessen seems abundant but it really is deceiving. First of all it is expensive — one rueben, one order of potato pancakes and one cup of matzo ball soup and our bill was $ 35. When the reuben sandwich came out, it was mainly sauerkraut and not all that much corned beef. The corned beef was tender but really did not have good flavor. It looked and tasted«spongy» — it seemed to be of a very low quality. The broth for the matzo ball soup was flavorless — no chicken flavor at all and no carrots or celery. The actual matzo ball was no better tasting, like it was missing an ingredient like eggs. The potato pancakes were the best thing served but that is not saying much. They were thin and overcooked. The only saving point is that they were served with lots or sour cream and applesauce to «enhance» the flavor. The service was good and friendly just more care and quality needs to be in the actual food preparation.

I’ve read through the reviews so I really have nothing new and amazing to report — my first trip was here this week for(one of my) :-) birthday dinner dinners. My step-momma and I quickly realized there was no way we were ordering 3 entrees — and even the staff won’t tell you to do this — they acknowledge the food is in HUGEMONGABUNGA proportions and some places will look at you funny when you want to share — but not here — it’s encouraged! Our server was fantastic — awesome personality, quick service, patience, and she helped us decide on our meals and gave us a sample of pastrami and corned beef to try. Amazing. Really is melt-in-your-mouth good. We had the pastrami sandwich which we split between two of us — my daughter arrived late and we had decided on dessert by then. We ended up with 2 truffle cheesecakes and a tower chocolate cake. The desserts were awesome!!! Moist, fresh — just amazing. I don’t care if it is shipped in from Carnegie Deli in NYC or made fresh — you wouldn’t know the difference — it was awesome. I can skip the whole«made in house» issue when they ship freaking fantastic food in. This joint is great for — out of town folks who appreciate a good beer and a sandwich(hmm, do they serve beer? I didn’t even notice… crap!) — make sure to eat light before you go in here — even if you just stop here for dessert and skip the sandwich — it’s awesome. We will be back. Thanks for great service, great food and a lovely birthday dinner.

Every time I go to Route 58 I spend at least five minutes staring at their cheesecakes. You don’t want to order it before you meal and if you get through half your big ass sandwich you certainly don’t have enough room for even a single bite. For me, it’s always next time… Until today. I didn’t actually dine there but somehow, a cheesecake magically appeared at the office. I was ecstatic. It was orgasmic. Everything I want in a cheesecake was in every single bite. It was a glorious encounter. No other cheesecake can compare. I should mention that one slice is a meal in itself. Don’t share a piece with anyone. Skip the sandwich and get a cheesecake just for yourself.
