Have eaten here a dozen or so times over the past couple years, sometimes even for dinner — there are 3 – 5 really good things on the menu if you know what to order. Tableside guac is one. Lately tend to go for a mid afternoon lunch on Saturdays, and the past two visits were bad enough to give ‘em a 2(more like a 1+) on Unilocal.Don’t go there expecting a real bartender to make you a margarita on a Saturday, they don’t start until 5pm. OK? The wait staff seems listless and inattentive on Saturday afternoons, which is not my experience with the dinnertime staff. This was not my experience prior to my last 3 or 4 visits, so this place is definitely heading south and seemingly fast. Summertime lethargy? Very unlikely to return unless improvements are made, and they need to come from management(are you reading?). Very disappointed.

I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee plaza Azteca! Particularly this location! However, today was my first difference… basically due to the waitress chick… so we ordered our Normal seafood chimichanga… which had no shrimp and all imitation crab=no Bueno! So we nicely asked for the manager. Whom was Extremely nice and accommodating and corrected the entrée ;) Lastly, the waitress chick just had an attitude of she really didn’t want to work! Bummer! Angry face when I asked for water refill and chips refill! I Completely understand everyone has«off» days! Yet it left a bad taste in mi mouth:( Again gracias to the manager again for the Correct &Yummy Chimichanga !

My sister and I have always wanted to go to this location because of its exterior. Plaza Azteca is one of my go-to places for Mexican food, so I went to check this location with my sister and my boyfriend. The restaurant is about the same as any other location. I didn’t really like my food, but that’s really just a flavor preference. The food was actually good; I just didn’t like my choice of meal. The guacamole was as great as ever. I like this location as much as any other. I probably won’t come here too often just because of it’s location. I would rather go to a Plaza Azteca that’s more conveniently located, but it was still great.

Horrible experience. I ordered the tacos that had the pork inside. First bite I was wondering what I was eating that was chewy(fat maybe) it was so chewy I had to spit it out and found that I was chewing completely raw pork. The rest of the taco also had raw meat in it. No manager came over to apologize. The server did let me know he asked the chefs to make sure the meat was cooked before they put it into the tacos… Didn’t know that needed to be said but glad he at least reiterated to the«chefs». Glad I realized on first bite or I could have been very sick.

Honestly, Just go to Taco Bell Instead. I recently had the unwanted pleasure of eating at this restaurant just the other day. Being skeptical of a past so-so experience at another local Plaza Azteca. I decided to try it again and see if it was just a fluke. Needless to say it was more like a FLOP. The whole experience was terrible. The staff is very rude and not attentive to the needs of the customers just down right awful service. The food hardly tastes anything at all like real authentic Mexican food. I really wanted to so badly get up and head down to the Taco Bell just down the road for some Mexican food I know is good. A Taco Bell should be where any Mexican eatery sets the bar and exceeds it, not drop below the standard of good Mexican food. I just so happened to have a friend of mine along for dinner and I stated I knew or thought I knew of a nice local Mexican place right in Hilltop that serves good food. But after the meal was over she exclaimed that it wasn’t good and that she’d just prefer the free salsa and white cheese dip w/chip they give you. And then I agreed and explained my past mediocre experience at a different Azteca location much to the same experience as this past visit. **Overall. The entire local Plaza Azteca’s are just like AJ Gators. They are ALL suck and there isn’t much else you can compare them to when a Taco Bell can do it better. Such a Shame!

Food is always good. Service is friendly and I’ve never had to wait long on an order. Prices are pretty good too! Oh and I love their margaritas.

Been there a few times and it was ok but always questionable whether we would return. Today however, it was very clear that we would no longer eat at plaza. The food was bland, the queso dip was missing something and the overall service was subpar. I will not be returning. For the kind of food we ordered and how it tasted, it was definitely overpriced.

This is a generic Mexican restaurant. I got the fajitas and they were earth shattering, but they were delicious. The Beerita is great and the chips and salsa were fine. I am sure I will be back but I wasn’t super wow-ed.

Plaza Azteca is a consistent winner for great Mexi-food. It’s the go-to spot just about every time we want Mexican.

I ordered the Veracruz fajitas at thus restaurant. The beer was good but go somewhere else for shrimp. The order was $ 17 for 5 whole shrimp. Wooptydoo. The manager assured me that this is the norm. Skip it, skip it on this place. The value simply isn’t there.

My brother, his girlfriend, and I came here the other day. This place was packed at 6:30 on a Wednesday, but I’m not surprised because people love coming here after work for their margarita. Quads across the street is never this busy. We got inside and surprisingly no wait! We sat at a booth near the back left of the restaurant. We got the regular chips, salsa, and white sauce and killed it before our drinks came, but that was our doing. Our server was very nice and was patient with us, because we all literally read the whole menu, back to front and upside down. My brother got the combo with a hard taco, quesadilla, and tostada. His girlfriend got one of those Mex burritos, and I got an al la carte chilli relleno, beans, and rice. Our food came out super quick. My food was good to my liking. I pretty much ate the beans and rice and was full and then brought the rest home. One of the reasons I prefer to come here other than other Mexican places is because they don’t put gross frozen veggies in the rice. If you know me I hate unprocessed whole kernel corn. So this made me feel safe haha. My brothers girlfriend loved her burrito but it was too big, so she packed that up too. My brother ate everything but the toastada. If you were to ever order a toastada from Taco Bell, that’s exactly what it looked like but completely soggy. He refused to eat it. It’s probably from nuking the food in the microwave or something. All in all, we were satisfied; especially since we had munchies.

Average Mexican Restaurant, if you’re trying to get a fix for Mexican food, this may do. The presentation has improved and gotten slightly more gourmet, but the flavor of the food is okay. The guacamole is different every time. Sometimes it’s great, other times it’s too salty! For the quality and the moderately expensive dishes, there’s definitely better places.

Ok let’s do another review. The Plaza Azteca I must say was very good. The meal prices were great and the food was to match. I was a bit surprised that there were no rice and beans but I was not disappointed. I had the chicken quesadilla, beef enchallada and chille relleano which got me full. If you are in town come through the have several locations in Virginia Beach.

You know how you do certain things in life and then immediately regret it? This is how I feel about this place. I came. I saw a ton of disappointment. And then I went, but it took forever to leave because the bill we had to pay took 35 minutes to arrive. The service was awful, I hate saying that, I really do because I know how it feels to be in the industry and have shitty days, but yesterday I just felt like every server there hated life and conspired together to be a bunch of Debbies. It was depressing. The walls were falling apart, it wasn’t very clean which was odd because it wasn’t even busy, so its not like there wasn’t time to get side duties done. Anyway, the food was just meh. My margarita took 20 minutes to arrive and then I felt like shit for the rest of the day. It also took almost 2 hours to get out of there. I don’t have time for this. So that’s what happened at Plaza Azteca yesterday. I probably wont go again.

My family and I were at the beach and decided to go here since it’s rather close to the oceanfront. We were in a party of 11 and were accommodated for pretty quickly especially since it was Mother’s Day. The food was great. The only thing that was really unsatisfactory was their service. With the amount of people that were working there I was surprised. We ordered guacamole and that never came and on top of that — we were charged for it. So word of advice would be to make sure to review the check before paying! Also they could definitely be a little more friendly. We went there for Mother’s Day and all the women in our party got a free slice of tres leches — it was very delicious. They also brought me some ice cream for my birthday. I loved the way they brought it out and sang for me!!!

Enjoyed my visit here. We were seated near the back of the restaurant where it was quieter, which was nice. The service was quick and efficient. The portions are huge, and everything tasted great. With the leftovers from my burritos, I got two more meals at home.

I love the guac. Good happy hour prices on drinks… and ladies night prices and specials rock. The burritos are tasty as are the fajitas. Overall a good place to eat for a chain. Good service. Good prices. Good good.

This used to be our ONLY, FAVORITE, GO-TO for Mexican food. After last night, we will not be back. In short, bad service, bad drinks but good food. The hassle of waiting 15 minutes for drinks and then another 20 minutes to eat… I could’ve made a meal at home in less time. Very disappointing. This restaurant has made some changes(menu and otherwise) that I wish they hadn’t. The food isn’t good enough to overlook the horrible service we had.

This is another one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Hampton Roads. I haven’t really ventured to any of their other locations since they are further away. From the outside, you can definitely tell this is a Mexican restaurant, with all the lights, palm trees, etc. out front. Once you go in, the place definitely has the Mexican feel with different displays, etc. I went in yesterday before the evening rush, so seating was immediate. I also have a free advantage card, so if you have one, you can also get a free cheese dip with a $ 25 purchase, which isn’t too hard when there’s at least two in the party at dinner. The free chips and salsa are always good, and last night, the red sauce had quite a kick to it, which is good for me since I do like things spicy. The cheese dip is also good as always, and can always save some of it to put on fajitas and other entrees too. I had the burritos fajita on this visit. The food came out very quickly, and as always, the food was cooked to perfection. The chicken was nice and tender, and was not overcooked. In the past, I have also had the chicken fajitas, which has also been just as good. Overall, I would recommend coming to this location. Both food and service were good.

This one tends to be less crowded than the one on holland so sometimes I Iike to switch it up and come here even though the other is closer to my house. I LOVE the table-side guacamole here. I guess not all places do this(I assumed most did) because when I brought my friend from out of town here for dinner she loved the guacamole and said she’d never seen anything like it. They’ll wheel their cart of freshly cut ingredients(tomato, onion, jalapeños and cilantro) and ask how you want it — spicy or no — and then they’ll cut up fresh avocados in front of you — add in your ingredients and then cut a lime and squeeze it there right in front of you and mix it up. It’s fabulous and so fresh and yummy! It’s about $ 8 for this appetizer but I love it and I don’t feel too guilty about it later(despite the fact that I eat 50 chips with it). This time I got the Burrito San Jose — YUM — which is a huge burrito stuffed with beans, rice, chicken, and chorizo. On top is queso cheese and chopped tomatoes with cilantro. This is soooo good. It is gigantic though — I’ve never been able to eat the entire thing — even still I think it’s $ 9.99 so it’s not priced too terribly. I also love their fajitas for two — where you get a huge sizzling platter with shrimp, chicken, steak, pork and onions and peppers. It comes with two plates(for two) with rice, sour cream, lettuce and tomato. Good stuff. Their sweet tea is also good for a southern girl like me. I’m a big fan! Mmmmm!
