My kids dubbed this small park across from Westminster Canterbury the«Purple Park» With it’s unusual slide color in purple… don’t ask me why, this has been a place that we cannot hardly drive by without a short visit. Almost no amenities like restrooms, or a drinking fountains are provided here. However, what it does offer is a small playground with swings and large shelter. As well a full court basketball court to the very rear of the property. There is a gravel parking lot right off of Shore Dr. that is appropriate in size for area. This enclave of tall pines, yards from buzzing Shore Dr traffic is actually very serene. When walking on the playground the pine needles feel as soft as the pillow you rest your head on at night. This is a nice place to bring a lunch, pull over and enjoy some peace and quiet on one of the picnic tables. There are several trash cans, so remember to throw away your trash. I believe every VB city park now offers a bag to pick up after your dog and this location is no different. If you have small children between the age of 1 and 8 this would be age appropriate to the play equipment. However, with hoops and a shelter anyone could find a reason to visit Lynnhaven Colony. You have probably driven by this park, but thought nothing of it. Once you get off the road and into the park it’s a nice quiet retreat to enjoy a little tranquility in your day.
