A great beachside bar and restaurant. We began with a flight of beers. Including a hard root beer It was great. A saison an amber and Aligash white. We then had the cheese curds which was a massive appetizer. Then the farmhouse with bacon and a runny egg. Man. It was good. Fantastic service by CJ. He was informative about the beer and appetizer selection and he was attentive.

The two stars are solely based on the nice outdoor seating area and scenery and what appeared to be a pretty good beer selection. Unfortunately, I walked away without dining there due to a total lack of service. I walked up around 5pm on a Monday night wanting a nice beer and burger after a long road trip down for a business meeting. The hostess said that I could sit wherever i wanted since there weren’t many customers. I sat for about 15 min with no one even coming over to take my drink order, so I decided to find another place. I told the hostess as much as I left and was met with an indifferent«ok». I’d hate to see what the service was like when it was crowded.

I wish I could give this place a better review, but I unfortunately cannot. Met up with a group of friends here for dinner on a Thursday night in the off season. Had about the crowd you’d expect at that time of year. Some locals, conference goers, that sort of thing. Not quite half way full. Made our way to the bar to await the arrival of the rest of our party. It was here that I first noticed the problem: the prices. Sure, they have a decent sized beer list, but it doesn’t show a lot of creative variety or offer anything very adventurous. Normally this isn’t a huge deal, but it’s a deal breaker for a place that advertises itself as a premier beer bar. And everything was a couple dollars more than you’d expect for Virginia Beach. I just can’t get over paying $ 7 for a $ 4 or $ 5 beer. The next big ding was the service. We had a moderately sized group, nothing too big but hard to forget of you’re a server. Unfortunately, we seemed to be forgotten about. Food seemed okay, but not much to write home about. Pretty heavy on the fried stuff. Mixed drinks were apparently quite watery, according to fellow diners who had them, including the Orange Crush. And the menus were especially annoying. Huge glossy pieces, and you needed three of them to get the food, beer, and wine. Again, a minor annoyance in and of itself, but a part of a bigger picture that sets the tone for the meal. This just made me feel like I was at a Chili’s or Ruby Tuesday’s, not a craft beer gastropub. There are a lot better places to get a drink and dinner in the area, especially now that the Beach seems to be having a food renaissance. LagerHeads needs to step up their game, as their execution may have worked a decade ago, but it won’t keep working for much longer.

Too expensive, but that’s kind of expected. Server kept wandering off. After we received our food, waited 10 minutes before she came by just so I may ask for BBQ sauce for the burger. By then the lettuce and tomato soaked the bun, the meat was cold. The fries came out cold. The only thing that saved this from a lower review w is flavor. Great flavor! The fried pickles were really good, the went well with«Not your father’s root beer».

Staying across the street at OBC and don’t know why we waited a week before this visit. I had the cowboy burger with sweet potato fries. Both were great and a full meal. My wife had the ½ lb of steamed shrimp with drawn butter. That is served as an appetizer but shrimp is large and was a meal. I tried the beer flight. 4 serving of 4 oz beers. Very nice. Would be back soon but heading north tomorrow. I’ll see you next trip. BTW: Jeremy, our waiter, was very attentive and was able to explain the menu items. Good job!

Really good burgers! My favs are the portabella burger & the hangover burger with sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries are thick cut and the exact combination of sweet and salty. Delicious mojitos such as the lavender mojito & the apple ginger mojito. Huge beer menu. Live acoustic music nightly during the season around firepits, ocean view :)

I don’t know if there are any parking spots here at all, but if you’re already here it’s probably because you’re on the beach and you’ve made peace with the lack of parking for beachfront access if you’re not staying at a hotel there. The outdoor seating is minimal and the bushes, trees, and décor really block the view of the beach quite a bit. I ended up sitting inside realizing the view wouldn’t be much worse and it was cold. Unfortunately, they have a huge garage style door in the bar area to the patio so I had to put my jacket on mid-meal to help me eat through my cold fries. When the temps are below 65, please for the love of Pete, shut the door. I assume the revolving entrance door is designed for this reason as well. Bathrooms are nice and modern… and they have free tampon machines! I noticed it because there was one sitting there someone had dispensed. As someone who lobbied her middle school principal to adequately stock the tampon machines, I would like to thank the Manager on behalf of menstruating women ever. There were a few clean tables, but for some reason I had to wait 6 minutes for a bus boy to find time to clean one in particular even though I was fine sitting at one of the other low tables with beach view. The restaurant is pretty small inside, but the drink and food menus are large… but that’s mostly just in size when it comes to food. I was looking forward to lots of seafood options and I pretty much only had the option of a shrimp salad or crab cakes. I went for the latter, and it was tasty. Sweet potato fries were a let down, though. I also managed to forget any form of payment in my car, but the waitress was super nice while I speed walked there and back to get it. Service was above average, for sure. One star gets deducted for temperature + cold fries, and while I can’t put a finger on why I am dropping a second star, it just doesn’t quite feel like a four-star-on-Yelp-worthy restaurant.

Another great location — bigger brother to Tortuga next door. Food is fairly good and doesn’t get as crowded since larger. During summer there is normally music being played from small gazebo at the beach entrance. A recommendation for them — we stopped in during the summer and were lucky enough there was a party getting ready to leave so she said it would only be 5 – 10 minutes for an outside table. While we were waiting, we noticed there were also a good number of empty tables inside. As others started coming up, the hostess would tell them the wait was probably 20 minutes and they would walk away. Finally a couple walked up, she told them it would be 20 minutes and they started to walk away… I spoke up and said aren’t there tables inside. The hostess replied… oh yea but there is an inside hostess they would have to ask her… ummm … your turning away business because #1 you can’t coordinate inside and outside hostesses and #2 you can’t refer customers to the inside hostess if you don’t have tables outside. Either bad system or a hostess that didn’t care… but I thought I would point it out if someone from the restaurant sees this.

Well this place got 5 stars due to the food and bad things that they made right. It started with the hostess giving our seats to someone who came in after us and after the 2 guys that came in before us. They seemed a little scattered brained but when we said we were going to leave they found a seat for us — a big table but we were seated right away. We ordered the pretzels and 2 sauces as an appetizer. The sauces were really good and pretzels tasted like they were made fresh. My husband ordered the hangover burger as well as the 4 horsemen flight of beers. The beers were all dark and he enjoyed the all but his favorite was the legend. Burger and egg were cooked perfectly. I ordered the ipa chicken sandwich. It was so good as well as the sweet potato fries. The fries were so good didn’t need salt or anything. Then we decided on dessert. We ordered dessert the red velvet cupcakes. They were either stale and served warm or made at the time we ordered but overcooked. But they were inedible. Our waiter Jon did take them off our bill. So all the wrongs were made right.

Great location. Love how there is music at the gazebo. Great view of the water. Good burgers but a bit pricy for what you get… then again, you are paying for the view. Good beer selection.

Beers were great! They were out of three that we initially wanted by were on the menu so that was a bummer. No wait for inside or outside on a Wednesday around 12:30pm. Servers were attentive it started raining outside so we sat at the bar for drinks. Their burgers looked delicious and are cooked to order in the main area of the restaurant. Ocean is right in front of you if sitting outside. Beautiful umbrellas and a nice breeze. This place is a part of the Hilton gardens but open to the public as well. Very clean and booths are spacious! Great place if looking for a quick place to eat! Kind of pricey for the portions, beers start at $ 7 and burgers at around $ 13. Various Appetizers to select from.

This was a really nice place, great beer selection and really fun to try local beers. It’s pretty pricey. Our burgers were pretty good. I got the hangover burger and my wife got the bacon burger with no bun. The sweet potato fries were perfect and served in little baskets that looked like fryer baskets– nice attention to detail. We were there on a Thursday and that must be when the air force does some sort of training because every 10 minutes a F18 jets flew over and you couldn’t hear yourself think. So noise level? Jet engine loud — but overall great food, nice location and great beer selection

GREAT fried burgers. We had the surf and turf burger(lobster), Crab Benedict burger, and Beef Brisket Bruger; all scrumptious and filled with deliciousness. Kale Salad was OK. Waitresses were pretty hot, and were very helpful. We were lucky and got a table outside on a smashing summer August evening. Great outside atmosphere just loved it.

If is just based on the beer selection I would give them a 5 stars however the food was kind of meh. I guess typical bar food vs. hotel restaurant food. I got a local brew and I was very impressed with the taste and quality. I would definitely go back to have a few cold ones, or maybe just go beer sampling. The scenery and sitting is cool, right next to the boardwalk and outside it has heater lamps in case is cold.

You just got to your hotel on Virginia Beach and you’re ready to start drinking! Look up how to get to Lager Heads. This was Justin and my first stop during our Virginia Beach stay-va-cation. I call it that since we were suppose to vacation, but we got iced-in, to our hotel. Our options were limited. Conveniently, Lager Heads was literally across from our Ocean Beach Club hotel. We stumbled upon it just looking around. This is a huge space with lots of seating. In the couple of times we were there it was pretty busy, but not so much that you couldn’t get a seat. This was one of the few options during the ice though. They had lots of TVs everywhere showing sports, so I bet this gets busy during sports games. I didn’t try the food, but we did try drinks! The crushes($ 6 – 8) were awesome! My favorite was the Orange Vanilla Crush. It tastes like a dreamsicle. Yummmm. But all of them were pretty good, even the Cherry Limeade crush. Their food looked pretty good though and I could see this place being awesome in the summer with their patio seating ONTHEBEACH: D Our servers were all awesome and helpful with great recommendations too.

Walking in I was really impressed as it’s got a great view and just great look. Then we ordered brunch annnnnndddddd… when it came out we ordered the chicken on the Caesar salad and first it was not fresh for am extra $ 7, and it was super cold, what the… grilled chicken should probably be warm off the grill? The side of coleslaw tasted old and had to swap it for sweet potato fries, the moment it hit my tongue it was back out… yuck. Sean or server was awesome! Very knowledgeable and totally accommodating through all of this! :) So that was really nice of him. Bloody Maria was amazing, what a great taste, ended up getting 2! The hangover burger had tons of bacon and can you ever have too much bacon, no… no you can’t. So if you go don’t the chicken added or the coleslaw and get the bloody maria and hangover burger.

Fabulous for date night;) Cool spot with great ocean front view, cool interior, friendly staffs, good local beer selections, and tasty food. Can’t believe I didn’t know this place last summer… Beer flight is not a good deal. 4 kinds for $ 8. Most pints are $ 6. Their onion rings are so cheap and tasty. Maybe they sprinkle BBQ spice and brown sugar?! Massive but $ 6.99. Lobster Mac and cheese is about $ 26. Burgers look good too.

Lager Heads is a new, fun place at the brand new Hilton Garden Inn next to Ocean Beach Club. Very popular, we waited 30 minutes to get a prime table out on the patio. The inside dining room was practically empty, but anything on the patio is going to be a wait when the weather is nice. Think round couches with fire pits, tables with a view of the ocean, those flaming tower heaters that are trendy now, lots of palms and other greenery to give the illusion of privacy. They have a wonderful beer flight sampler, with four different beers(4 oz each) for $ 8. I thought that was very reasonable, and it gave us a chance to try some new ones. We chose The Four Horsemen(dark beers) and it came with a pumpkin ale, an Irish stout, a delicious porter, and something called Sweet Baby Jesus that was a mix of chocolate and peanut butter in a beer. Delicious, and I’m not a big beer drinker. I snagged us a very comfy couch with a fire pit to keep us warm and a terrific view of the full moon on the ocean. Wow, it doesn’t get much better than that. We started with the warm, soft pretzels that come with queso and mustard dipping sauces. The main course was a Jack Daniel’s BBQ burger with pulled pork. Everything was yummy and you could tell it was good quality beef. Everything was also pretty expensive, which I suppose is par for the course at the beachfront. Why four stars? Because when we first arrived, the only available table was at the entrance to the outdoor dining area with no view and no ambiance. We chose to wait for a better table. When our name was finally called, guess what — they tried to give us the table right next to our original reject. Um.no. I waited 30 minutes, i want a better view and more comfortable seating! Luckily, the best seat in the house opened up and I asked if we could sit there instead. They said sure, but apparently didn’t get the reason I originally said I’d wait for a better table. Other reasons: a forgotten drink here, some slow service there. All adds up to minus one star.

Popped in with my colleague for a late dinner as we were in the hotel up the beach from here. I managed to get us a high top with a view of the beach and the fire tables, which was terrific. Our very pretty and waitress did a good job of taking care of us. I had two completely new-to-me beers that were both locally brewed. Rather tasty. And then we ordered a plate of calamari to share. Extremely hot, not too much batter, not too rubbery. It was good. Next time, nachos I think. For the main, I chose a Swiss and mushroom burger. Extremely juicy, very wet, very drippy. But tasty. My colleague chose one with bacon. He said it was the best burger he’d every had. Well, mine was good, but I wouldn’t say that it was THAT good. Five stars for a really good burger, a really good beer selection and especially for being a great restaurant and not just a tourist trap on the beach. If I’m here again with a colleague, I’ll bring ‘em to Lager Heads.
