I came to salon g after purchasing a groupon and have been back twice since. After a successful trial run, I cane back for Devyn to do my hair for my wedding. I brought a friend and had her do my makeup too. She took her time and made sure that hair and makeup were everything I was looking for. She was awesome! My friend came with and had her hair done too in a fancy braided up doo and it looked beautiful!
I went back after the wedding and had a different stylist who was also great! I was chopping off my long hair for donation so it was a big deal and she really took her time to make sure my dramatic cut ended up just perfect. If I lived closer this would be my regular place. I will definitely always make the drive for bigger cuts and styles. Love it here!

I have been seeing Josie for years. She does it all: cut, color and styling. Always happy with the results.

I’ve never gotten my hair cut from any salon that wasn’t in Chicago, but I recently moved to the suburbs, and didn’t want to drive far to a salon. I chose to get my hair done here because I bought a Groupon, and have never gone to a salon in Vernon Hills, so I figured I’d start here.
I’m not going to lie, I checked out the Unilocal reviews before booking my appointment, and when the receptionist told me I was going to have Char as my first stylist, I was nervous, because she doesn’t have consistent review scores on here.
Regardless, I kept my appointment, and crossed my fingers.
I was nervous over nothing! CHAR WAS EXCELLENT!!!
She gave me a legitimate hair consultation (not just those 30 second chats, while I’m in my chair, as she brushes my hair). Char actually sat with me at the waiting area, and then we discussed about what I wanted and did NOT want (which is extremely important to mention to any stylist) done to my hair. She payed so much attention to the little details I was telling her about, which most stylist ignore.
My hair turned out better than I expected.
My hair looked great when I left the salon, and even after I washed and dried it myself at home.
I’m really picky when it comes to my hair, and I’m not afraid to give 1 star, but Char and Salon G really deserve 5 stars. Highly, highly recommend it!

What a day, after reading reviews I purchased a groupon for a haircut and condition treatment. Mistake! Char was nice and all but that was it! Not only did I end up with 4 «off my hair, it was an uneven mess. I requested 2 ½−3» off in angled bob, not a tremendously difficult cut but definitely a technique most stylist find easy. when she continued to cut straight across, over and over again thinking it would be angled I knew I was in trouble. Anyhow, before I left it was an awkward silence, no «let us give you back your money or credit your groupon» ! A women apologized who didnt even touch my hair??? Made me think this wasn’t the first time a haircut there went terrible bad.

I’m still a fan after two appointments. Josie, the owner, is very personable and warm without being oversoliticous… I appreciate that in her, as well as her professionalism. She inquired about my first haircut and what I liked/​did not like about it, then consulted with me before cutting my hair during my second visit. Kudos for that!
The salon is clean, well organized with very friendly staff. Easy to find location with plenty of parking.
The pricing is very, very realistic. meaning reasonable and affordable… no gouging! :-)

Char did an excellent job with my hair. Very friendly and nice people.

I came here for a haircut because of a Groupon. I also added an eyebrow wax because they were getting a little unruly and it would save me a trip to the eyebrow place. So my stylist was very nice and spent time talking to me about the cut and style I wanted. The cut itself was fine. I wanted a trim and that’s what I got. I think if we left it at that, this would have been a 4 – 5 star experience. HOWEVER, the brow wax would be 0 stars! It wasn’t very painful, which was good. But it was completely uneven! I asked for a slight arch, and there was none. Half my right brow is MISSING. It looks like I decided to shave one side of my brow off! I had to go out to buy a brow pencil to fill it in before a dinner party that evening! I was horrified!
Moral of the story — salon is perfectly fine for haircut and styles, but don’t let them do your brows!

I went to Salon G because of a groupon I had purchased. I had been coloring my own hair for years and not always doing the best job. I was going to a wedding and decided to have my hair cut and highlighted, but knew the color would probably have to be fixed before it could be highlighted. Josie spent 3 ½ hours with me and did a fantastic job. I love my hair! I usually go to different people most of the time because I can’t find someone who understands what I want, but Josie spent the time with me and got it exactly right. Thanks Josie — Marianne

I went to this salon for the first time and I was appauled at the service or lack of that I recieved. I had a deal from livingsocial for a manicure &pedicure. I paid well money for it. When I arrived at the salon, the front desk girl tells me she has to leave at a certain time so she can only do either my manicure or pedicure and I would have to reschedule for the other. I drove 40 minutes there. I chose to do the pedicure anyway since I had already paid for it ahead of time. The girl rushed my pedicure, barely let my feet soak in the water and was completely unprofessional! She chit chated with me which is fine but she made comments about how she doesnt like when people dont tip her enough or they «tip her like a jew». I could not believe she thought this was appropriate to say to a customer! This was the worst salon I have ever been to! they have no customer service or professionalism!

I had the Brazilian Keratin treatment (Coppola) here a few months ago and my hair is still frizz free! I also had a haircut and style, so with the coupon from Unilocal,it added up to about $ 245. Great deal compared to a lot of the salons around here.
Also, the salon is very cozy and friendly, and they gave me nice size sample bottles of stuff when I left. Definitely plan on going back for haircuts when I move closer.
