Good selection of ice cream overall, but the experience was ruined by a rude server. It should be noted that a cup with a cone on top is 15 cents extra. The server failed to wash the scoop between servings… cherry cordial shouldn’t taste like mint. The sugar cones also seemed quite stale and cracked easily. Finally there is a $ 7CC minimum. Head to the soda shop or dairy dock instead.

Ice cream is average. The food is even worse. Ordered some chicken here once and it looked like the cook kicked it around in the parking lot before sending it out to me. Pathetic

We came here about an hour before they closed and the lady working seemed very inconvenienced. Wasn’t pleasant at all

Family went for ice cream and the service was bad. The waitress has a huge attitude and is one of those people who you don’t want to be around. Go to Simple Pleasures or somewhere else on 6 for food and get your ice cream to go!

Okay I have 2 opinons for Granny Joes. FIRST: THEICECREAMISSOGOOD. Like really, it is great. Plus the workers were champs and let me literally sample every flavor before deciding. There were too many good choices, but that is a great problem to have. SECOND: The food is a rip off. I literally feel like the 2 times I have eaten there. the amount I got for the price I paid was real bad. I got a soup and literally it was a teacup. COMEFORTHEICECREAM but eat elsewhere

We came in for breakfast with a large group of 11 on our first morning of vacation in Vermillion, OH. We were seated outside under a nice umbrella which kept the sun away from most of the seats. There is actually a table under the awning of the patio which would have been perfect if it wasn’t taken. My seat was actually quite sunny and i was burning up. Food was average nothing spectacular. We ordered eggs, bacon, pancakes, etc. and nothing really stood out as being great, but nothing was terrible either. Coffee was fairly weak and they definitely lose points for not having Ice Coffee(everywhere that serves breakfast should have Ice Coffee in this day and age). Finally, for my first introduction to Ohio service, I found the waitress to have about as much personality as a soggy piece of toast. I should mention that they do have ice cream here and we will probably go back and give that a shot … if we do I’ll update this review.

Been here a couple times, overall nice local place. I’ve gotten the chicken salad and the pizza(brought over from Papa Joe’s; same owners). Food and service were good overall.

Stopped here for a quick lunch while in Vermilion. The patty melt and tuna melt were okay, but the«homemade chips» were atrocious. Badly overcooked, unsalted, terrible. A responsible cook would not have served them. Worse, the waitress never stopped back to ask how everything was. Won’t be back. Ever.

Seriously, RUDE! I brought my son in for ice cream for his birthday. I ordered his sundae, and the less than enthusiastic woman at the counter made it. When I went to pay for it, the woman at the counter informed me that she wouldn’t take my card unless I met a $ 7 minimum. Okay, I can understand that, but maybe post a sign somewhere? She then told me it would cost her too much money to run my card, and told me that maybe McDonald’s would accept small purchases. Yeah, okay. You would rather me give my business to corporate America than to privately owned business? Unbelievable.

Great food and service. The food tastes just like Mom’s. The ice cream is great too. Old fashioned great food and service.

This quaint little gem has been here for many, many years. I knew it as Edna Mae’s for about 15 years, and it is now called Granny Joe’s. They used to make their own ice cream, but now serve a local creamery’s stuff… but it is still excellent. Lunch here is a treat… a step back into a simpler time. You really get the small-town USA feel when you come here. I come to Vermilion once a year for a week in the summer. My 7-year old talks about going to Edna Mae’s for the other 51 weeks of the year!

Man, you can live in a town for 22 years and still learn new things about it. I never even knew this place had anything other than ice cream, and I’m so glad I ventured to find out. Went for a late breakfast on a Saturday… I ordered a Cinnamon Crunch muffin, but they were out, and instead had a Chocolate one. Holy geez. That muffin was almost enough to sell me on this restaurant. Ridiculous. My parents both had omelettes which they RAVED about. My bacon and oatmeal were also solid. The dining room is sparsely decorated, but it suits the place. It’s a yellow room with white trim and basic decorations, but it gives off a clean, bright, cheerful vibe. Nothing about this place is extravagant, but we all left having really enjoyed breakfast and our experience. Accordingly: «Yay! We’re fans.» I rarely regret giving a new(to me) place a try. Good on, Granny Joe.

Cute spot. This ice cream parlor/lunch spot was once the town funeral parlor– hence the ice creamatorium joke. Lunch was fine, but nothing very special– american on rye grilled cheese, decent tomato soup. The chicken and dumpling soup seemed homemade with lots of pieces of chicken. The ice cream was good enough. My daughter’s pancakes were the real standout here. They were pleasantly substantial with large blueberries. The dough of the pancake was rich and very tasty. They are huge, and you can buy them singly. AND they serve breakfast all day! So you can forgo the sammys and stick with the pancakes!

I did a road trip from Davenport, Iowa to New York. I was on my way to a new job. Sick of chains, I drove off the main highway into Vermillion, OH. The town name just sounded so pretty that I thought there had to be something good. I stopped by a farmer’s stand. It was closed, but the people gave me directions to Liberty Avenue. I parked and walked up to Granny Joe’s. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries. Having never had sweet potato fries, they were wonderfully sweet and starchy. The pulled pork sandwich was sublime. I was too full to try the ice cream, but I’m sure it’s good. I’m really glad I went off the highway to come here.
