Went here with my family and loved the view! Service was very poor and pathetic! Walked to the podium where there was 4 Hostess standing around and didn’t get greeted. My husband had to do all the talking as if they were all inexperience hostess! They stated to feel free and stand where ever you can find a spot. We had our 18 n 11 yr old children with us to which they said, children are welcome here and they’ll come get us when a table opens up. During the 30 minutes we waited, we ordered 2 soft drinks which both was very stale and flat! Asked bartender to replace it to only get get it flat again!!! Ordered a glass of wine to receive it in a little glass, not a wine glass but a regular glass that was filthy! By this time, kids and I was disappointed and notice these damn hostess was just standing around talking and realize other people who came after us was seated! Two tables opened up and my husband went to ask the hostess what ever happened to our table, she claimed we were next but then seen other people come in and sat right down at the tables. All the hostess and practically every staff besides the bussers was unfriendly, seemed uptight, unprofessional, didn’t smile and didn’t feel welcomed!!! This by far was the WORSE place ever at Venice! I asked to speak to Manager but the guy with the fro refuse to call the Manager! He asked what it pertained to, which we stated the poor service, that we seemed they are not family oriented, hostess standing around not doing A DAMNTHINGBUTGOSSIP and fact that we waited over 30 minutes for a table to only watch several other people after us being seated!!! He never bother to apologize, just asked us to step aside while he assist other people who was coming off the elevator! Such a waste of a beautiful view to only have the rudest unprofessional staff here!!! Management should step up and train the staff to smile, be professional and teach them excellent customer service skills!!!

This place will always hold a place in my heart… it’s a Venice Locals spot… we live less than a 10 minute walk… we have had some amazing times at this joint winning the annual Halloween contest and getting engaged at sunset to name a view(see what I did there). They are renovating like crazy but they are doing it in a segmented way so your experience is never altered… recommend this spot to locals and tourists alike… it’s a guaranteed good time… definitely recommend reservations can get pretty packed… you can go through open table… all of the staff is friendly and genuine my most recent waitress Ivy(she’s a doll) has mastered the art of picture taking… Thanks Ivy and staff for making my late 20s the best time of my life!

I went here for the first time Friday. The view is great. I recommend reserving a table. The available seats are not in the most ideal location. One of the hostesses(a blk girl w/a nose ring) has a terrible attitude and ignored my friend and I when we approached the podium to ask about seating. The other hostess was lovely.

This is the 3rd time I’ve come back to this place for group events and each time I am more disappointed than the last. Each time we have been here the food has been mediocre the service has been awful and today’s experience topped it. We had a great server who worked her but off but then messed up our bill. Management here dies not care about return business at all. They kick you out after 2 hours regardless of how much money you are spending And trust me we were spending some money! The only good thing about this place is the view but even that is not worth the hassle the crappy service or the lackluster food, This place has lost me as a customer for sure!

For what it is, this place gets the job done. The best part about this place is obviously the views. Depending on what angle you sit at, you can either have breathtaking views of Venice Beach and the ocean, or of the greater city and skyscrapers far off in the distance. While generally not impressed by the bar itself, it had good enough options to satisfy. Came here this past weekend after much anticipation. I’ve been to lots of rooftop bars in and around LA lately, including the Standard Downtown, Perch, and the Downtown Ace Hotel, among others. This spot had been on my bucket list for some time now, and I must say I was slightly disappointed, though I would come back if I was in the area. Being that we didn’t have reservations, coming here was kind of a shot in the dark. Located on the top of a hotel, the elevator attracts long lines, and we ended up taking the stairs to get there. Once up top, we walked the perimeter and took in the awesome views of the beach and city. Now, it was time for drinks. I was a little bummed that all of their beers were bottled, and they had none on draft. Priced pretty high for a bottle ~$ 8, I got myself a locally brewed IPA and my friend got a Pacifico. Seating was generally taken, but we were able to find a table for the four of us and relax. This spot is definitely cool to stop in and check out, but I’m not sure how quick I’m dying to get back here. I would recommend at least giving this place a try. The views are worth it, and the vibes are good.

Came here last night to the windy rooftop with no hostess in sight. They had plenty of seating areas available but we could not find the hostess so we headed to the bar. The bartender was so sweet which is the only reason I’m giving this place a 3 star rating. The bartender called over the hostess asking can you get these two a table please. After that service got even worse. It was extremely windy and they say us next to heaters that weren’t working. We asked if they could turn it on because it was soooo cold and windy and she said it’s broken. There were other spaces available why seat us next to a broken heater. I’ve been to many rooftop bars and I’d never seen so many«broken» heaters. Last i checked having a roof top bar so close to the ocean is grounds for high winds and cold night breezes, it’s odd to me that they didn’t think to fix their heaters. We also asked for blankets which they offer for their customers but they«ran out.» There were less than 30 people up there last night how could a hotel run out of blankets is beyond me. In addition to having to sit in the wind our waitress took forever to come by, like 10 – 15 mins. Shortly after we finally placed our order, the hostess brought over 3 guys to sit across from us with blankets in hand. The men ended up not sitting there and they abandoned the blanket and we took it. The whole experience really sucked! Drinks were good and that’s pretty much it. Couldn’t even enjoy the view, that’s how much the service sucked.

Went there on Sunday afternoon at 1, place is 10% full, maybe. First off, My SO gets carded, he’s 51, sets the tone. We are there for wine and just to take in the views and chill. You can go straight up to the bar and order, but since their were 50 – 80 patio seats available, why not hang out right? Apparently, this isn’t the way management sees it. Honest to God, there are maybe 10 people at this bar, and the hostess sits us directly opposite to a party of four, 3 feet away from them, faced away from the ocean and a huge gas heater that blocks off any remaining view. I’m as social as the next person, but just wasn’t ready to have an intimate cocktail with complete strangers. We refuse to sit down and ask for any of the other 100 potential seats that aren’t on top of the people already seated. Well, that pissed off the hostess… She sneers in a derisive huff, and she walks up to the best seats overlooking the ocean. Again, nobody around for the better seats. I’m thinking, well that’s ok, at least we have a nice view. Not so fast, the hostess tells us our seats are where she removed the dinky plastic«reserved» sign, as that is the secret Masonic handshake we should have understood. The seats are next to two of the loudest, most obnoxious millennials you could imagine. So next 30 minutes in a VERY loud voice, we find out; who they are making out with, attempting to make out with, who they have made out with in the past, what time of the month it is, and virtually every other reason people despise valley girls. As we gazed out over the 7 or 8 rows of empty patio couches and then onto the ocean, we thought it would be nice to have another bottle of wine and chill, as we have a virtually zen like ability to laser focus on our surroundings and ignore the din of valley girl chatter. But remember the pissed off hostess? She told us we have 30 minutes to vacate the property as someone else has reserved this specific couch of the remaining 100 unoccupied seats. What a coincidence… 5 minutes after the 30 minute countdown, with a smarmy and knowing grin, pissed off hostess notifies us the«party» has arrived, and she needs this seat immediately. And certainly not any of the other 100 currently available seats. In all fairness, ID checker dude was cool, waitress was great, but the attitude by the hostess nazi was enough to make me never come back. We would have stayed and chilled with another bottle of wine, but the snippy pissed-off-at-everything hostess nazi ruined the afternoon. Find another place that is as cool as Venice beach

–Drinks served with Venice — This review is from years ago… After hiking Solstice Canyon in Malibu earlier, we made our way to Venice. My friend lived in West Hollywood; it didn’t make sense to fight traffic going back to his place, so we brought a change of clothes with us. After relaxing lunch at a Mexican place, we headed back to the car to clean up and change our outfits. I’ve always had a thing for Venice beach. It’s a melting pot of different people. It feels very different then most areas of LA. When I heard about this bar, I was excited. I thought it was a fresh idea to have an upscale, trendy bar in Venice. A place to enjoy a proper cocktail, rooftop. The juxtaposition was cool. As we headed to the lounge I felt a sense of unease. The vibe seemed off. There were a lot of young people milling about(More than normal). They had an air about them that I couldn’t pinpoint. I was going to mention it to my friend as we walked towards the Hotel Erwin, but I didn’t want to sound paranoid, or trouble him. Later, he’d tell me he felt the same thing. Once we rode the elevator to the top, everything changed. It was another world! All my worries drifted away in the breeze. The view was stunningly beautiful. Southern California, epitomized! The open roof top is surrounded by sectional sofas, tables and heater lamps. Clean and modern design. I was in love. I had made reservations weeks prior. I choose a time slot that was a few hours before sundown and there wasn’t a line. The host greeted us and took us to our reserved table. We ordered a few rounds of drinks, some appetizers, and enjoyed the open air environment. The one negative: the restroom situation. It was a pain since they’re located two floors down. A friend joined us later in the evening and didn’t have a problem getting in. It was really busy by this time, and a line had formed with people waiting to be admitted. The server was helpful, and kept the drinks flowing. We enjoyed the variety of cocktails we sampled. Everyone was happy to be here, the mood was joyous …Then we heard a loud pop! It was gunfire! It came from the beach below us. People were screaming as they scattered like insects. The beach that was just moments ago at max capacity, emptied in minutes. I’ve never seen anything like it. We were thankful we were up high, because the crowds overtook the businesses below, as they looked for places to flee. The SWAT team arrived shortly, and helicopters were flying overhead. It was all very dramatic. Apparently, it was a «Flash Mob», a gang activity that was created from a Tweet earlier in the day. One man was shot in the head(not fatally) Here is the news story: It was an experience I won’t forget. The staff remained professional the entire time, doing a fantastic job under extreme circumstances. Bravo! As the sky began to darken, our attention returned to the task at hand, watching the show we came here for, the sunset.

I see the appeal as a rooftop lounge. It is one of few rooftop lounges that I’ve been on in the LA area. The view is amazing, I mean the sunset was gorgeous. But this place was so crowded, it just wasn’t really that fun. The people were dressed up and very obnoxious, and this is coming from a girl who lives in New York City, but I spent more of my life in LA. Perhaps I’m just not used to the LA crowd anymore. The drinks were pricey, but I guess I’ve seen worse. The line to get drinks was extremely chaotic. After you get your drink, do expect to get bumped into and spill half of it on yourself and your nice attire because there are simply that many people at this place. Because the line is long for drinks, going back to get a second drink was a nightmare, but if you get two drinks to start with, you risk spilling more of it on yourself. I’d say once is enough. I wouldn’t go back simply because there are too many people. The only thing this place had going was the view, and I can get a good view of the sun setting at a lot of other places.

The views are spectacular and definitely worth it. We ended up making a reservation earlier in the week and requested that we get one of the best views of the boardwalk if possible. We got the front corner seating area with quite the view! In regards to the customer service, it was ok. The waitress would check in every once in a blue moon. Definitely don’t come by if you’re super hungry. The food and drinks are just play as well. We got the chicken tacos, sliders and Mai Tai drinks. It’s way over priced. I recommend just coming up here(you don’t need reservations) to check it the view and if you wish to have a drink, you can just walk up to the bar. I heard that they time you for how long you’re at your table(with reservation) and they did tell the people next to us they only had 20 minutes left. We didn’t stay that long– we preferred to take photos then head to the beach.

Sunset is definitely the time to come. Late night is cool too but take advantage of the views. They provide blankets for cool nights and have outdoor heaters so I wasn’t cold at all and it was about 50 outside. Didn’t really seem to have a dress code– saw all levels of beach bum to party dresses. Drinks are pricey $ 15 each but bring a deck of cards and or good conversation with you. I recommend the Mai tai– I’ve had this many places but whatever they did differently to there’s made it the boom! Service was ok although a little slow, so just be prepared for that.

One of my favorite spots in Venice to relax, watch the sunset and have a drink. The service overall is unbelievably friendly and attentive, but I do have a small gripe which I already addressed with the very friendly lady that I spoke with over the phone. I called to schedule a reservation for a party of four, I was placed on hold which was not a problem… until I was on hold for 15 minutes, used my husbands phone(while I had mine still holding) to attempt an call back in without losing my spot on hold. Surprisingly the call was answered immediately with how can I help you, not do you mind if I place you on a brief hold, which to me would have been logical because theres been another call on hold for 15 minutes. Very frustrating! As I mentioned I did discuss this with the hostess and expressed my concern and all was resolved. Will we be coming back? Of course

This was my first time at high rooftop lounge. Upon exiting the elevator and stepping onto the rooftop we were greeted with the smell of sawdust and a big construction area(apparently they are renovating to add more standing area as part of the lounge). Well, it only took a few steps further to be welcomed by the most breathtaking view of the city, the boardwalk and the beach… wow… Just WOW! Unfortunately the service was a bit slow and the drinks were just mediocre… But I can’t say enough about that view! Make sure to go at sunset to really appreciate it! There are heat-lamps by every table but don’t forget to take a jacket or a shawl as it gets a bit cold being right by the ocean.

The main reason to come here is the view. Everything else is standard trendy bar fare. I’m sure it’s a fun place to come with a big party, where high rollers can order Opus One or bottles of expense liquor. Drinks are on the pricey side, but good. They have a few decent wines by the glass(i.e. Justin Cabernet) and spirits(i.e. Johnnie Walker Black). We came early evening on a weekend night and were surprised to find a table. The menu is limited, but should satisy average tastes(tacos, sliders, etc.). You need to use the elevator to get up and down, which can take time.

Awesome location except there is next to no parking — street parking is slim pickings. Slow bar service, gets very crowded and hard to move, order or even enjoy the beautiful view. I recommend reserving a couch area beforehand, give you and your friends a place to sit, otherwise you’re corralling and standing around the center and it can be awkward. Blankets also available for those who have the reserved areas, which is nice on those cooler nights.

Stunning view doesn’t make up for mediocre drinks & poor service, including a $ 600 overcharge. Here’s my review: LOCATION Nestled atop the Hotel Erwin, High Rooftop Lounge boasts an uninterrupted view of the ocean. The view is the only thing this place has going for it. PARKING Parking isn’t too bad, free street parking available. SERVICE Have visited 3 times, the third Jan. 2016. One of three servers were friendly & genuine, two downright rude. Each of three visits had at least one incorrect order. Bouncer was overly enthusiastic, but that could be ignored if not for the atrocious host staff: First visit, it took 15+ min to greet our party in a nearly empty restaurant. Second visit, nothing wrong. Third visit, a member of my party, who works as a concierge for a luxury hotel, called High Rooftop on the phone re: reserving a table. It was communicated that $ 60 per person was required as a minimum food and beverage spend to reserve a table. This $ 60 included a cover charge. Another member of our party called to confirm this same statement: each person was required to spend $ 60, but that would cover entrance and fee to reserve a table. At the end of the evening, we were billed over $ 1200: around $ 600 for food/beverage, plus an additional $ 60 per person cover charge. This directly conflicted with what the host had described to us in two separate conversations to two separate people. Bottom line: we would not have spent $ 60 per person we had not been told we were required to do so. After following-up, High Rooftop provided a $ 300 gift card and refused to refund to cc, despite the clear miscommunication of the bar’s staff on two separate occasions. If this had been the first time myself or my friends had received poor service, I would have brought the rating up to 3 stars. FOOD/BEV Mediocre drink quality makes $ 15 price tag a rip-off. Worst martini I’ve ever had – and a martini isn’t that hard to make. House drinks are equally repulsive. I suggest retitling the alcoholic version of the master cleanse«Devil Piss.» Each food item group ordered, from tacos to charcuterie, was met with an «eh» or outright«ew.» Pro tip: Bathrooms are two floors below the top deck, take the stairs as opposed to overcrowded, slow elevator.

You’re definitely paying for the view here, but on a clear day, it’s worth it. This rooftop bar is located atop Hotel Erwin, just a few buildings down from the famous«Venice» sign off of Winward. Enter through the hotel doors by the valet driveway, then take the elevator all the way up to the roof. They give you a wristband upon entering, then you’re free to roam around and reenter if you need to leave for the bathroom. If you come midday Saturday or Sunday, there usually isn’t a wait to get up. It’s never too crowded if you’re doing weekend day-drinking, but all of the tables and lounge areas are reserved. My friend from out of town called to make reservations, but he was told it costs $ 60 per person. You definitely don’t need reservations to come here, so long as you don’t mind standing around. During Venice’s peak tourist summer season, it gets more crowded here than the crisp fall months. Since everyone loves watching sunset over the ocean(a romantic couples activity?), there’s usually a line to get in around that time. Over summer my boyfriend and I arrived at sunset and had to wait an hour in line to get in. The drinks are $ 15 and they don’t have happy hour on weekends. The drinks aren’t anything special, and for what you’re getting, they’re definitely overpriced. That being said, they have a decent aviation, one of my favorites. The atmosphere here is fun, and it’s a great way to people-watch all the craziness down on the Venice boardwalk. Even though the drinks are a bit pricey, it’s worth it for the view!

I’ve been here twice with two different experiences. The first time was during the day for drinks. The view is beautiful and drinks were good. The second time I went with a small group for dinner, and I don’t think I’d go back. While the food was delicious, the service was bad enough to keep us from coming back. It took over 20 minutes to get our drink order(after waiting 15 minutes to be greeted). Which I would understand if they were busy, but there were only a handful of tables. The server acted like she was doing us a favor and seemed very annoyed to be waiting on us from the start.

Nice view of the water and nearby city. The buildings in Venice are relatively short so you can actually see a fair distance from this rooftop. I imagine this is the place to be during sunset. You must make reservations if you want a booth/table. I would recommend this – otherwise you stand awkwardly along the rails behind each booth/table area. The drinks are okay. I would only really come here for the view.

Came here on a Monday night for cocktails. LOVED the energy and setting of this rooftop bar. Maybe because it wasn’t crowded on Monday night. Maybe because of the company I was with. Cocktails were 15 bucks a pop but tasty and strong. There are heated lamps and staff offered blankets. The greeters were enjoyable. The rooftop sofa areas were clean and super comfy. Had the full moon above us. The menus were lit up(super cool). Would def come back. Only downside– they closed around 10pm — and I was enjoying myself so much that I didn’t want to go.

Came when it was dark so couldn’t see the view. But nice little cozy rooftop lounge. The tables are pretty private so if you come with a group, you can have great conversations going. It was a little chilly because you’re by the water so def order lots of drinks to stay warm. There’s only one elevator for the entire hotel so you will definitely encounter some interesting people while in the elevator. I found free street parking across hotel Erwin. Not gonna lie, walking around this part of Venice was not my cup of tea.

Came here on a Sunday and it was still crowded, didn’t realize you should have a reservation but we were lucky enough to get a table right away! Hostess was nice and so was our waitress. The seating areas are split which was a surprise but was still fun, unless you have a large group you can get the whole area to yourself. Ambiance was great! After having dinner, we decide to venture over here. I heard of this place perusing through the Venice area listings on Unilocal.Being a fan of rooftop lounges, I decided to guide us here. To get here, take the elevator inside the hotel lobby to the top floor. From there, take a left and walk across the bride. Show your ID and you’re good. Since there was only two of us, we had no problem finding seats. We sat across a group of tourists from France. We walked up to the bar to order drink, and I ordered a redbull vodka. The view was great at night, and we oversaw the Venice boardwalk. The seating in this bar is along the perimeter of the roof, so seating anywhere will get you a view. Restrooms are on the 5th floor of the hotel, so it’s a short walk down the stairs, or a short elevator ride down. It’s a chill spot, check it out.

Going to keep this one short… so thanks to fellow Unilocalera I found this place. New to the west coast and decided to venture to Venice to see what the hype is about. But of course this review isn’t about the beach… so! I got to the hotel, very easy to find and easy to up to the rooftop. At first glance I noticed some construction work. Hey it’s normal but I don’t care for it. After getting my ID checked I went to the bar and got a drink and food. The bartender was very knowledgeable. I don’t remember her name but it was indeed a female. I got quesadillas, very good!!! I only give this place 3 stars because of the construction, and the music selection was terrible. There was no variety, even at one point I heard a gospel song. The crowd was cool but if your looking for a «young urban professionals»(which I am) kinda place this isn’t it

If you don’t have a reservation you are treated like a second class citizen. There are really cool table, and lounge areas. with heat lamps, and lets not forget that view! For the sunset you can’t beat it. I have been here a few times, some with table service some standing room only. There are high tables you can stand at, but you will not get service. You must go to the bar and purchase your own drinks. I thought this was odd. Why not allow the servers to earn extra money? They are making their rounds anyway… Oh well. Went there on one occasion where it wasn’t busy. We asked for a table, was asked in return if we had a reservation. We did not. So he advised us that this really was the way to go about it. The bar at this point was at 10% capacity. He advised that if we wanted to wait it would be 1.5−2 hours. I asked if there was a way to just have 1 drink enjoy the view and go. He assured me this was impossible. We went to one of the standing tables, which was covered in spilled beer. No one would assist in the cleaning. I was told it would be ok for me to go get a rag. Ok sure. Let me see if anyone needs their drinks freshened, wash some dishes, and hand out mints in the bathroom. I’m not on your payroll. Sorry to bother you. With the prices you charge, you can afford some better customer focusing practice.

I had a great experience at the High Rooftop Lounge. We went on a Saturday afternoon without a reservation and were able to walk in right away(amazing!). One of the waitresses gave allowed us to sit at a reserved table until the party with the reservation arrived. We got a prime spot on the corner closest to the water with an amazing view! She gave us a 15 min warning before the other party was set to arrive and helped us find another spot to stand once they did. Our group ordered an array of drinks and everyone was pleased with their choice. One friend ordered the tacos ordered the tacos which didn’t come with salsa(apparently they don’t have it?) but she was able to get hot sauce which worked out fine. I found easy(and free!) parking on the street but the rest of our party valet’d at the hotel and said it was not very expensive especially given the location.

I would like to preface this review by saying that the view is undoubtedly five stars. It is absolutely gorgeous up here — especially around sunset. Connected to the Hotel Erwin, High Rooftop Lounge is a great place to swing through after work or after a properly timed dinner to enjoy a drink in Venice. I definitely prefer grabbing a drink/standing up here than going to Venice Ale House. The view and vibe is something unbeatable. They also have absinthe at the bar — which is one of my favorites. The cocktails could be better(and they are a little on the pricier side as well). There isn’t anything standout about them. Definitely make a reservation unless you want to be standing. I’ve made this mistake on many occasion. Even though the drinks a little much/simple, I would still make the time to come out and post up on one of the couches and enjoy some good company and beautiful views.

Beautiful locale! You take the elevator from the Lobby of the Erwin Hotel up to the top floor. You then walk on the deck toward the bar area. It’s interesting because the center of the area is roofing, so the bar itself is actually only the periphery. There are lounge chairs and low tables around the entire place. The bar itself is small and make-shift looking, but it contributes to the super-chill vibe. There are those flame heat lamps around, as well as some high tables at the end toward the ocean. You can hear the waves at night. I’m sure it must be gorgeous, but hot during the day. Drinks are very good. I had a glass of prosecco for $ 10. Other people got spiced mango among other drinks. A lot of people were eating food up here, so I assume it’s good. I ate the Barlo Kitchen and Cocktails downstairs before coming up here. Good lounge music, but not a place to dance. **Valet and public parking can be pricy. I was able to find street parking on all the side streets or even further down on Pacific Ave. Good luck!

We Unilocaled this place while in the hood, wanted to do some lounging after dinner nearby, Rooftop always sounds fun to me! This lounge is located on the rooftop of Hotel Erwin in the heart of Venice beach, I can imagine the views would be so beautiful during sunset hours. The lounge was a little packed already before 9pm, the host girl was nice enough to give us a nice seating for an hour or until the table reservation people show up, we were just gonna hang around for about an hour, so it was perfect for us. They have a decent food and drink menu, I tried the Treehouse specialty cocktail, it was a little too weak for me, so I ordered lemon drop with Goose, two of those, they were tasty and strong, hubby had Remy coke. It was a little crowded and loud at times, but still fun, we saw some fireworks on the beach too, it was lovely. A very nice place to do lounging, with the rooftop views? It’s even better! Definitely going to drop by again for a few drinks whenever we are in the hood! Ps. public parking lot across the street for $ 20, steep! Restrooms are located on 5th floor.
