House of Magnolias

Kayla — owner of House of Magnolias was such a pleasure to work with. She was refferred to us by a friend who had worked with her for a fashion shoot previously, when we quickly discovered that everyone Unilocal recommended us was almost double our budget…

We used her services for our Wedding #Lovelyday2014 and we told her right off the bat that she had a very limited budget to work with. Our Venue (Inn of the Seventh Ray) was a small outdoor venue with AMAZING food and AMAZING quality space. Though it was slightly on the expensive side in our list, we picked this venue because we thought we can save money on the amount of flowers and décor we would have to get, as there were greens and plant life all around.
Before discovering ‘House of Magnolias’, we were interviewing 4 different florists who had all quoted us over 5K~8K for what we would want –almost double what we were hoping for the budget to be. We had already made our centerpieces, sign in table décor, wreaths etc but we still were unable to bring the quotes below 4K. until we spoke to Kayla.
First off, Kayla came to meet us. We did not have to drive to her.
Her original quote to begin with was lower than what everyone had quoted (around 3.5K), but what really appealed to us was her energey and her suggestions on where and how she can bring costs even lower. Where other florists told us, if this is too expensive we can use less flowers and more greens, she told and showed us examples of the greens that she could use to not compromise the look (like baby’s breath) instead of going full greens. She also gave us a lot of creative ideas that we had not thought of, and we could bounce ideas back and forth and inspire each other. For us who are both artists, she was a delight to work with and could give us a clear vision of what she was thinking and what we would want. She is clearly an artist like us. She was also very realistic about costs and told us what we could buy ourselves to cut costs instead of having her buy and charging extra. She also asked what our priority areas were and what areas we would be able to make compromises on the flowers. She would also inform us about flowers that die fast and wouldn’t last until the end of the 5 hour wedding.
Her quote break down sheet was by far the clearest and most organized out of the 6 florists we interviewed. She had a very clear break down sheet with images that allowed us to see the total, and where we could make compromises and where we could spend more money if needed. It made it very easy to envision, and make revisions if we changed our minds during the process.
In the end she worked within our budget (3K) and made us feel confident that we were going to get what we discussed with her.
*CAN WE DO THIS INSTEAD?
Like any wedding planning, things changed a lot as we had more decorations done. We wanted more things and wanted different things as we planned in more detail. Kayla was great about letting us know how much extra it would cost and would update the quote sheet accordingly. One thing she also did was even tell us ways to make it even cheaper than the quote we had before. In the end the final final quote ended up 100 $ less than what we had discussed and she told us that the leftover amount from our budget would be either mailed to us or we can put it towards something else if we want something extra last minute. She was completely trust worthy and was so honest about where she was spending our money and made us feel so comfortable working with her.
*SETTING UP THE DAY OF
Kayla was on time, and was on point with all the areas we talked about decorating. After we had done our first look, and when we came into the venue for pictures we were very happy with what she was doing. One thing that we can really tell her clients is that Kayla is AMAZING in adding greens in the mix of flowers. She works with greens very well, so just because she wants to change flowers to greens to save you money, it doesn’t mean you’re getting random throw ins.
I will say, there was one area where we thought the flowers did not do enough (sign in table arch décor), but this was an area where we told her to go smaller than what she had originally wanted. She originally suggested that the arch on the table to be double the size of what we ended up with, and having seen the result she was completely right. So although we thought this area was not up to par with the rest of the décor, it was our compromise and Kayla was absolutely right in wanting to make it twice the size… That would have been perfect… (Dammit…) ^^
It was a blast working with Kayla and I would happily recommend her to anyone for any event. Don’t let her lack of reviews fool you. She will work her hands off and keep you within your budget. I ordered a hand tied bouquet from House Of Magnolias for my mom for Mother’s Day this year and it was GORGEOUS!!! The creative style of the florist is modern yet still classy and elegant! My mom couldn’t believe how pretty the bouquet was! House of Magnolias is excellent for any occasion, and very professional! I will definitely use them for flowers in the future!
