Henze’s Bakery

I had a donut craving, and after checking out suggestions on Unilocal,I decided to try out Henze’s Bakery to satisfy the craving. It was an excellent decision. Henze’s has a nice selection of donuts, pastries, and other confections. We tried the Long Johns, cannoli, caramel bacon donut, cinnamon bun with chocolate drizzle, cherry/​cheese-​filled turnover, toasted coconut donut, and cherry danish. It was all delicious. Henze’s has a small seating area to enjoy treats there, but even the pastries that we took home stayed relatively fresh for a while.
I’m also a sucker for good customer service, and so I was really pleased by the employee’s willingness to answer questions and make recommendations.
While it is perhaps a wee bit on the pricey side ($ 0.90 for a donut; $ 1.49 for the caramel bacon donut; $ 1.99 for cannoli), I would much rather give my money to a private business than to Dunkin Donuts, and in terms of freshness, Henze’s has Dunkin beat hands down.
All in all, this will certainly be my new go-​to spot for delicious donuts in Valpo.

Great Customer Service! Made my daughter a specialty cake plus a dozen cupcakes for her 13^th birthday at the last minute! 2^nd speciality cake from them and I will never go anywhere else!

Chocolate cake was perfect, and the service was excellent.

This used to be Chuck’s and when I went there recently, I experienced good service and decent prices, but my pumpkin donut was really dry. I tried a bite of a long john and that was better.

Love there donuts. I’m a little disappointed in their Apple Fritters though. The last two times I’m, they have been over cooked and their Cheese Pockets have less cheese.

Good doughnuts. Quick. A nice variety to choose from. The long johns are my favorite here. The glazed are good, but I don’t think any place can compare to Krispy Kreme hot out of the oven. Nevertheless these are still very good and they open early.
