We went to My Café this Sunday for brunch. I had pancakes and scrambled eggs, my partner had two eggs scrambled with crispy home fries. We had big olé glasses of orange juice, and waters. Everything was great, including the service, which was fast and friendly. The interior was newly remodeled. I will definitely go back. It’s not on Santa Clara St any more, in fact that location has been demolished. It’s now at 38 Admiral Callaghan Lane, Vallejo, CA94591,(707) 643‑2244. It’s in the Howard Johnson’s.

«Support Indy Owners!» I always try to support the non chains, so I went into My Café hoping for the best. To be honest I would only go back in a pinch. Too many shortcuts. I heard the microwave going, and can’s being opened and that is not a good thing. We had the burgers which were not bad, but the«fresh» fish and chips were literally triangles of frozen fish that was pretty disgusting. Even the waitress looked at me funny when I ordered it. It’s just lazy cooking in my mind. With all of the fish that we have in the area to cook frozen triangle fish sticks as fresh fish and chips is not good. Go get fish from Costco or just don’t serve it. The breakfasts are better, with ample portions and good service. Pro’s: good service, breakfasts are not bad. Con’s: many items are not fresh. After watching a ton of Ramsey’s kitchen nightmares, Small places like this have got to serve fresh, awesome food or they will just be ok and never really make it big, or even survive. They should dump some of the more abstract things like fish and chips and other items, and just make basic fresh food. We live in the bay area and there is no excuse for not cooking fresh food. I mean even go to costco for God’s sake. Kind of sad. Just ok in my book and not a place I’d seek out.

My Café is where my co-worker and I ended up eating during a work field trip up to the gloriously bland and recently bankrupt city of Vallejo. A greasy spoon dive that appears to be situated in an old Denny’s, I actually thought the place was kind of awesome in a gross and dirty Midwestern kind of way. Man, does that sound pretentious. I guess what I mean is it’s the kind of road house type restaurant you’d find yourself in, in the middle of the country, on a road trip. Better? They serve breakfast all day(a plus), have awesome huge burgundy vinyl booths, and it smells heavily of deep fry and like you can smoke inside although you can’t. However, there is a lovely ancient looking Marlboro tall can by the door to greet you where you can stub out your ciggy, which I witnessed one rough looking woman do several times throughout her meal. Overall, our waitress was very friendly, my grilled cheese was fine, and I loved the surplus of people watching ops.

Generic diner food heated in the can from whence it came.
