My wife and I were driving through Nebraska on a tour of noteworthy farming apparatus, and we were lucky enough to find this gem. Great food, great service, great people. Doing things right, the Nebraska way — the American way. Stop by if you’re in town!

I actually went to Rough Reins two days in a row for lunch. The first day the special was lasagne, the second day was an open-face hot beef sandwich and mashed potatoes with gravy. Both days had different soup choices; ham and bean stew the first day and chili the second. Each day also featured different homemade pies: raisin on day one, and chocolate cream pie day two. Two of us ate well both days for less than $ 20.00. A typical hamburger and sandwich menu augmented by a few special entrees like chicken fried steak or walleye rounded out the choices, in addition to the daily specials. Generally the food was stick-to-your-ribs Midwest fare. The roast beef stood at out as melt-in-the mouth delicious. The chocolate cream pie was also a highlight. The ambience was«small-town hole-in-the– wall,» with wait staff who were timely and friendly. Going there two days in a row probably says more than the rest of this review however, so I will end on that note.
