On our way back from York to Omaha we wandered through Utica and found The Bullet Hole for lunch. It is a small main street place and we arrived a little late as the lunch crowd was clearing out. Ms T ordered one of the daily specials, a grilled chicken wrap with bacon and cheese and some ranch dressing. This was really pretty good. The chicken breast was fresh, juicy and tasty and the bacon was a nice touch. These things can sometimes be dry, but this one was not. It also was large and a bargain, accompanied by curly fries and a nice piece of home made spice cake. I ordered a breaded Pork Tenderloin sandwich. It was standard as I expected, but you never know. This one was of the fabricated style, not a cut of pork. It was OK, but not what you would order again. I think the thing to do in these small town restaurants is to order their daily special. That way you are getting what they put the most effort into and it will be fresh. Based on Ms T’s daily special, this is a decent local lunch place. It is also probably all that Utica has and I wish them well. It has an amazing, huge wooden bar that is worth seeing. I always enjoy trying these places rather than the chains along the interstate.

The Bullet Hole is over a century old(believed to have opened in the late 1800s) and it has always been named The Bullet Hole. The bar itself was constructed in 1892 by the Brunswick-Balke-Collender Company in St. Louis and originally used in Dubuque, IA before being shipped here in 1906. For being so old, it’s in amazing condition! Drink prices here are AMAZINGLY cheap(I’ve uploaded a photo of the drink menu). Our bartender was fantastic and was more than happy to share the history of the building and town with us.
