I love the food and drinks here, but last night we made reservations for 4 people, since we knew it would be busy for Valentine’s weekend. We got there half an hour early and ended up waiting 2 hours to be sat. We ended up leaving since the hostess had forgotten about us and had been seating other people ahead of us, who had later reservations. The hostess didn’t even try to apologize to us and just said ‘okay’ when we said we were leaving. And we weren’t the only group who had been neglected.

Hillbilly Hibachi anyone? Hey, I like Hibachi as much as anyone, but you couldn’t pay me to dine in the Hillbilly Hibachi room at Shogun. Therefore, the sushi side of Shogun, is the only option… unless, you’re a roughneck, sans a few teeth, love to slurp down Budweiser, and possess third grade level grammar skills– then, you’ll be in redneck heaven! All jokes aside, Shogun does have the best sushi in Tyler, hands down! Soju, and Wasabi suck, and are in the minor leagues compared to this place. I generally judge sushi by how good the nigiri /sashimi is. At this Shogun, I’ve never been disappointed with either. In fact, if you want to kick it up a notch, shoot for the toro. Come on, you only live once! Shogun offers some damn good, fresh toro, at reasonable prices. For those of us power drinkers, Shogun offers a full bar. They have a decent wine /sake list, and a plethora of the hard stuff. The beer menu is limited though. Service has always been decent, or better. For sushi in Tyler, this is the only option.

Food is always good. We have been there twice recently with a reservation. Both times we waited over 30 min to be seated. All while there were pen hibachi tables. No idea what is going on there.

Drinks are on point. Sushi is fresh as f*** and the chefs will change your life one roll at a time. Hibachi chefs are awesome company. Tried the noodles instead of the fried rice for the first time and they were awesome.

In town on business. Now this is a Gem of a place! Very friendly staff! Great sushi chef! Have Nuke take care of you! He made me some hand rolls and brought me Hamachi Kama, which is Yellowtail cheek. It’s awesome! Totally recommend Shogun to anyone for a great meal!

Great food. Great staff. Great management. Great atmosphere. I always enjoy coming here, whether for hibachi or sushi. Their happy hour is my under the radar go-to as they have some of the best deals every weekday.

Maurice again!!! Tiny paper thin lemon on a salmon tuna roll?! The coolest freshest bite of heaven ever, and the dipping sauce to die for! A neatly shown tangled mess of deliciousness with spicy mayo and hidden flavors drizzled with a sweet and spicy taste and perfect crunch in your mouth! That’s the description my daughter gives to the seaweed salad! Highly recommend! We get it every time. We will always come here. Best chef and food ever!

Out of all the Shoguns in Tyler, this one has the best service and friendliest staff members. We will choose this location every time.

They apparently don’t understand the concept of a reservation here. They are capable of taking the reservation just not actually able to understand what the meaning of it is. Almost a one hour wait past the reservation time we were early for.

This is a favorite in our family. We choose here for any occasion… bday, grad, anniversary, good grades, etc… Food is always delish. Get the lobster crunch sushi. The only downside is you eat with strangers and it’s hard to visit. But they in terrain u with their cooking skills.

It’s been about a year since my wife and I have been here and, sadly, this time will be our last. We decided to sit in the Sushi Bar seating and had four different sushi rolls and an appetizer and we were disappointed in everything. The tuna appetizer was so overpowered by peppercorn that the flavor of the fish was non-existent. I was shocked to find a «spicy tuna roll» that wasn’t spicy, instead they used something like a cayenne pepper on top to spice it and that simply overwhelmed it completely. The other rolls were simply flavorless. And one was simply a very odd flavor combination. The execution of the rolls, the lack of fresh fish, and service that wasn’t «warm and inviting» will have us looking for other restaurants in town.

I had heard good things about this joint, but sadly after my first experience here I’ve decided I won’t be returning. Our server was new and I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but the service was pretty awful. Thankfully another server, Tony, was there to pick up his coworker’s slack. He was the highlight of our meal. As far as the food, the fried rice was super salty and kind of burnt tasting. The sushi legitimately made me gag. In case you didn’t know, fresh raw fish shouldn’t be spongy and stinky. I’m only giving 2 stars because the shrimp gyoza was tasty and the puffer fish tank was entertaining. Needless to say, I won’t be returning. Tony, if you’re reading this, I don’t know you but thanks for salvaging an otherwise terrible experience.

We went here with about 10 other people for my grandson’s birthday a couple of weeks ago. It was… okay. While the chef certainly puts on an entertaining show, what with the knife juggling, flames shooting up and gongs chiming, I can’t say that it offset the somewhat high prices of some very mediocre food. My husband got a steak and I had the shrimp, both of which were just… okay. Not much seasoning with either of these, even with the little dishes of spicy sauce they provided. You could choose between steamed rice or fried rice, but had to pay an extra $ 1.99 per person for the fried variety. Huh? It’s…rice! Hubby and I ordered the steamed rice and the chef kind of acted like we were plebians for not going for the fried rice. We tasted our daughter’s fried rice and, I have to tell you, it wasn’t good enough to account for the extra $ 2 bucks for… rice. Anyway, we all had a good time and we discovered that my grandson is very, very good at catching food with his mouth(the chef was tossing shrimp at him, kind of like feeding a seal at the zoo???)! I understand that the sushi is pretty good, but we are not into raw fish, so I can’t speak to that.

Shogun has stepped up their game. Since my last review, I have been back multiple times. Each time I have been more than happy with my sushi experience. This location has more sushi menu options, as well as more seating than the location further south. The staff is always friendly and attentive.

This place ruined our 10th wedding anniversary. I am allergic to Shellfish. Hubby and I asked if it would be possible to be seated alone when we arrived. The Hostess said«No Problem». We knew we would have to wait, but it was a night with no kids and our anniversary. After waiting for a table for 2 hours, they finally call our name. By this time we are starving to say the least. About 5 minutes later another couple sits down at the table with us and starts talking amongst themselves about what Shrimp Meal they would order. By this time it’s after 10:30 or 11pm and most of Tyler is shut down. We ask the wait staff if we could AGAIN have a private table and they say no. By that time a 3rd couple has joined the table. The guys that perform have the performance down to an art as they do it over and over again. The last time we were at Shogun’s I had to remind the performing chef 3 times not to give me Shrimp and even then he threw it at me wanting me to catch it in my mouth and I ducked like a bomb was gonna hit me, of course he thought it was funny until he remembered why I avoided the shrimp. When we realized they would not keep their word after 2 hours of waiting, during which time we could have gone to another nice resturant down the street, we walked out. We will forever recall our 10th Wedding Anniversary because it was spent at Whataburger!

Shoguns is definitely the go to place for any big event and where to bring your out of town guests. I can understand why, the food is very tasty! I’ve only had hibachi here once and sushi on several occasions. The one time I had hibachi I got shrimp and lobster and I enjoyed it. I really liked the salad dressing. But I’m really reviewing the sushi, its so delish! I’ve tried many different rolls and they were all yummy, all very fresh. Large selection of rolls. I would say its comparable to some sushi restaurants in Dallas. Mmmm…dang I’m craving some sushi now!!!
