I absolutely LOVE this place! My boyfriend and I adore this restaurant. The service is great and the food is amazing. Sushi is superb and the sesame chicken is wonderful! They even did a flower decoration out of a carrot! So pretty and added a nice touch to our meal. Will definitely be back!

First time at this type of restaurant, where you cook on a grill at your table. The wife and kids loved it, and it was fun. Everyone can get involved, and the food and service was great. The kids haven’t stopped talking about it, and I’m sure we’ll be back soon for another visit. I highly recommend it!

I took my best friend here twice, my mother and i went for mothers day and she loved it. We went around 10 and they were pretty slow. I’m actually on my way there now to celebrate my cousin graduating from high school! They have a reasonably priced menu and the food is delicious! Not to mention an open bar and friendly service! Definitely recommend this restaurant! I’m telling all of my friends.

Service was good. The food on the other hand was mostly all fat. We ordered the family meal meat lovers more than 50% of this plate of food was just pure fat not very flavorful either. Cooking your own food at the table was sort of fun not worth the money. The server Colton was nice and informative but once again food completely not worth the price.

Food was just ok. Portions was small and drinks was very small for the price!!! Found a hair in my food, was very upset about that so they took 20% off tab. Nice environment but I ordered the lunch special. Don’t know if I will be back for a main corse or not.

Went back last week after first visit in Jan 2016. Not impressed this time. Good for me they went with an all you can eat price for meat. My wife is a veggie person and the only thing she could order was shrimp(fair) and scallops(tasteless). Japanese restaurant, why not some salmon or tuna to grill? Believe it or not, the waitstaff was overly attentive, constantly coming by and asking, «how’s it going guys?», annoying. My meal was fine, drinks OK, but you do pay allot here for what you get. Side are still meager and pricey for what you get.

Second time I have been here and we love it. Cooking your own food is fun in this enjoyable atmosphere and the service is awesome. The food is amazing and high quality. Definitely a great place to bring people and interact.

Had a fabulously yummy meal — which we cooked ourselves— WHAT A BLAST! Great service from our waiter, TimMcGraw, who hooked us up with great recommendations and instructions! Seriously wonderful variety! Great place for girls night, date night, or fun with friends. Fun casual atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back! What are YOU waiting for???

Well I’m not really a big Japanese food fan. But I will say that the rice was good but I feel the atmosphere & the food was too American. I was hoping maybe Japanese traditional restaurant but oh well. That all I can say.

I have been away from home for weeks now and just got in to Tyler last night. This has been the best meal that I have had since I left home BYFAR. My waiter Ashton was fantastic and the food was phenomenal. I will be here for a week and intend to visit several more times. I had the Tokyo nachos, beef ribs, porky belly and cabbage kimchi. FANTASTIC! Can’t wait to try more on the menu. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience Ashton. You are a true asset to the restaurant.

Such a cool experience. This is a great date night restaurant and the service was excellent. The food was fresh, served fast and seasoned perfectly. It is clearly home made and well thought out. I’ve never been to a place where we can cook our own meats but it was tremendous fun and I will definitely be back.

Ordered the premier group for 3, food just ok, service was ok, left thinking that the other Asian establishments in town have nothing to worry about. We all agreed the meats were bland and the broccoli dish was a complete waste of $ 4 — there was very little in the pouch. Conversely the corn pouch was plentiful and tasty. At $ 25 per head, Tyler may not be too interested in this tricked up restaurant. This spot has only been open a few weeks so maybe they will tweak things and make it better, but for now two stars is all I can muster for Kanpai.

I liked Kanpai but they have work to do. Based on just a few Unilocal reviews, I planned to leave hungry and true to form I did. Service was absent at best and slow. The saving grace was the comp wine. We ordered edamame and chicken skewers to start. The chicken skewers were not thoroughly cooked so we turned on the grill and finished cooking them. The edamame portion was about ½ cup and very overcooked. My partner ate one and left the other 10 for me. The Kanpai dinner salad was ok but then again very small. I thought the garlic noodles were pretty good but my dining partner didn’t like them. For the grilled items we ordered rib eye, just ok; shrimp, just ok; and the marinated pork belly that turned out to be excellent. We also ordered broccoli in oyster sauce that came in a foul pouch to grill. What a disappointment! It was an extremely small portion which was absolutely ridiculous. Barely enough for for a child. I figured I would be hungry so I ordered a side of steamed rice but it never came. Other Unilocal entries report the same. I’ll go back to Kanpai but I’m going to wait until they have worked things out. The problem is, I’m not sure those portions are going to grow. If you’re hungry you might want to go somewhere else. $ 55 for two with tip.

good food service pretty good. Different experience cooking your own meat. Definitely worth trying, better than same old boring asian food.

Went there last Saturday night during their soft opening with a group of 5 and we decided to try about 7 of the meats they had on the a la carte menu. They tried telling us it would be too expensive and we should go for the family platters instead but we knew what we wanted and it felt really awkward in front of our friends trying to convince our waitress that we could afford their overpriced food. They brought out the food which tasted good for the most part, but they forgot the rice we ordered, and they only brought out 5 of the 7 meats we wrote down for them. The waitress didn’t really pay attention to the table and we were thirsty most of the time. She also seemed really nervous but we tried being polite and making things easier on her. They tried up charging us at checkout by doubling the amount of rice on our ticket– to the tune of an extra $ 20… Yea. Total bill was over $ 150 which would have been cool if we didn’t all have to go back to the apartment after first pigging out at McDonald’s down the street lol. I feel like the(manager?- guy in the tie with the beard) did a great job of filling in when the waitress messed up. He was even the one who brought us our refills. When we were getting ready to leave we heard the manager welcoming the table next to us and telling them about the cool Japanese tables and about the culture and tradition of the style of dinning– that was the experience we were hoping for, but in my experience I think they only reserved that kind of service for a certain type of clientele. If you are hard working younger generation just looking to have a good time with friends, I wouldn’t be surprised if they just kind of tend to the older generation around you while you figure out how to eat. The manager(I am assuming) was honestly the only saving grace that helps this review– and the food was okay, but too overpriced for the size. Not filling at all.

What’s this?! Another Asian themed spot in TyTex?! I had no idea what to expect walking in. Turns out this place is Japanese BBQ. Ive experienced similar but it was Korean. Come try this out when you are feeling adventurous. Would be a great date spot. Do not come here if you are TEXAS hungry. You will cook your own meat at your table. Very small portions of varying beefs porks and seafoods. They do serve alcohol. I partook in the local Rose City Pale Ale. service was great but not a lot for them to do. Let me think about why I’m not giving 5 stars. Could be the meat quality. Ya, the meat quality was just ok.
