This place sucks end of story!!! If it had a rating for zero stars then I would give it that!!! If you can go else where for breakfast. This place is disgusting gross and unkept and the food taste nasty of dirty oil.

Wafting scent of sugar & grease comes full circle upon first bite. The cake doughnut is heavy and lightly glazed. Flavor of the cake overwhelmed by the oil. Peanuts offer nice contrast in texture. Apple fritter is saturated in oil. Custard doughnut is overly doughy. If you have never had a quality donut — enjoy.(4 kids under 10 didn’t finish; didn’t want seconds)

First off, I’d like to preface this review with the statement that I am not a huge doughnut guy. It isn’t a semi-mythical, must have experience for me. My doughnut standard was set by growing up in the South near a Krispy Kreme doughnut store. There are two types of doughtnuts in my worldview: glazed, moist doughnuts that melt in your mouth like a stick of butter or dry, shitty doughnuts that suck the moisture out of your mouth and make you regret that you’d spent hard earned money on them. This doughnut place has put a new doughnut caste into place: non-glazed doughnuts that are pretty great. This is my third time being stationed in 29 Palms and each time I’d heard from locals how good The Jelly Doughnut was and I finally decided to try it this Saturday morning. The place is a little run down and shabby looking — but that is just a byproduct of being located in 29 Palms. Look at most other resteraunts in 29 Palms and you’ll see the same: Dennys, Foster’s Freeze, the Carousel, etc. The staff was pretty awesome, bright and cheerful and quick to help and suggest if you’re stuck. One of the better customer service experiences I have had out here in the high desert. There is a 75 cent surcharge for debit/credit card purchases, which I usually abhore. However, I understand that it is a necessity in a low traffic area where your average sale is probably $ 3 and you as a merchant have to pay a fee every time someone uses a credit card. I got a white, powdered doughtnut with lemon filling and a doughnut with chocolate icing and chocolate sprinkles, as well as their date shake. The lemon filled doughnut had just the right mix of filling to doughnut — not too much filling, not too little filling. The powder wasn’t overdone or too sweet. The doughnut was moist and tasty. The chocolate iced doughnut was not dry and the icing tasted great and it was the first non-glazed that I have ever liked. I also got a date shake for my wife but apparently she doesn’t like dates so I had it. It was pretty awesome, although I didn’t think I would like it before I tasted. Sweet, almost chocolaty with a little nutty maple? It definitely was good. If you can free your mind from the dingy appearance stop in for some good doughnut love. Not Krispy Kreme by any means, but a good, hole in the wall doughnut store.

If I could give this shop zero stars, I would. The owner Rose ripped me off. When I asked for the proper change she refused to give it back to me. I would never go back to this place unless you want someone to steal from you. And if that wasn’t bad enough, the ten dollar donut that I bought was greasy and stale. If I were you I would not waste my time or money on the Jelly Donut

This was by far my WORST donut experience ever! The service was bad. The man did not greet me when he, after several minutes of me waiting, came in from outside. He didn’t even give me the total; made me read it off the register myself. No smile. no Thank you… The first donut I tried was an «Old Fashioned». It tasted awful! Greasy, very greasy, with no sweet redeeming value. I ate a couple bites and threw it away. I actually had to chew some gum to get that awful taste out of my mouth. The regular glazed donut was not much better. I had gotten a dozen donuts for a meeting at work(at 6:30am), thinking they would be fresh and yummy, but I was so disappointed! And I was so embarrassed to serve such unacceptable snacks for our meeting! I did call and let the«manager» or owner know on 9÷11÷2014, so I really hope they take some action. She seemed to be concerned, and said she would talk to the guy that was working on 9÷10÷2014 in the morning.

One star for the friendly lady behind the counter at 9 am and one star for the only donut shop in town… I think…3 stars lost for sad, broke down, dirty place that is «The Jelly Donut.» Visiting family in 29 Palms, I decided to treat the grandkids to donuts. Let me add that I grew up in a donut shop setting as my parents owned one of the most popular donuts shops in San Diego. It was that way because my father cared deeply about what his product looked like, tasted like and that our shop was spotless. So, like the other reviewer said, the donuts do taste as though they are fried in old, unfiltered grease and they were some of the smallest and palest poor little things I’ve ever seen. In the entire showcase there was a total of maybe six dozen donuts and the empty, dirty trays were still in the window… my dad would’ve kicked our ass if we had let that happen. The building itself was a wreck, dirty, unkempt and abandoned looking… if this is the only game in town, then why in God’s name do they not at least try to keep it up? Even with halfway decent donuts you could do very well, even if only on the weekends.

The hours in this place are pretty odd, sometimes they are open by 5:20, sometimes not till 5:45– if I drove by and it was open, I’d grab 2 dozen donuts to take to my co-workers. Good, hot donuts are always a welcome, rare treat. The guy that works here is really nice too. His card reader was down and he just let me take the donuts and drop the money off the next morning. He always threw in a few extra donuts for me, too. Nice place. Not an every day thing, but once or twice a month, definitely a place worth stopping at.

For this being in the middle of nowhere I guess it’s a good place to get dough-nuts… well actually. no ! not really but what can the locals expect when half of them haven’t had the chance to experience good food or desserts? Their«selection» was very limited and you can taste the fact that they reuse old stale oils to fry their dough-nuts and bear claws. but their Apple Fritters were decent. I’ll give them that much as it’s pretty hard to screw up apple fritter. I’m sure this place had it’s hay day some time long ago but those days of old are long gone I assume. or maybe I just so happened to drop by here on the three separate days were I had this experience. maybe there’s a trick or a secret squirrel time to get freshly baked or fried dough-nuts but I must have somehow missed them all.

I like this place. I really try not to give into my donut cravings too often but I some times can’t help it. If I’m going to eat donuts in the desert I only enjoy the finest… Jelly Donuts in 29 Palms. The donuts are so fluffy and delicious!
