Small little whole in the wall restaurant with pretty good food! For 29 Palms, their sushi is pretty darn good. I always get the deluxe eel roll which comes at about $ 10. I also get their spicy beef bulgogi– the portion is pretty sizable and it also comes with a small side salad and soup. I always do take-out because the place itself is very tiny. Overall, it’s a great little local spot.

Went last minute with the boyfriend on a Saturday night. We both got the Taco Rice, it was alright. Friendly staff. Will come back and try something new.

My mom and I were on a mission. To find a weird place we had never been before in this desert. Well, we found it. The service was delightful, the atmosphere a little bizarre, the people watching great. We had the chicken barbecue, soup and salad. Nothing special. But the chicken yakisorba noodles were pretty darn good. Very fresh. Hot saki was nice. Will definitely be coming back to this hole in the wall dive to try beef bulgoki next time!

First stopped here a year ago and was impressed… our second visit was not as good. The menus were grungy and the swinging half door to the kitchen needs a good scrub.(My theory is, the back kitchen is never going to be as clean as the front public areas.) The tempura fish was not like a tempura batter at all: possibly it was panko’d(is that a word?) but it looked and tasted like any frozen fish entrée by van de kamps. The yakisoba was good, not great. The miso, the salad, the California roll… all were just ok. I look forward to any Japanese dish being lovely to look at and exquisitely garnished: nothing here was even cut up nicely(the yakisoba vegetables, the sushi roll, the tofu in the miso, the fish). Left feeling sort of blue, really. Slow service and cramped quarters are part of the fun when you’re getting something wonderful; just kind of annoying when the food isn’t very good. Sorry!

I came here when they first opened in 1996 before leaving for Okinawa, Japan and was so happy to see it still open when I returned to 29 nearly 10 years later. Never had a bad dinner here and enjoy having their sushi, yep sushi in the desert. They must have magical powers, because it’s fresh and legit sushi. Simple rolls that taste good. If you want a great Japanese meal, look no further.

Friendly staff and decent food but not the best in this desert! Service is really really SLOW! Order ahead to be safe if you are on your lunch break or in a hurry!

Not a terrible place for the middle of the desert, but it’s not worth the price. If it were slightly cheaper, this place would be surely be packed.

I’m a weird fan of this place. The restaurant is gross inside and the place looks like its falling apart, but the food is traditional and exceptional. I eat here all the time when I’m visiting the high desert. Do not be fooled by the outside… and inside for that matter. If management put a little money into getting a new place they’d make twice as much money. All the excellent reviews are right.

Not going to lie; looking at it from the outside I thought I would get food poisoning because of how small it is. But a friend recommended it and so I agreed to try it. The Shrimp Tempura is a great appetizer, and the Beef Bul Go Ki dinner was phenomenal. Everything was well seasoned and the Japanese salad dressing tastes like it’s made in house. I will definitely be going back for more.

Sushi is passable and limited selection, but it’s 29 palms. I enjoyed the taco rice and yakisoba. Almost* the same as what you get in Okinawa, but not quite. Four stars because it’s friendly, fast, fresh, and close. Also gives me the nostalgia of being a boot out in Chatan town, stumbling into a food stand…

First of all, it was a little hard finding this place because it needs new signage. It helps that it’s located on the corner though. Also, the side parking is a little weird with spots lined up how they are along the wall where the bathrooms are(bathrooms are outside of the restaurant). The food and service are great. Prompt and courteous servers. The bulgogi is a huge order that I couldn’t finish by myself. The beef teriyaki is done well without any overpowering, commercial teriyaki sauce. I would come here again and do recommend it if you’re in the area. The menu has a lot of good options.

The service is fast and everyone there is very friendly. It has a homey feel to it and the price is right. My favorite dishes there are the beef fried rice, ask for it to be spicy, and the spicy tuna tempura. Their secret recipe for the teriyaki sauce is what keeps me coming back and the creamer angels has my hubby drooling.

I love their veggie yakisoba here! It’s bomb diggity and the price was reasonable except for the rolls, they’re a bit pricey but oh their hot green tea is also bomb dot com!

My husband and I went here for dinner and absolutely LOVED it! It was small but the service was super fast, the employees were very friendly and informative. The small area felt more homie then a usual Chinese/Asian place. The prices weren’t bad for the amount of food you get either! We’ll be coming back(:

The rice dish I had was tasty but average. The sushi rolls were phenomenal though, and worth the trip. I will come here again.

Although this place is a Japanese restaurant, it’s run by Korean people, meaning that not only Japanese food but also Korean food is above average. As I’m from Korea, I usually find many Asian restaurants somewhat overrated a bit in Unilocal by westerners, but this place is not. I had miso soup, bulgoki(house special), udon noodle, and a couple of rolls, all of which I can recommend for sure.

For the area, the best Asian food and sushi. The cozy, small dining area comes with six crunched in tables and a kitchen bar stool setup. The waitresses are a authentic Korean/Japanese mix and are quick to get you your order. The sushi is a small selection but covers most of the essentials. It is also prepared simple without the bells and whistles-nice for a change no extra obstacles you have to maneuver to get to the goods. My wife and I have tried multiple dishes from the kitchen: bulgogi, teriyaki chicken, combo fried rice, udon and yakisoba. Almost every dish came with a helping sized mite than expected and a non-overpowering taste, close to authentic, with a generous amount of delicious veggies. We like this place for an easy, quick place and you should too.
