The Black Marlin has great seafood! The shrimp po-boy and BBQ is off the hook. I had the chili for the first time two weeks ago, and now I am addicted. Super garlic bread also. Yum.

This place has amazing food. You can go for the seafood or course, but I think the steak and ribs are just as great. They also have a super lunch menu with I believe it’s a cranberry bread grilled cheese… so good. I hear the breakfast burritos are to die for but I don’t eat that early BTW, The best bar/lounge staff in OC with great live music 4 or 5 nights a week.

I love Tustin and had been hearing about the Black Marlin since they took over the old Tustin Garage. I was a little put off by the hostess asking if we had a reservation when it was obvious they had plenty of room(on a Tuesday night), but she quickly explained she was asking so she could cross us off the list. Once seated on the patio, the waitress came by and took our drink order. Cocktails served were great. The wine, a chardonnay was perfectly chilled. The order was taken in an unhurried manner, the way I like. I ordered a wedge salad and was given the option of having it chopped. Be careful, I suspect they add more dressing that way. In any case, it was delicious. The same could be said for the New York steak. Ordered rare, it came rare. Good(but not great) flavor, it could’ve stood some aging. The waitress was pushing the adjunct sauces. They probably would have helped but I suggest a better aging process and do away with the sauces. A good steak should be able to stand on its own. Paired with a nice roasted potato and broccoli though, made for a nice meal that I felt satiated but not stuffed. The family had seafood. My wife had Dover Sole, my daughter had Salmon and my Father in Law had Filet Mignon and Lobster tail. All were happy with their selections. For dessert, I suggest the cemé brulee, in whatever the chef’s flavor of the night might be. For us, it was rum. Delicately laced, the crust could have been a tad thicker but the custard made up for it. The best I’ve had in a long time. My wife had the key lime pie which was also excellent. Service was very good except for ONEMAJORFLAW. I emphasize that because poor service is a pet peeve of mine. They brought our entrée’ before clearing our salad plates. Poor timing or are they in a hurry to get rid of us? When I am paying upwards of $ 200 for a dinner, I expect to be treated as if there is all the time in the world. The server should too. Otherwise, why not just go to a fast food joint? In all other aspects, the server was courteous and attentive. Overall, food was great, service was adequate(except for the faux pas) and we definitely recommend the Black Marlin for a great meal.

Loved the trout with risotto. Our server(I think her name is Kim) was so nice & friendly! I have no clue what the big deal is about the donut dessert… so over priced too.

The Black Marlin was my fathers favorite restaurant. He passed away this summer. I’m new to Unilocal but I wanted to thank the Black Marlin for accommodating my family and making the last Fathers Day with my dad extremely special. They went above and beyond. Plus the food/atmosphere and live bands are fantastic!

The Black Marlin Bar & Seafood Grill serves great blackened catfish, steaks, and yummy drinks! The servers are very knowledgeable and patient with explaining about the menu, which can be a bit overwhelming at first because it is so extensive. The Black Marlin also hosts some really good local bands. So, if you enjoy live entertainment in Orange County, check out this place. Even if you just are coming for drinks, this place is a cool place to hang out, enjoy the music, and imbibe. I highly recommend the Irish Lasses, which are a mix of vodka, pomegranate juice, and freshly squeezed grapefruit juice. Enjoy!

Old Town Tustin is a laid back community that has several mom and pop shops as well as great eateries. During many of our trips to the area, we’ve always been curious about The Black Marlin. We’ve driven by here on several occasions and wondered why there seemed to be a lot of people sauntering around in front of the building. Fortunately for us, we found out why so many people frequent this location. The Black Marlin is located on the corner of El Camino Real and Sixth Street. You can’t miss the restaurant as it has a large black marlin statue perched above the open doorway. Just above the statue are the words, «Tustin Garage». I was curious as to why there was a reference to a garage but as you walk toward the front of the restaurant, the doorway looks like a garage door that has been rolled up. Initially we thought we’d have to wait a while to be seated because several people were standing near the entrance. Some were sitting on some cowhide seats that were placed along the curbside for people that wanted to get comfortable. Our hostess informed us that there was seating inside but a local band was going to be taking the stage soon. Apparently, the music was going to be unbearably loud and would detract from a romantic dining experience. So she suggested that we dine on the patio underneath the heaters. The patio is somewhat enclosed and we were tucked away in a corner away from the wind. The heater was actually more powerful than we had anticipated so we were very comfortable as we dined. Since seafood is something that I enjoy more than anything, I had high hopes for The Black Marlin. The menu seemed overwhelming as I couldn’t decide which which meal I wanted to order. I was told that catfish is their most popular fish so I chose to have it prepared blackened. Even though the meal came with mashed potatoes, I really wanted a side of risotto instead. There was an extra charge of $ 2.95 for the risotto but that didn’t phase me as long as it was good! While we waited for our food to arrive, the band hit the stage. Now I know why there seems to be a lot of people hanging out at this restaurant. The band was good and I caught myself bopping along to the beat too. When the door to the restaurant flung open, I realized why we were seated on the patio. The music was so loud and my ears hurt a little. Apparently, The Black Marlin is well-known for its live entertainment. They advertise online for local bands that are set to play there on certain nights. This place is awesome!!! Our food arrived within 15 minutes and we were eager to see why this place was so popular. First of all, the risotto was visually appealing with a creamy texture and green onions. Each bite had a cheesy, buttery flavor and it almost melted in my mouth. Honestly, this was the best risotto that I’ve ever had. The catfish was blackened with Cajun spice. It wasn’t too spicy and had a mild kick to it which is something that I favor. The lemon on my plate was placed in a mesh that acted as a barrier to prevent seeds from escaping as I squeezed out lemon juice. The Black Marlin is a high-energy restaurant with a menu to please people who have a diet that consists of a lot of seafood. There are also have steaks for people who are looking for something a bit heavy. I like that The Black Marlin is a location that comes across as a neighborhood hotspot. Not only is their food amazing but the overall vibe that is given off just brings out a certain amount of energy among their patrons. I’m glad that we finally had an opportunity to stop by for dinner. It’s hard to find a good restaurant at the last minute but I can now see why they were voted as OC’s best seafood restaurant of 2015.

Guess who got the Best of Orange County 2015 Seafood Award?! Its this place. After bookmarking this exciting establishment many, many month ago and following along on social media, I am glad that it made an impact on my girlfriend and I to come back for more. It felt like I have been there, but never in-person. If you haven’t experience this type of spot, then head on over to a retrofitted garage for some great food and music at the Black Marlin Bar & Seafood Grill in Old Town Tustin. We hadn’t planned on going to the Black Marlin, but I am glad this was a spontaneous visit. Its the moment when you least expect it that has the most memorable impression. Located in the heart of Old Town Tustin on the northwest corner of El Camino Real and 6th St. You cannot miss it because it looks like an old car garage with a Black Marlin statue hanging above the entrance. There is plenty of parking in the Jamestown Village or you can park on the street. When my girlfriend and I were walking to the front entrance of the Black Marlin, we noticed a lot of patrons sitting outside on the bench and couches. Yup, there are some cool recliners outside. We thought, «Uh Oh, they must be busy!» We didn’t realize that there was a live band playing, but were taking a break. When we asked if there was seating, there were plenty of seating available. We chose to sit at the outdoor patio because we knew that the live bands would sing their hearts out. Since it was very chilly, we were very happy that they had ceiling mounted heaters! Yes, THANKYOUBLACKMARLIN! We can enjoy the music, the food, and some HEAT! As we sat down, we noticed the place mats. They were made out of leather or a synthetic-type with the Black Marlin logo. Just by looking at it, the Black Marlin is dedicated to fantastic service. The Black Marlin has many various Happy Hour offers and a list of music performers that attend the Black Marlin. The main stars are the host/hostess. Our hostess was wonderful from the beginning to the end. She was very informative about customizing my girlfriend’s dinner selections. We saw a great selection of seafood, entrees, and beverages. We both ordered two lemonades($ 3.50 each). My girlfriend had a custom order, but nonetheless was going to be a perfect order. She had many questions, but our hostess was just wonderful. She ordered the Blackened Catfish($ 18.95) with a custom side order of Risotto($ 2.95 extra). I had my favorite kind of salad, the cobb salad. However, I had the Neptune Cobb Salad($ 18.75). A twist from our normal cobb salad. If you check-in at The Black Marlin, you get a $ 3 discount off their famous appetizer, the Garlic Cheese Bread. We decided to opt out, but we were going to have a grand meal anyways. While we waited, the atmosphere was both energetic and calm at the same time. We are hearing many music genres in the main dining hall to an intimate experience with your close ones. There were also two flat panel monitors on the walls to watch the games. Plus, there were some cool decal of, what I believe are, Harley replicas. There were a lot of people inside having fun and having more than they thought they were going to drink. A lot of them just walked out and sat at the recliners while the band took a break. A lot of people just having fun. Since the Black Marlin is in Old Town Tustin, you don’t see that many cars drive by and made this spot a HOTSPOT scene. Another host brought our food and the food look beyond what we had expected. The plating of the food was extremely beyond beautiful. I loved that the asparagus was chopped up versus left whole. My girlfriend noticed the little chopped up corn. That is always cute to see that. The diced tomatoes were sweet and delicious. I had asked for extra Louie dressing, but they kitchen staff did it well with it already mixed in. I guess I can’t think this isn’t any ordinary restaurant. Of course, what else does my Neptune Cobb salad contain? It has multiple pieces of scallops, 4 shrimps, and a large piece of salmon. My mouth was watering before, during, and after the meal was over. Even my girlfriend’s catfish was truly cooked to perfection. How can Black Marlin not be open 24⁄7?! The Black Marlin is a place in Tustin that I consider to be a hidden gem in Orange County. Who turns a garage into a restaurant?! I mean, it may not have been a garage, but it sure does look like a great match in Old Town Tustin. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if The Black Marlin has received some awards from the Tustin Mayor. Its a great environment for everyone and I didn’t feel like I was just another number. I felt like The Black Marlin is a big success for the community and all of Orange County. Unilocal…My passion is not to write my reviews, but to share my experiences with you. Take that journey and share your story.

We were regulars at Quinn’s when John was running it and have migrated over to his new endeavor, The Black Marlin. We have eaten at the Marlin several times and the food and service are always excellent. Staff is friendly and we know most of them by name. The ambiance has a community feel to it and there is a strong following among the locals. The bar is nice and there are plenty of TVs to watch sports. Live music is fantastic and drink selections are good. I wish there were more options for those of us that are not fish fans, but there are still some great choices. I love the steaks, the chicken piccata and the cesar salad. I love the desserts, but was disappointed to learn they no longer have the lemon cake. The Marlin is a busy place and gets packed so I recommend reservations during peak times and holidays.

We have not eaten here, but we love the bar. We walked in while we waited for Honda-Ya(next door) to open, and had two Irish Lasses(fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, pomegranate juice, and vodka — saints and angels it’s good). Dee was our bartender, and she’s awesome. Seriously. Go get an Irish Lass from Dee. You won’t regret it. They have live music some nights and apparently an amazing brunch on Sundays. We gotta go back and try it.

My parents and I stopped in here last night, and it was fantastic. It was my first time there for I’m not a big lover of seafood. The only reason I’m not putting 5 stars is because I thought there could be a fewwww more options for non-seafood folk, but don’t let that deter you, there are still some good options! I actually had the halibut since it’s one of the only types of fish I like, and it was cooked to perfection! I got it without the macadamia crust and it was still delish. The mashed potatoes were moist and so yummy, and the veggies also verrrry good. My dad ordered the shrimp pesto(which I also had a bite of) and that was amazing as well! I want to leave a special, 5 star note for the service. We had Katie as our server, and she was so attentive and friendly. My father order a couple martinis, and after sipping half of his drink, she would switch out the glass for a chilled one. We were very impressed by that. When a plate was finished, it was gone. Refills were on point. We never had to worry about missing silverware or an extra plate for dessert/apps/entrée. As a server myself, I always look for those things. Also, live music was great! It was a great evening to spend with the family. Definitely want to come back here again.

I had a great experience at The Black Marlin today. I met two colleagues for a business lunch today and was greeted by one of the nicest smiles and personalities I have met in a while belonging to Maggie. She was so courteous and attentive to us throughout our business lunch it made our entire experience first class. I had the Neptune Salad which was layered with plenty of Seafood. My colleagues had the Halibut Fish and Chips and the other had a Southwestern Salad; both were very pleased. I liked the garlic bread as well. Although I am in San Diego, I go to Orange County every so often and this will be a go to spot for me in the future. I understand they have live music as well so I look forward to the opportunity to stop by after work for a cocktail, music and relaxation. Cheers!

I’m from out of the area, and I thoroughly enjoyed my solo lunch here today. The salmon fillet was cooked perfectly, and so were the roasted potatoes and al dente roasted vegetables. Tom, my server, was friendly and so was the manager, Kimberly. I enjoyed the atmosphere as well… nicely decorated, clean, not too noisy. Casual elegance, yet relaxed. I could tell this is a popular lunch spot with the locals. I love this place and can’t wait to come back with Hubby!

I’m here at the black Marlin. Had a fantastic brunch. Meet really cool people and then all a sudden Dee the Bartender starts harassing me over a Half dollar that I decided to pull out. She literally got aggressive & rude over this coin & attempted to have me removed from the establishment. Not a single guest stuck up for me. No one told her she was over reacting, & furthermore they justified her actions by making me out to be the«bad guy» . I can’t believe it… I’m being harassed over a Half dollar right now?!? 5 stars for the food and service, but if you are looking for cool people & @ positive vibe I would not recommend this establishment. The manager came up and suggested I leave and return another day, but frankly I will not return. I want to surround myself with people who have a good moral compass and who will stick up for the person who is treated unfairly… unfortunately there was no such person there.

Came here for a brief work lunch, and it’s the first time I’ve been since the BBQ place closed. It looks great! The area where you used to order at the counter is now just a waitress area for picking up food from the kitchen which you can see into and I found that area a little awkward and narrow, but the rest of the restaurant is very nicely done. We came around 12:30 and it was packed. Lots of TVs for sports so it can get a little noisy. We were seated right away and I can tell you the first thing I noticed was that the service has improved greatly since the BBQ days. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The menu has a little of everything, lots of fish of course, but they also had big salads, sandwiches and pastas. Three of my co-workers ordered iced tea which I guess had been freshly brewed, but it was cloudy and very bitter. The waitress returned them with no issue, but why would you even serve something that looked that way in the first place? Two different employees explained to us WHY the tea was cloudy… we don’t care why, just don’t serve us something that looks like that! I ordered the Ahi which was very generously portioned, fresh and nicely seared. It said it was served with an Asian Slaw and Snap Peas. The Snap Peas were roasted and delicious, and the slaw was good, but it was the tiniest portion ever. I kid you not, like one heaping tablespoon of slaw. For the price, they need to adjust the portion on this. My other coworkers had the fish tacos, clam chowder, Caesar salad and the salmon and they all enjoyed it. I would maybe come back here for a work lunch, but probably not on my own and I wouldn’t necessarily make a point to recommend it, but the service was good and the food was average, just needs a little improvement.

I was planning to visit Quinn’s Old town grill as usual, but they are closed for good!!! So I crossed the road and visit Black Marlin for the first time, and it was not a bad experience. One of the waitresses used to work for Quinn’s working here now… It made the visit more pleasurable. Their clam chowder is good, in fact very good, a must try item. We ordered an ahi poke, very fresh, so was the ahi tuna steak.
