Easily one of the cutest sushi places I’ve ever been to. Sure, this isn’t my go to place when it comes to sushi, but it is my go to place when I want a good deal on great food! For $ 7.99, you can get a three item lunch combo! The specified foods are amazing(poki bowl!!) and it comes with miso soup or a salad with your preferred dressing. It’s a great option if you’re in the mood for authentic Japanese food but don’t want to spend too much.

This place isn’t the best sushi joint around. It’s small, probably seats 36 or so. Drinks are served in to go cups. They don’t offer refills. I asked for a fork since I don’t do chopsticks they bring a plastic fork. I got the three item lunch. Orange chicken, egg rolls, spicy tuna hand roll were my choices. I also got chicken fried rice. I have yet to find spicy tuna that is actually spicy. The orange chicken didn’t have much flavor and the egg rolls were bland. The rice was only so so. I finished my three items and was about 90% through the rice when they brought teriyaki sauce, and some other sauce. Service was slow but they are quick to take your money. So sorry, I no be back.

I really enjoy coming here. I know the name is a chain but this particular small business is amazing. They are sweet, attentive and their food is delicious and affordable. Their poke bowl is perfect. I’ve been to countless poke places and I can’t seem to get the right sauce mixed up to make it taste like this Maki Yaki!

Maki yaki going up, on a tuesday. Had sashimi 4piece with iced tea. Really good light meal. It felt like a got a piece of the culture as well. I think because the setting is small, peaceful, quiet, and the lady taking orders was genuinely kind. The music in background put me at ease as well. I was on my way out without even saying thank you after my meal, when the lady said thank you and gave me a bow. It was nice to recieve that kind gesture, just don’t see that in sushi restaurants often. I’ll be back like the terminator to try more food and relax. Thanks

The reason why I wanted to go there because I passed by this place a couple times after driving home from work. The lady is nice but her problem was that she does not understand my complaints and comprehend English very well. Anyways, I ordered two spicy tunas and a crunch roll. First, I changed my mind saying that I want to cancel one of the spicy tunas but she said that she can’t because it was in process of being finished. Second, the menu says that it includes avocado so I told her not to put it inside the rolls. When it was served, the avocados were included and then I told her that she gave me the wrong order. She kept hesitating and repeating«do you still want it?» Of course not! I need a new roll of those two! Then, here comes more trouble. She brought back the new rolls with cucumbers. Oh my goodness… I had enough about complaining so I just took all of them out and ate the sushi. I’m completely frustrated about my whole experience. Two more problems are that the rolls came out to be less than 8 pieces and the server doesn’t regularly go around asking if everything was okay. This is not the worst sushi spot I have ever been to yet so good luck Maki Yaki!

The sushi here is okay, I have been here a couple of times and the sashimi does not always taste fresh. I gave 4 stars because sometimes I just want something quick and filling for lunch and Maki Yaki has sushi for a decent price. The waitress is attentive and I have always received great service here.

The poke bowl here is absolutely amazing! I find myself getting lunch here about once or twice a month. During my last visit, I ordered a 3 item lunch combo for about $ 8. I ordered a half tuna roll, the jalapeño bomb, and the POKEBOWL. The tuna roll was good. It was pretty fresh but nothing out of this world. The jalapeño bomb was delicious. It’s 2 giant halves of jalapeño filled with tuna and cream cheese then deep fried with a delicious mayo sauce on top. The Poke Bowl is why I love this place. The sauce is the perfect blend of sweet and spicy and it’s enough sauce to evenly coat every last bit of rice. YUM! I have tried many other poke bowls but non compares to this one. :D

Food is decent. You get a soup or salad with a choice of 2 or 3 items that you have 20 choices to choose from. My 1 star is for the lack of service. 1.) You walk in and if there is a table empty it’s dirty. I saw one lady sit at table waiting for it to be cleaned. We just stood and waited till she came and cleaned our table. 2.) Every time we come they only have one waitress, every time. We’ve been coming here for the last couple of years and ever since we’ve been coming it’s been only her. I will no longer come to this location. The owner needs to stop being cheap and hire another server. We waited 10 minutes before she got to us because she was serving other guests and cleaning tables :(again by herself. Never again Maki Yaki we’ll be taking our business elsewhere. It’s our lunch time and time is precious. We had to scarf our food down in a hurry since we didn’t want to be late to work and we all agreed we ate too fast and our stomach was really uncomfortable from probably not chewing correctly.

This place never disappoints in my opinion. I am a regular here, always get the Jessica roll. The staff is friendly and works quickly. I also order take out more often. The rewards card works great, you go a certain amount of times and you get a free roll of your choice. They also keep your card and have you write your name on it so they can display it. Cute idea.

I go to this restaurant often for my lunch break. Parking is self park. My boyfriend loves eating variety of foods. Because this place allows you to do 2 items or 3 items for both lunch and dinner, it is pretty nice. The portion of the food are not that big so it is nice to eat variety of food items at once and not feeling too full. I love their poki bowl. It is well marinated and tasty. Their chicken udon taste so good as well. There is only one server at the restaurant. The lady who works there is nice. Great customer service. Recommendations: makiyaki bowl, poki bowl, spicy chicken, katsu, chicken udon, crunch roll

Haven’t been here since 3 years ago but today I was filling like having some sushi !!! The salad is amazing with the dressing… Sushi is good too, but when you are super hungry and service is too slow.(It’s busy and it’s only one server) it’s not great !! If your having a Monday special you need to provide at least one more server !! Other than that maki yaki is great taste!

The wifey and I usually end up here at least once a month. I’m working toward a free Bento meal on their loyalty card program. Just one more dinner left till I get my free one! We usually get the 3 item combo for dinner which is a very good deal. My favorite item is the poki bowl, and I’ll usually pair that with the jalapeño bomb(it’s da bomb) and a crunch roll. It comes with a soup or salad and it’s under $ 9. It fills me up and I like to eat a lot. Bummer that they increased the prices recently on some of the items on their combo meal. Also sometimes service is slow when there are a lot of customers in the restaurant. Sometimes the tables aren’t cleared quickly. But that’s ok — it’s a good meal at a good price.

This is my go-to spot for good and cheap sushi. Not only is the server always kind and attentive, the food has yet to fail me. I almost always order the 3-item lunch/dinner option for $ 7-$ 10(depending on what you get). I almost always order the mini-Maki Yaki bowl, the 2 piece sushi, and the mini-Udon or the mini-Poke bowl. These come with either soup or salad. Not a bad deal for good food. Just be careful when heading there for a late lunch as they are now closed from 3pm-4:30pm for their break. I highly recommend Maki Yaki.

Really good and will definitely be back…3.5 stars. Small place in one of the many mini shopping centers on Newport Blvd. Inside there are plenty of tables to sit down, but it’s also self-explanatory enough to order at the little counter for to-go orders. They charge you fifty cents extra for to-go orders which is annoying and she kinda just slipped it in at the end rather than tell me about it ahead of time, but whatever… now I know. They have tons of rolls which are on the expensive side, but from what I tasted, high quality. They also have bento boxes, big salads(unusual for a Japanese place but they all looked fresh and delicious), chicken dishes, etc. The lunch special menu is pretty legit as well which is what I ordered. Two items for $ 6.99, three items for $ 7.99, etc. Plenty to choose from and they have a couple sections at the bottom where you can«upgrade» to different more specialty items for 0.50-$ 1.00. My three items were: the Jalapeño Bomb, tuna avocado roll(0.50 upgrade), and the mini poke bowl(also a 0.50 upgrade). My total came out to $ 10.99 so the add-ons well… add up. The jalapeño bomb was two giant jalapenos filled with spicy tuna and cream cheese and deep fried and topped with a delicious eel-like sauce… sooooo good. The tuna in the tuna avocado rolls was perfectly fresh and tasty and the mini poke bowl was absolutely perfect. I asked for a side of spicy mayo and I’m glad I did… their spicy mayo is totally different than other places who usually just mix sriracha with mayo… Maki’s version actually had masago mixed in with it! Loved it. I will definitely be back here to try more of the menu, but next time I might as well dine in and avoid their silly little fee, even if it is only fifty cents, it feels weird to be paying extra to NOT have dine-in service which is more work and dishes for them.

Although it’s a chain restaurant — it definitely has that«mom & pop» individuality feel. The Maki Yaki’s i’ve been to are ran by Koreans & this location is as well. Regardless, IMO the food items here are pretty good. This little establishment is clean & it’s a very casual dining spot. : FOOD : I usually come here to pick up lunch & get their 3 item lunch special. If you do pick up definitely call ahead otherwise expect a bit of a wait. Usually it’s only one gal who works the whole front. The following Items are my FAVS& portions are decent: — Spicy Beef or Chicken(lil oily but yummmm!!!) — Chicken Udon — Small Poki Bowl w/no rice(luv the poki here!) — Beef or Chicken Teriyaki — Sumi salad(love the dressing) : NOTES : 1) Pick up a stamp card & get a free bento(1 stamp per 3 item special) 2) No restrooms here(not that I recall seeing) 3) If you do take out do note they charge like 50 – 75 cents extra 4) Easy to find, right by the 5 freeway & it’s right next to Yogurtland 5) Closed on Sundays!
