This is more like a 2.5 rating, just to be generous. This is just not the sushi spot for me. I understand why it’s here – it has vinyl records for menus & really zing-y names for their sushi rolls. It totally appeals to college kids(and those who are too xenophobic to step foot in an actual sushi restaurant). But in the end I just want good sushi, and the only thing this place is serving up is style. The Green Day roll(which replaces rice by wrapping the fish in cucumber slices) looked like something from a 1950s cookbook. The portions were really small for the prices. Not of it was especially appetizing – not bad – but not great. I still prefer Hokkaido or Tokyo or even Ichiban before this spot, but if you’re looking for the Hard Rock Café of sushi joints or just want something different, I guess check out this spot. Just realize you’re paying for the atmosphere more than the food.

Very small portions for the price. Rude staff… I went in with an open mind but I left pissed off. This place does not deserve any more than one star.

Came to the restaurant for the first time and had a wonderful experience! Our server Parker was absolutely helpful and friendly! Will come see him again!

Don’t eat here at all! It’s a gimmicky sushi restaurant the quality of their fish pales in comparison to that of Surin which is right down the street. Surin’s sushi taste so much better and is much cheaper at happy hour. Rock n roll is corporate gimmick. Plus Surin has very well trained sushi chefs with over 5 years experience.

This place was awesome! Epic sushi and the who atmosphere was fantastic, I could even tell it would be great from the online menu. You have to stop here! I have the Green Day roll in the photo it was slightly hard to eat due to cucumber outside but so worth it!

Rock-N-Roll Sushi has become our go-to place for sushi in Tuscaloosa. The food is excellent. We both really enjoyed the Michael Jackson Roll. The Rock-N-Roll décor and old album cover menus are a nice touch. The owner is also really friendly, he spoke with us for probably 10 minutes while we were waiting.

Average at best. Left me suspiciously sick and a friend … We assume it was the sushi. The whole atmosphere screams«downtown Disney restaurant» meets hot topic with super high ceilings. The record menus are neat. Kinda pricy.

This was my first visit, and probably my last. I ordered eggrolls and one of their signature sushi rolls. The eggrolls reminded me of the Totino’s eggrolls I had as a kid — bland, tasteless, and straight out of the microwave. I pointed out that almost the entire menu involves shellfish, so the hostess recommended one of their signature dishes without crabmeat. I took her recommendation. BIGMISTAKE. The sushi came out a unappetizing mess, bland(again), and in no way satisfying. My bill was $ 20 plus tip and not worth it.

There were no other customers when my daughter and I walked in. It took 10 minutes for us to get our drinks then another 20 minutes for our food to get to the table. Our waitress stood around, talking to some guy behind the register. She never checked on us except for when we were done… even that took 20 minutes after us eating our food. By that time, there was one other table of 3 in the whole restaurant. But I digress… my daughter ordered egg rolls… they were good but the dipping sauce was the best. It was a sweet heat sauce. I ordered a custom eel roll which was okay. Didn’t have much eel in it… had more cucumber than anything. I re ordered some fried rice for her right after my roll came out because apparently the waitress didn’t hear me or write any of our order down when we said it in the first place. All of our food came out at different times. Like, her egg rolls came out then 10 minutes later my eel roll came out then 15 minutes after that her rice came out. It was ridiculous. We never got a refill on drinks. The blonde waitress dropped off our check which I looked it over and immediately placed my card inside. We sat there for 20 minutes waiting on her while she and a few other servers huddled around the register. By this time, I was irritated and my daughter was restless. I finally yelled across the room because she never even looked our way. I didn’t leave a very good tip like I normally do. The décor was cool but the food was mediocre and the service sucked. We WON’T be going back. Would give it 2 stars but I liked the rock theme so it got 3.

I was excited to try Rock N Roll Sushi because I’d heard great reviews. Unfortunately the food was terrible and waaay over priced. I would rate this place 1 star except for the incredible staff. I have never complained about food before but I had to here. It was that bad. And I told the manager I’d be happy to pay for the whole meal and only was telling her to let her know that since they just opened, if they wanted to be successful they needed to change something. But she gave me incredible service and made the whole meal free AND made me new sushi so I would enjoy it. I’ll definitely try it again because maybe it was just an off-day for the kitchen. But the restaurant is definitely a nice atmosphere and has great management

Great atmosphere, food & service! I’ve been a few times & Collin was our server. He’s very attentive, knowledgeable about the menu & personable. I’ve gone with friends & solo. We had one roll the first time I wasn’t so fond of, my fault for not reading it was hot! Regardless, Collin took care of it with no hassle. The manager is very nice & friendly as well. Hands down my new favorite place. I’m very picky and impressed with these guys! Presentation & value well worth it!

The sushi here is amazing, as is the seaweed salad. Cozy spot and I’m super happy to have this place right around the corner. The décor and theme is well put together. Several flat screens around so that you can catch up on your sports. All that’s missing is a live band!

The service was really quite terrible. A very chaotic feel to the staff in general. Seems like someone had a great vision for a hip sushi restaurant but ZERO idea how to train staff and run the business effectively. Food was very mediocre!

Just horrible. Was really excited when I saw them opening and couldn’t wait to try. The atmosphere is the best thing going for it. The wait when we went was 40 mins which was fine. After an hour they sat is. Our Waiter didn’t come over for 20mins and after we ordered our food didn’t show up for 30mins. The sushi was adequate at best. I could get better at my local market. Not worth the money or the time. I will retry it in a month to see if they got it together

The sushi was ok… I’ve had much better. The crab wontons with the headbanger sauce and the fried brownie with ice cream won me over.

I had 4 orders of sashimi with a ginger salad. The ginger salad was the best part. The sashimi was not good at all. They also had my salmon order wrong – they gave me smoke salmon instead. The slices were very thin and didn’t have much flavor. Some of the fish tasted old but that could be because the slices felt so, so thin. I couldn’t taste much of anything. The atmosphere is wonderful. I loved the arrangement and the set up. I think the sushi bar could’ve been utilized better but I think they’ll figure out the work flow over time. I want to give this place one more chance because its sister locations had such great reviews. Perhaps when they figure out their work flow, it’ll get better. But for now, the sashimi should be avoided.

For a new restaurant, you expect certain things to happen. Well, they did. I could tell that there was potential for this sushi bar to be something awesome, but right now there’s work that needs to be done. There was a sense that no one really knew what was going on. First waiter told us 30 minute wait for a table of 3, the next guy came up to us and sat us down. We had 4 different people tell us someone would get our drinks after already having ordered them. I know they were just trying to be nice but we got tired on them asking. I thought the wait was rather long for only 3 sushi rolls, close to 25 mins and there were only a handful of people eating. Another downside was that I left still feeling hungry, and the price was too much for another roll. All that being said. The food was good. I will go back in a couple of months to see if the operations have improved.

My friends and I tried this place out yesterday, a day or two after they opened. Their staff was friendly, helpful, and timely. We got the headbanger and boom boom shrimp as appetizers, both were very good. They have a vast assortment of speciality rolls, more than any other sushi place in town. They also have several classic sushi options that are cheaper and a little more simplistic than their speciality rolls. Their rolls are slightly overpriced, but considering the generous size and exceptional taste it is definitely worth it. Not sure what the previous commenter experienced that made them give only 2 stars, but I believe this could be the best new sushi restaurant in town, with by far the best and most extensive sushi menu.
