I am a steak snob and usually only like mine… I have friends call and ask me to make their steaks for them because they are better than most pricey steaks at upscale steakhouses. Knowing this, I was a little reluctant to eat a steak, but I have been with family for 2 weeks and was experiencing a steak withdrawal. Nicks is a cute little divey place located off the beaten path. When we pulled up, the sweet smell of beef on the grill hit my nose. It was like Heaven! When we went inside, there were a few tables available and we grabbed one. We both ordered the Ribeye and Onion Rings. The Onion Rings are truly amazing! They are hand battered in a light batter that has just the perfect crunch but doesn’t tear up the roof of your mouth. The steaks were very tasty as well. There was no seasoning on them, but they were cooked exactly as ordered. I added some salt, a little butter, and then did a happy dance as I ate. We were the last ones in the restaurant and talked with Nick about his travels. He is an awesome, down to earth guy. The atmosphere is relaxed, the food good and the prices great! Be sure to stop here if you get a chance.

Let me preface this by saying we waited almost 2 hours for a table, after working 8 hours and then driving from Atlanta to Tuscaloosa. Totally worth it! My girlfriend is an Alabama alumnus and after we bought our football tickets she said we had to go there once we got into Tuscaloosa. We arrived on a Friday night around 8:00 pm and the place was packed(parents weekend at the University). No worries, Courtney said they have a drink called the Nicodemus and are good. No, they are fantastic. Before long, I was sitting at the bar, talking to one of the managers(big nice guy, don’t listen to the reviews) and getting a nice buzz. After three, I decided to switch to high life, and enjoyed people watching until we got a table. The filet was bacon wrapped and cooked to a perfect med rare temp. For $ 12.00 that beats any other 5 star steakhouse. Seriously, bring me a better cooked steak for that price. Salad was great, company, great, great great great great! I can’t wait for our next Alabama game and meal here. My only regret was not going Saturday after Alabama beat Louisiana Monroe, or buying a Nicks In The Sticks t-shirt. Tl;DR — Drink a nicodemus, eat a steak here and all will be good in the world!

The wait after I had ordered was long. The fries tasted no better than the frozen ones I heat up in the oven. The catfish was real good! No sweet tea, only unsweet.

For a place that only holds about 30 people on a booming Saturday night and where the wait is usually about an hour to be seated this place is totally worth all the hassle. The steaks are absolutely awesome and you cannot beat the price. If you have to wait to be seated be sure to grab you a drink, also priced fairly, and relax outside. This steakhouse is hard to beat when it comes to taste and value. Expect to spend $ 30(Two steak dinners, and a couple of drinks).

Perfectly cooked steaks, affordably priced menu, and strong drinks. What more could you ask?

It’s not much to look at, but if you like mom and pop joints it’s pretty good. A simple steakhouse menu. Homemade salad dressing. Good priced steaks. T-bone is the best steak on the menu. The kids chicken nuggets are gross though, I didn’t blame the kids for not eating them.

Not impressed. I was trying to choose a steakhouse from the limited choices in the area. I always use Unilocal to help me choose. None of the restaurants have very many reviews around here. We did drive out of the way to eat here. I don’t mind small old restaurants because they usually have the best food. This one didnt. The menu is severely limited. I like mashed potatoes with my steaks. No mashed potatoes. You could get fries or baked potatoes. They might have had one more option. They had four different appetizers to choose from. Onion rings, wings, chicken livers or chicken gizzards. Not my thing. I chose the ribeye steak medium well for my dinner. My steak was not cooked medium well. It was still purplish and very squishy. It didnt taste seasoned to me. Just plain. It came with a small salad and baked potato. They serve pepsi products here. Overall my meal was not good. To me it was not worth the drive. Sorry!

Great little dive type place! Friendliest staff and excellent steaks! My only complaint it that they don’t have many salad dressing choices, however, when I asked the waiter if he had any Italian dressing he quickly brought me out a huge bottle of dressing. The nickodemus was a little too strong for me, so I stuck to some cold beer. It was tasty though and something I would’ve loved back in my college days! They also have a cash bar outside while you’re waiting for a table. We will be back!

Stopped here after reading reviews on Unilocal while visiting Tuscaloosa. Very friendly staff. Looks like mostly locals. We had to wait a few for a table because so busy. I had the small filet with baked potato. The steak was awesome, cooked just the way I ordered. Very tender and juicy. I would recommend Nicks in the Sticks if you are in Tuscaloosa.

Awesome little hole in the wall on the outskirts of Tuscaloosa. Steaks were great, the onion rings are for sure the best appetizer on the menu. Menu has other things I would like to go back and try. Great food for a really good price. Had the Nicodemus, it was pretty good not what I was expecting. The wait staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming.

I joined up with a friend in Shreveport for a road trip to Tuscaloosa, AL. For hours he kept telling me that we needed to get to town in time to eat at Nick’s in the Sticks. It was a grueling drive, but worth every mile. Granted, we came for other business as driving seven hours for dinner is just crazy. It may be crazy, but Nick’s knows how to make a steak. I enjoyed a succulent ribeye with onion rings. The onion rings were good, the steak was excellent, and the ambiance just whispers that you found a hidden gem. This establishment definitely flies under the radar as my friend was introduced to it a couple of years ago by a local. Next time I’m in town I don’t have to worry about what I’m going to eat for dinner.

As always, excellent service, steak cooked perfectly. Enjoyed Jimbo’s birthday dinner with Nancy, Laura, Steve, and Jimbo. Don’t get no better than that.

I had heard about this place for quite some time before I finally decided to go there a few months ago. When I arrived I had to take a double take because it was much smaller and older then I had imagined. When I went inside the owner was very friendly, seated me and it was very quaint with dollar bills taped to the ceiling. All I wanted was a nice simple piece of meat, salad and baked potato and I was glad to find it on the menu at a reasonable price. When my food arrived the steak was flavorful, actually done properly and not overcooked. The atmosphere was humble, the service was friendly and the food was good. If you’re looking for a place with a good simple menu and honest piece of meat, I would definitely recommend this place.

The filet was delicious and cooked like I ordered… salad was fresh and the blue cheese dressing was delicious… I ended up dipping everything from the whole meal in it. We also tried the fried shrimp and loved it. Waited an hour outside with a hundred people blowing smoke in my face while we waited but it was still worth it! ;)

It is in the sticks! And worth the drive to nowhere. Don’t expect white table cloths, a wine list and music in the background. This is a meat place in the woods. Small menu of steaks. I’ve spent $$$$ at steak restaurants in Atlanta but had a better meal with the four of us under $ 60 The only issue is can’t drink in the parking lot when there is a 3 hour wait. But I’m sure it’s a state things

Went to Nick’s after finding it on Unilocal. This place is very small so be ready for a long wait during peak times. I really enjoyed my meal and time at Nick’s. I was dining alone and had to wait about 45 minutes to get a table. I ordered a large bacon wrapped Filet cooked medium rare with onion rings instead of a baked potato for $ 11.95. The steak was very tasty, so much so that I didn’t even use steak sauce. The onion rings were great especially dipped in the Ranch/blue cheese dressing that came with the included salad. They serve 3 dressings with your salad — French, Thousand Island/Russian, and Ranch with Blue Cheese crumbles which was my favorite. Hint: When you’re done with your meal and ready to leave just go up to the counter to pay. Don’t wait for your server to bring you a check. They will not bring you one.

I remember home game days making the trip to «Nicks in the Sticks» and ordering the small filet and a Zombie at prices even a poor student could afford. None of the waiters ever wrote down your order but always remembered it perfectly. Whenever my father would come visit, he always insisted we eat here. It has been a while since I have been so I am glad to see it is still in business and doing as well as ever.
