I have grown up eating here, the nostalgia is real. It’s not a pretty building, but I love the chimichanga with double rice. Or the Sonoran enchilada, or really any of the enchilada’s. All so good! It’s hole in the wall style food, nothing gourmet, not quite authentic, but I am a fan! I think it’s all in the family friendly, easy going tex mex that keeps me going back!

I’ve eaten at Chimi’s for over 20 years and for the last several years at this location. Casual, relaxing atmosphere. Love the chips and salsa, their rice and all of the enchiladas, too. Not to forget they have great Rita’s on the rocks. The price is good for the quality and quantity. It has always been hot and fresh. You may notice a little wear and tear on some of the booths, but consider it a testament to its popularity with us locals.

Not the greatest service. Took 3 servers to get our drinks out. The chips tasted sort of stale, salsa tasted like it was out of a jar. I don’t believe it was but it wasn’t anything spectacular. I had the chili relleno, which was excellent. The beans were good, rice was very plain. My wife had the tamales which were not good at all, unfortunately. Very bland. Not bad prices for just decent food.

Our first time to eat here and it was great. Service was exceptional and the food was delicious. We had huge margaritas and ordered the special. We will definitely be back. Easy parking, good food and drink. What could be better?

went here with friends for the first time on the weekend. the food is good and the drink specials are great too! My friends usually go there for UFC fights on pay per view so it’s a good place to watch something and have plans for. Definitely a nice place to go with groups for a casual activity during the weekends. don’t get the queso though, it tastes like potato soup.

I have been going to Chimi’s since I was a child, and hadn’t been in a few years. I was disappointed that the chips had changed: no longer were they the huge chips we had in the past that were nice and warm: they were a cold small regular chip that you find at any other Mexican restaurant in town. So disappointing! The salsas were still good, and the Chimi had changed: it didn’t seem to be cooked the same(wasn’t quite as crispy fried – more soggy like a burrito) and didn’t have a big dollup of sour cream on top like they used to. It was still good, just disappointing. My main complaint, was the service was not good. We waited forever for our drinks, our appetizer, our meals, our dessert. We were there two hours(it took that long to bring out everything). Perhaps its just this 81st street location, because I’ve never had this problem at the Chimi’s on Cherry Street or 51st and Harvard. The room wasn’t even that busy and for some reason everything took forever. The food overall was great, but they really need to focus on hiring more servers here or speeding up the food delivery!

I just left a review on another one of their locations and realized I forgot to say how much I love the beans and rice, among many other things! Their rice has always been my favorite. Haven’t had anything like it anywhere else. Love the beans too and I am not usually huge on beans. They have a few different styles, but my favorites are the black beans and refried beans. I actually don’t think I have had the barracha beans but have heard they are delicious as well. I love all of the mexican food of course, but if you are ever in the mood for a burger try their California Burger. Holy crap its good! Just tried one a couple of weeks ago and really was one of the best burgers I’ve had. Oh and try the fish and chicken sandwich!
