Love this place! I went here once for breakfast and had a salmon omelette with mixed veggies and stuff. So freaking good! Service was really awesome too! So friendly! Try them if you have not yet! Grounds are gorgeous too!

I’m currently eating the brunch at this place, and I’m extremely disappointed in the quality of the food. The cocktail sauce is like tomato juice, all of the food is old in the hotel pans, and the a fruit tray and cheese tray are both empty. I would never come back, and I strongly recommend everyone else do the same.

Dinner at The Grill was disappointing. Previous meals there have been great. This time it was mediocre. The pre course appetizers were satisfying. Entrees were so disappointing. Peas n carrots entrée was few peas and no seasoning. Red Fish dish was unsatisfying. The deserts were excellent though. The staff did a great job and were attentive. The guitarist playing in the background was excellent. For the price paid, it’s gone off my list of restaurants.

Mother’s Day 2016 — Was there pretty early for dinner and they were not that busy. I ordered the NY Strip steak, Medium Well. When I got it, it was burnt BAD. I could hardly cut it as it was so charred on the top. The inside was totally dry and 100% gray. The waiter was even like«Woah yeah, that’s overcooked!». When I received my replacement, like 30+ minutes later the new steak was much thinner and cut in half(or something) horizontally. It was prepared better than the first, but lacked any luster or special flavor for a $ 50 plate. In the meantime, the honored guest, my lady patiently waited to eat her pork plate, which the waiter saw she was doing — and it got cold and rubbery, so it was not enjoyed as well. Here’s the kicker, when I received the bill, it has 2 of the steaks on it, and then 1 removed. They didn’t do anything for us, as I had to wait to eat as so did my lady and she didn’t enjoy it. A place with this big of a reputation(#6 overall in Tucson via TripAdvisor) and class, who noticed customers with a night ruining issue did nothing. No other bill adjustment, nothing else offered. I wrote them a nice note on the receipt. I even spoke to the valet and he was in shock and said«Things like that don’t happen here!»

This is my favorite place in Tucson … John is a knowledgeable sommelier with a knack for suggesting the perfect wine with any of the outstanding dishes offered by world class chefs. Lobster Ravioli is a must … and they must have about thirty five hundred wines to choose from. This is my go to place in Tucson; and they often have some mild live music such as piano or flamenco guitar.

I came here with my dad when he visited me at the U of A, and this is the best brunch we’ve ever had! The waiter never failed to fold our napkins when we got up to get more food, our glasses were ALWAYS full, and there was an assortment of seafood, pasta, mexican food, desserts and cheese on the cheese board. They also have an omelette and waffle station. Anything you might want for brunch is here! We also did not feel rushed out, and were able to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Santa Catalina Mountains. This is somewhere I will always take my family for a beautiful and delicious brunch.

We went(10) of us after a memorial service and had the most wonderful experience. It started with the reservation when I worked with the manager Laura. She immediately knew what set up and experience would work for us. In short the cocktails we shared on the private terrace prior to dinner, the AWESOME meal with superb spot on service were all terrific. Meals arrived and were presented in unison, and were delicious. The wines served by knowledgeable staff and reasonably priced. Charles the server for our group was just fabulous. Then to top it off, drinks and dessert in the beautiful garden area. I can’t thank Laura, Charles and team enough for the great dining and experience! I promise we will be back!

I surprised my GF for our three year anniversary on Feb 16 and brought her to the Grill for dinner. I got the reservation just before sunset and the sunset did not disappoint. The views from the windows are gorgeous and the staff allowed us to step outside onto the veranda which offered us better views and great photo ops. The server was prompt and friendly, the live guitar music was nice and everybody that worked there treated us extremely well. MYCOMPLAINTISAIMEDSOLELYATTHEKITCHEN. We allowed ourselves to splurge and ordered the octopus, lobster ravioli and a salad for appetizer. The lobster ravioli was good, but only came with three tiny pieces. They had cut the octopus in half for us, which was nice, but when the plate arrived my half was burnt and charred. I know this because my GFs looked completely different! I’m not one to complain at restaurants so I tried to eat it. The charred pieces literally started falling off in bunches, like ashes on my salad and plate. I took three bites and I couldn’t eat anymore. I told the server and he apologized and brought me another which was not burnt. Then for the entrée I ordered the chicken plate, for around $ 20, and it was fried chicken, laid out on some mashed potatoes with a green salad on the side. Now if it was good fried chicken I wouldn’t have been as upset, BUT it was dry, overcooked and I was unable to finish it. For the price points on this food, it NEEDS to be good NOT burnt. I’ve never had food this poorly prepared at that price. Now Tucson has some delicious food(as UNESCO has recognized), but this restaurant does not hold up to that standard especially for the price! So I;d recommend it for some drinks to see the beautiful premises and friendly staff but avoid the dinner. Get drinks, watch the sunset then go to one of the DOZENS of other delicious restaurants in Tucson.

It’s my mother-in-law’s favorite place and it was her birthday, which is what brought us here. After relaxing at the bar with happy hour drinks($ 5 sangria, certain wine, margarita, and other stuff) and utilizing the Unilocal check-in for free chips n salsa(score!) we headed to our table. All the in-laws ordered steaks, which looked delish. I ordered the frisee salad and hamachi as my entrée. The frisee tasted a little off to me, but the hamachi was top notch. The restaurant is nestles atop a hill with lovely views of a golf course. The setting is spectacular and definitely sets the tone for a lovely meal.

Made reservations for brunch for 6 people. The service started off good, however, went downhill thereafter. We asked for more water, the waitress treated us as if we were bothering her. She rarely came by our table to see if we needed anything and when we tried to flag her down, she ignored us. The food is okay, I’ve had better. Very unimpressed and I will not be going here again, nor will I recommend Hacienda Del Sol for dinner or brunch.

Party of four, anniversary dinner, 7pm. Seated on time, original greeting fine. Served water, bread then waited about forty minutes for further service. Our guest ordered a bottle of Resiling, us a glass of wine, took awhile to be served. Two Requested the starter of onion soup, waiter returned saying, none available. Dinner orders basically okay, my order scallops, I got three scallops and some small sides. A little expensive for three sea scallops and bread. Noise, terrible! Had to yell to be heard at our table. Overall, noise, slow service expensive for what you get forces me to not to return. Quite a difference from an earlier visit.

I was a recently invited guest with other friends for dinner at «The Hacienda», «…our most favorite restaurant» in Tucson. The ambiance of the restaurant, overall property, views and staff from the complimentary valet car park to Zelman the server were most friendly, informative and attentive. The«viands» offered on «The Grill» menu I assume are for those with a more than passing interest in «exceptional», cuisine, I imagine«The Grill» menu to be a gourmand’s delight, Suffice it to say I am not a gourmet and would have preferred«The Patio» selections. A tasteless Marguerita to start and I perused the menu deciding on the Caesar Salad as a starter with Blanquette of Pork Loin, $ 32.00, as my Entrée. Moderate priced and as I was one of several guests, thought it a courteous decision not to go for the Filet of Beef, $ 44.00. The other guests orders were taken and it became clear the Filet was the overall entrée of choice, so I changed to the Filet with fingerling potatoes and Spinach purée, but no mushrooms. I was told the Caesar salad really had anchovies in the dressing, so I changed to the«Warm Frisee Salad». For me not a good thing. My adjacent dinner guest was tasting their French Onion Soup and I asked, as a fan and maker of good Onion Soup«from scratch», how it was — I was told«it’s ok» as they put half of the unfinished soup aside. The Filet entrees arrived. All were from semi to well done. Interesting, as all but myself had a comment to the server, as it arrived different than requested. Mine was fine as I like steak cooked, but not rare. No mushrooms arrived, but neither did the spinach purée. Just thin sliced fingerling potatoes, a demi sauce and a filet. I said nothing, but thought something was missing, but did not remember what it was until looking at the online menu today, it would have been a nice addition. A $ 44.00 filet should be at least the size of your fist and this was no more than half that size. I do not have«Donald Trump» really large hands, but men’s average and was getting more and more interested in my dinner hosts comment that this«…was their most favorite restaurant». I know Tucson has better — it has to. It is unfortunate the staff does not offer a guest access to the Patio menu containing more«usual» restaurant faire. The background music provided by a talented guitarist, who sat at the entrance to the dining room, right behind me approximately 6 feet, played loud enough so I was unable to distinguish a majority of the table’s conversations. I commented as to the loudness of the music to the host, when I was unable to hear their question to me, and was told host with the«…most favorite comment», that I had obviously poor hearing and should have it immediately checked. I now know never to have a comment other than to praise the«most favorite restaurant». I did however recently have my annual«bodily systems» check and I have no hearing problem, too much information. I readily would«take a back seat» to those more familiar with the gourmet faire of the Hacienda, but not for a watery Marguerita, mssing spinach purée and a loud guitarist.

My husband and I went for the Sunday buffet(second time) for a special day out. We had a reservation. In less than 30 minutes of being seated and just one round at the buffet, our check was dropped. Our neighboring tables had been there well in advance of us, but did not receive their checks. This was very odd! So, we went for our second course and came back to the table only to find it completely cleared. The busser apologized and said his manager asked that it be cleared. The waiter gave a just passing apology. At that point, the breakfast was ruined for us. We decided to leave and left our food behind after having our appetizers. Our bill for all of this«hospitality» and food was just under $ 100 for two. Before leaving, I asked to see the manager — the one who asked her team to drop our check off. She gave an an apology on par with the waiter and handed us a free buffet card for a future visit. The food is very good here and the free buffet for two is something we would foolish not to use given how good the food is here. We will give this place another chance and perhaps update our review if The Grill management and staff can redeem themselves. We are locals and were not hotel guests. We came in jeans and casual attire. We felt as if perhaps there was some form of prejudice going on here at Hacienda Del Sol(this is a semi-upscale resort). We had no other real explanation for what happened here, but we hope they don’t treat others this way.

I have been here a bunch of time but have never stopped and written a review. I’m not sure why I haven’t other than because most times I leave full of blood orange mimosas. Ok for starters the brunch is ridiculous. There is so much food and it is so very good. I could go here every single Sunday and be happy. Also, as previously mentioned, they have blood orange mimosas. The staff is always so very nice and every time I go it is delightful. Yes, seriously, delightful! I had the pleasure of dining there recently for dinner and even without my pleasant dinner companion it was a great evening. The staff was engaging and helped us pick out a great bottle of wine that went really well with our dinner. The food was absolutely delicious, I had the New York steak as my entrée and the chocolate flan for dessert. Yum, Yum Yum. Overall, it was a terrific evening.

We just celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary with dinner here. Hacienda Del Sol has become our special place for noteworthy occasions. I recommend the lobster ravioli with sage brown butter, parmesan and tarragon for an appetizer. There were 2 kinds of bread and both had delicious, chewy crusts. For dinner we both enjoyed the sea scallops with roasted fennel, confit tomato, parisian potato chorizo cream and artichokes. Yes, the prices are breathtaking, but for that you get a really nice ambience, a quiet environment where you can hear your lover talk, and great food. We would come here more often if we could afford it.

After 16 years in Tucson, we finally found this gem when looking for a brunch spot to meet up with some friends in town for the marathon. The first thing you notice are some stunning southwest panoramic views and the truly authentic ambience indoors as well. Impressed from the get go… the Sunday brunch was any foodie’s dream come true. First, they seated us within 5 minutes of our reservation and our server was there within about 2 minutes of seating. So we’re off to a good start. Now, for me, a devout smoked salmon lover, any buffet with an endless supply of this delicacy gets huge brownie points. Now to be clear, I currently follow a low carb regimen, so I had to pass on the freshly made waffles and the french toast(which looked awesome by the way.) I had them pour all my carbs into the bottomless blood orange mimosas. I promise they did not cloud my judgement a bit. I don’t think. I can only tell you that the choices were truly stunning for a buffet, complete with a carving station(the prime rib was fabulous) and fresh omelettes made to order, with a couple of really nice chefs manning it. I could tell you about the endless supply of wonderful large cocktail shrimp, the fresh and unique salads, the table of desserts even… but this is one place you just have to experience for yourself. The atmosphere alone is worth the trip, but you better bring your appetite.

The Thanksgiving dinner buffet was beyond disappointing this year. Most notably the traditional Thanksgiving dishes were so spicy hot they just burn your lips off. Even worse the extreme spiciness was achieved through the singular use of black pepper!!! Really — imagine that in all the potato and stuffing dishes! You are left with an undercooked bland, turkey. Not wonderful in any way. And even when I told my waiter there was No thought of «let me tell the chef». My conclusion is that they all know it is being ruined by the new owners. I am now wondering if the change in Ownership will perpetually ruin our go to holiday dinner destination(not to mention frequent Sunday brunch). I cannot imagine coming back. If i wanted corporate processed and peppered food I would have gone to one of the larger resorts. Next time we are going to the Arizona Inn prixe fixed holiday menu.

We went for Sunday brunch which was expensive but excellent. Even though it was buffet style all of the food tasted amazing. They have an omelet station, carving station and a waffle station. The buffet portion had lots of different options. Even lox and fresh cocktail shrimp. The blood orange bottomless mimosa also were excellent. We arrived at 11 am on Sunday and waited maybe 5 minutes to be seated.

Came here last night for an anniversary dinner and was disappointed. The service was terrible. We were seated in a corner and I think the waiter forgot about us because I would see him go to every table in the room except us. I got the Caesar salad to start and it was way over dressed. I ordered the New York strip for dinner. The presentation of the food was great. When the plate was put in front of me I couldn’t wait to dig in. However, when I took my first bite I realized this was the first and last time I’d be eating at hacienda del sol. The steak had a certain funk about it. Kind of like when you improperly defrost a frozen steak and it gets that tainted meat smell. All in all I spent $ 130 on dinner for two and neither of us thought it was worth it. I’ve honestly had a better steak at Texas Roadhouse.

The chefs here know what they’re doing; you can tell from the beautifully crafted meals and the incredibly flavored sample compliments from the chefs. Hacienda is usually reliably outstanding, but my birthday dinner was disappointing. The summer zin menu offers few options, so I asked for carbonara pasta(my favorite here, usually) and it was a sticky mess with no discernible flavor of pancetta, egg, cheese, or anything else. My boyfriend’s char was… well, a teeny charbroiled hockey puck. The mussels that we opted for to start were dry and didn’t even have enough garlic butter to moisten our bread. My «dessert» was basically just a plate with a couple of odd dime-sized crusts that were so confusing we just left them alone. While nothing could dampen my birthday spirits in such good company, and the guitarist was romantic perfection, the meal left me stupefied. Maybe the chef is on summer vacation, or the construction has interfered with the kitchen?

Used to be a 5 star, but what happened to our beloved Hacienda Del Sol? The bar used to serve signature cocktails but on a recent trip we got a margarita served in a tumbler and waaaay too sweet. Awful. Come on, at least serve it in a proper glass! Then dinner… yikes, what a mess. The calamari was flavorless and served on a huge bed of cabbage. Weird and unremarkable. My $ 40 filet mignon was a bad cut of meat, cooked right, but lacked seasoning and was served with the strangest sides: mushy beans(seriously, beans with a $ 40 dish?) and a cooked-hours-ago-and-just-barely-reheated potato croquette which was basically inedible. My husband’s dish was pork and severely overcooked to being tough. I hate leaving a bad review anywhere unless really deserved. This dinner was easily the worst I’ve had since living in Tucson for the past 12 years. Won’t be back and it’s too bad. It used to be a fave. *Note: What’s going on with the bar patio? What used to be an intimate and fun dining enclave is now devoid of personality and charm. It looks out over a bunch of houses and construction so not a great view. Very strange choice to remove that wall!

My family and I had an amazing experience in every way. My sister made a dinner reservation about a month in advance, as we were dining here after the UofA graduation. They were accommodating to the fact that we didn’t have an exact number of people who would be coming. Once we arrived, our party of 8 was given a beautiful circular table with a view of the sun setting over the mountains. Perfection. A sommelier came to our table to assist us in choosing from their large wine selection. We were offered slices of lemon, lime or cucumber for our water. There were employees always coming to our table to refill our waters and our wine glasses. Our waitress Sandy was fantastic. She was knowledgable about all of the menu items and had a great demeanor. They honored the Unilocal check-in offer of free house-made chips and salsa, and even included some delicious and fresh guacamole. We were served an herb butter and given the choice of 2 different types of bread to start. They seemed freshly made and were a nice start to the meal. A complimentary palate cleanser of some type of veggie smear on a spoon was served next. My entrée choice was the Salmon Roulade. This dish is a rolled salmon stuffed with spinach, basil and garlic and served with a lemon herb sauce atop an arriabata sauce. It comes with a crispy polenta which I subbed for broccolini and carrots. At $ 30 this is one of the cheapest menu items, and I found it to be delectable. Everything about the dish was perfect. Filet Mignon($ 44) and the Rack of Lamb($ 45) were also favorite dishes among the table. On to dessert, I was already stuffed. We were served a complimentary bite-sized chocolate cake square with a raspberry sauce. I then chose the home made Cookies and Cream Ice Cream. 2 smallish scoops were perfect. Sandy was fantastic here because she noticed my sister’s name on a card that she received and brought out her dessert with«Congratulations Paige» written on the plate in chocolate. As the finale, we were served a complimentary chocolate truffle in a little box to take home. From start to finish, this was one of the finest restaurant experiences I have ever had.

It’s been about three years since I’ve dined here. As a long term local, Hacienda Del Sol used to be my «go to» place in Tucson to celebrate a special occasion. Well, a lot has changed at this establishment in the three years since I’ve been here. They used to have three kinds of sea salt and butter at the table– now there’s just one of each. They used to offer you a lemon, lime, or cucumber with your water– now it’s none. They are hyper focused on an on-going expansion of the resort, yet it seems the small details one expects(and typically gets) with this level of pricing and«service» are MIA– or worse– gone for good… Regarding expansions, bigger is not always better, HDS. Where should I start with the mediocracy that we experienced during our recent meal? From the pompous sommelier, who took to recommending a «half bottle» to the inexperienced young waiter, who jetted in and out, not ever really stopping for a nano second to find out how we were enjoying our meal, yet did a major disappearing act for most of the time we were seated– coupled with painfully slow service– this wasn’t the Hacienda Del Sol experience of days past that I recall and yearn for. Be prepared, if you don’t order a five course meal– you’re going to get the stare down, and you’ll leave, like we did– wishing you hadn’t gone. We were treated like second rate citizens, and largely ignored by the fussy staff because all we ordered were two glasses of wine and two entrees. They do preen their feathers for the wealthy mid-western resort guests, so if you’re one of those– you have nothing to worry about. I feel like two stars is overly generous, considering our bad experience. My suggestion–(if you want to skip the pretentiousness and the exorbitant prices) there are several great restaurants about five minutes west of here(La Encantada area) that, regardless of what you order– you will be treated like a respected patron, even if you don’t spend $ 100+ per person to have a meal.

It’s been a full week since my exquisite experience at the Grill at Hacienda Del Sol and I’m STILL salivating over the food. Yes, it is THAT good. Everything was perfect and this is a fabulous place to go for a formal dining experience for a special occasion. They offer complementary valet service which you should take advantage of because the parking is quite limited. You walk through the courtyard which is lit up with sparkling little lights and it is just so pretty in conjunction with the beautiful views of Tucson. The hostess greeted us pleasantly upon our checking in for the reservation. I would definitely recommend making reservations — my husband said they were very thorough in asking about allergies and special occasions when he made the reservation. Our table wasn’t quite ready when we arrived(we arrived about 15 minutes before the reservation time) so we were directed to the bar area to get a cocktail while we waited. While we were indulging in our before dinner drinks(some fancy prickly pear concoction for myself and a good Scotch for him) we were asked by the hostess if we would like to be seated at the Chef’s table or wait for the formal dining room. If you have not been here before, I suggest waiting the extra time to have the experience in the dining room — we walked by the Chef’s table on our way in and it is adjacent to the kitchen which would be interesting to watch, but not for your first experience there or if you were celebrating a special occasion. We were seated, and the dining room is gorgeous. It’s beautiful and has so much history but does not feel stuffy. Service was excellent — from waters being poured to fresh cut lemon, limes, or cucumber slices being offered to bread and the clearing of the empty dishes. The staff is very well trained in their jobs and it takes great teamwork to have such a smooth flow. Kudos to both the front of house and the back of house. I was seriously impressed, and I am picky, picky, picky when it comes to service. Once you have ordered, a selection of house made breads are brought to your table for you to choose from. They make flavored butter to accompany the bread, and it the flavors change on a regular basis from my understanding. The type that was offered the night we were there was this delectable sundried tomato basil with sea salt flavor. I loved it — tomatoes are some of my favorite flavors so I was excited! We started with the Ahi Tuna appetizer which was rich, buttery, and melted in your mouth. They have a little dish of sea salt on the table just in case, but honestly the food does not need any tweaking of any sort. The ahi was fresh and light, and all of the elements(hearts of palm, cherry tomato garnish, microgreens, and marinated artichokes) worked perfectly together. I chose the salmon roulade which was perfect. Everything on the plate worked harmoniously and the burre blanc sauce really elevated the flavors of the salmon and spinach. The salmon was perfectly cooked, tender and moist. Included on the plate were some carrots which were perfectly cooked — nice and crisp. I tend to shy away from plain cooked carrots as a side because they get very sweet — I prefer them in soups and things like that — but the Chef did a fantastic job of teasing out the natural sweetness and balancing it with the savory elements of the dish without overcooking the carrots. To round out the plate, there was some crispy polenta with an acidic tomato sauce underneath. I really liked how the sweetness of the polenta paired with the sauce but did not overpower the rest of the dish. Presentation of this dish was very pretty — I thought it was very architectural with the triangles of the polenta and the roundness of the rolled salmon. My husband chose the Filet Mignon, medium rare. I do not eat red meat but the presentation of his dish was stunning. It looked wild and earthy with the potatoes and mushrooms and microgreens kind of «growing» out from under the filet. He loved it — there wasn’t a bite left on his plate. They give you a little tiny cup of house made spicy hot cocoa after your meal. It’s rich and I love the hint of heat. The amount is perfect too, an 8 oz cup of it would be way too rich to drink in one sitting. We ended with the cheesecake. The cheesecake itself is rich, creamy, and sweet but has a little hint of acidity to balance it out. It is also served with some macerated berries and is just delicious. I uploaded some pictures of each dish. Overall, this is definitely a place to check out for a special occasion. The staff is superb and goes above and beyond to make sure the night is special for you. They have a talented pianist who adds to the atmosphere as well — I enjoyed her arrangements of Broadway classics. I hear this place is just as amazing for brunch so I will have to be back!

Wow this Sunday brunch was no joke! I came here foe my sisters graduation brunch and I, nay we, were not let down! And they were so nice to bring a special dessert to my sis for her graduation, bonus star. First this restaurant is located in the upper foothills of Tucson so you know if you’re going to get views it’s going to be amazing. Our family was seated by a window and without a doubt there was an awesome north facing view of the mountains *gorg* The wait staff was awesome and started us out with champaign all around then explained the menu and how brunch worked. I think hr exact words were«have at it» lol It was great not having to fuss with a menu and wait for food. Now, the food. They had everything from prime rib, omelet station, waffle station, fruit, bacon, salad, quiche, potatoes, bacon, and all kinds of deserts. and bacon mmmmm… Yes I have a thing for bacon. Five mimosa later we took a tour of the place and took some pictures in the beautiful fountain garden. If you would like an amazefest brunch check this place out!

I have been wanting to come here for their famous Sunday brunch for a long time and finally, for my birthday, I did it. The setting at this historic ranch is magnificent and instantly relaxes you. The views are out-of-this-world and it’s semi-al fresco in the seating. Many choices of foods but I especially liked the omelette bar and the waffle bar. Meat eaters have lots of choices and your meal comes with champagne. And it’s all arranged in an inviting manner. It’s incredibly expensive, about $ 40 per person, and for me, being a vegetarian and non-drinker, I consider this a once in a lifetime visit. An aside: My all-time favorite buffet is the Crow’s Nest in Anchorage, Alaska atop the Capt. Cook Hotel. Nothing will ever top that. Here in Tucson, my favorite buffet is still the Tanque Verde Ranch. Lots of great food and an historic dude ranch with lots of horses.
