Finally found a good taco place!!! I had 2 tacos de carne asada and one chicken with Agua de horchata. The tacos were delicious! The only reason it does not get 5 stars is that I wish the corn tortillas were either handmade or at least a little fried. I love that they have all the toppings in one stand, you can pick out what you want in it, or whatever food you picked. You do get one refill, which stinks a little because the Agua de horchata is delicious!!!

food is OK, service can be kind of sketchy. My big pet peeve today: why are you mopping a slick concrete floor with soapy water in front of the cash registers right before lunch?! The elderly, pregnant women and handicapped would appreciate the floor not being MORE slippery.

So darn tasty. I waited years to go here because the menu seemed so simple and I wasn’t sure that I’d find anything I liked. However, as is often the case in life, simple is often best. The first few times I went, I have a chicken burrito with beans, cabbage and cheese. Last time, I finally decided I would try a chicken carmello and my God am I glad I did. As amazing as their burritos are, their carmellos are out of this world. It’s like a quesadilla in some ways, but so much better. You get two tortillas and in between in what I think is queso blanco and your choice of meat. The cheese is perfectly melty, yet still firm enough that it isn’t dripping on you. It isn’t greasy, but is soft and comforting and goes so well with the chicken(or beef) they stuff inside with the cheese. They also have a little bar that has different types of salsas, chilies and some sauces as well as plastic utensils, napkins, aluminum, and little plastic containers to take the sides with you. The price is right and the portions are generous. Considering how delicious their food is, you can’t go wrong by checking this place out.

We are in town for a wedding after travel mishaps and needed something fast to go on our way to our hotel. Remembering that I had this years ago when I used to live in Tucson, I asked my bf: want a hot dog wrapped in bacon? Sure enough that did the trick. It’s known for its Sonoran style hot dog, which is essentially a regular hot dog wrapped with a very thin bacon, in a soft fluffy bun with plenty of toppings. For about $ 2, the quality exceeds expectations. I’ve tried this place both at this location and at its food truck during events, and the food at the restaurant is way better. Their aqua Fresca is good– so good that we finished ours while waiting for the food and got another one. This is the definition of a quick stop for good cheap food.

I go here every time I visit Tucson. There is no way I could go to Tucson and not eat here. Food is great. The only place that I’ve been that serves the Sonoran hot dogs. If I would of drove I would of packed a cooler with the Sonoran hot dogs.

Really enjoy their Sonoran Hotdogs however, the El Guero Canelo on the west side of town seems to have a better atmosphere and vibe to it.

This is the only location I’ve been to. I’ve been there twice, don’t anticipate going again. I’ve not had the hot dogs, but rather the carne asada among other choices. Not impressed with the food. We have so many options for Sonoran Mexican food here in Tucson, one could go to 20 or 30 places with better food, value and atmosphere.

Can’t go to Tucson and not go to El Guero Canelo. My mouth literally waters just thinking about it! This location is the third and is location on 22nd street just a few blocks west of Wilmot. The food is ALWAYS on point. I used to be obsessed with caramelos, but recently I’ve been on a burro stint. The medium and large burros come with cabbage and beans and meat(chicken or carne asada), but the mini burro is only meat and beans. They are also, famously, the home of the Sonoran dog which is a hot dog wrapped in bacon and served in a bread envelope/bun and topped with charro beans, an avocado mayo, pico de gallo, and WHATEVERELSEYOUWANT. They used to have house-made flan, but now they get it from a vendor… it’s sadly not as good :/ They have a salsa bar which is one of the highlights, I think. You can get sliced cucumbers, radishes, and limes, an avocado cream salsa, a Serrano/tomatillo salsa, a red hot salsa, and a mild pico de gallo. And finally, they have roasted jalapeños and baby onions(with stems?) for consumption… they’re so good. We got guacamole this time around, and they give you a TON! Delicious. I highly recommend this place… if that wasn’t clear :)

Came back and had the steak burrito — generous portion for a good price. This place is good, no wonder it’s always busy during lunch, but you really have to know what to order since not everything on the menu is great.

Came here based on a recommendation to try out the famous Sonoran hot dogs. Prices were fairly cheap at around $ 2 per hot dog, and the portions weren’t too big so one person could easily finish one. They had a salad bar-type area where you could get salsa, cucumbers, peppers, etc. while waiting for your order. Food: The hot dogs were interesting– hot dog in the middle with bacon, salsa, mustard, and some other toppings in a white bread bun. Each dog came with a grilled pepper on the side. A little messy to eat, but tasted alright. A good try if you’re visiting the area, in my opinion. The horchata was fantastic! Homemade and very refreshing. Also, you get a free refill if you want more to drink or to take it to go.

Great food and fun here at Güeros. There is a Sonoran Dog debate in Tucson, but I prefer all other locations except 22nd… this location is smaller and dirtier than others. I celebrated(not the day of, but the week of!) my high school graduation, my college graduation, my Facebook account creation(hey, its a big deal), my engagement and my wedding here. I come here EVERY time I am in Tucson. Instead of driving into Mexico, I come here. It has the authentic feel in its décor and flavor. They have a full menu, with a full salsa bar(including grilled jalapeños and green onions!). Real Coke in a bottle as well. Stop by 1 of their many location accross Tucson!(and I believe they are spreading into Phoenix soon…)

«As seen on TV…» I think being on a food show tends to focus people on the signature item, which perhaps doesn’t do a place justice. Faced with an extensive menu, I went for the reason I came here: to try the famous Sonoran Dog. The Sonoran dog is good, though I felt like the super-white-bread bun had a little too much control over the flavor(go for the«Sammy” – double). The synthetic-tasting mayo on top I found very disappointing(though residents of the US may find it somewhat exotic). The dedicated following that El Guero Canelo has reminds me of the fans of a certain type of tiny burger served on a dinner roll. Some love it, some don’t. If the Platonic ideal form of a Sonoran Dog is what they serve here, this is Paradise. Overall an ok experience; I’ll give this place another try. Not so sure about the item featured on a cable-channel near you.

I have lived in Tucson for 20 years and have never had a Sonoran hot dog. Yes, I shamefully admit it! My brother was visiting and I knew this was the perfect opportunity to try this Tucson classic. As most know, the food here is fresh and delicious. Honestly, you have to eat a Sonoran dog, I can’t really describe it. Layer upon layer of flavor. My brother, who lives in Illinois, loved the salsa and condiment bar. It was also a treat to get soda in real glass bottles, just like we had when we were kids! The service was great also. My mother was with us and she has a wheelchair. One of the employees, I didn’t get his name, noticed and actually pulled a wheelchair accessible table next to us! It’s a simple, no frills place, but the food and service are fantastic.

Good stuff. Bueno. We always make a stop here when in Tucson. The hotdogs Sonoran style are a treat. Butterflied wrapped in bacon and in a delicious panderia style bun. The only bummer was out of buns? On visit some could not have dogs but had yummy taco. go enjoy local food.

The only place I will take two weiners at once, the Sammy dog is out of sight. Paired with a legit, real deal Coca Cola, and I’m satisfied. Really, two at one time. Brutally delicious.

So awesome. Did not want to leave AZ without some good Mexican food and this really hit the spot. Amazing carne asada tacos. Liked the«add your own toppings bar» love the cabbage and all the salsas were great. Also had our first Sonoran hot dog and loved it(that’s saying a lot since we’re from Chicago ;))

I really don’t do hotdogs. The thought of what’s inside sort of grosses me out. That said, I had a Sonoran dog regular, my husband had one without the jalapeño, and we got an order of chips and guacamole. I looked at the receipt and was sort of cranky about the $ 6 for the chips, but the guacamole was a large plate full, and I think it’s the best I’ve ever had. The Sonoran dog was good, but I added some extra spicy hot sauce. In terms of hotdogs, if I am going to eat one, it will be here. :) Minus one star because the back of the building smells like wet ashtray.

I’ve been eating at El Guero Canelo since they had only the one South-side location with its barely-walls and its almost-not-a-food-truck ambiance. I was thrilled when they opened the Oracle location, and doubly excited at the East-side spot on 22nd Street, where I try to eat at least once a month. The store is true to its roots, with picnic benches indoors, the bright colors of the Mexican flag proudly decorating inside and out. On the side of the building is an outdoor preparation/cooking area, and the best dish on the menu is still the Sonoran Hot Dog. I think the hot dog has gotten better in recent months, as the last one I ate had more of the taste of bacon and hot dog — two things that are sometimes lacking from its flavor, as noted by some other Unilocalers. Even still, the toppings have always been wonderful. It isn’t the best Sonoran Hot Dog in town, but it’s always good. The salsa bar has all of the favorites, and a few surprises. The grilled onions are always a perfect accompaniment to any Mexican street food. The fresh salsa goes well with the small cheese quesadilla — a personal favorite. No other restaurant in town has the same semi-melty texture of queso blanco, so perfectly prepared. El Guero Canelo is a Tucson tradition, and one I’m happy to indulge in at every opportunity. And if you’re lucky, you’ll be there when El Guero Canelo himself is touring the store, asking how you like your food, and thanking you for choosing his restaurant.
