Oooops, Rulesz! We love Ray’s ice cream! We are so glad Eli moved in and took over the old space of Kaleidoscopes; they had terrible customer service. The sandwiches are to die for here too! They are so big and some what messy which makes is a better sandwich! Oh, I love the combination’s they have! The owner is very good at his job. He is service orientated, is always smiling, and constantly building relationships with his customers. We love this place!

I have to say– the number one thing that stands out about this place to me is the service. I couldn’t want anything more. Right from the start the guy behind the counter was plesant and helpful. He told me about certain things that made each sandwich great. I decided on the Harti Arti. He chatted with me the whole time. Now that I think back, sure it might have been a bit longer than what I would normally wait for a sandwich… but in the end, it was WELL worth it. According to my sandwich artist, the Harti Arti is usually made on a different bread, but they were out of that(this seems to be a re-occurring theme here), but quite honestly, it didn’t matter. The bread was crisp and chewy. The artichokes were plentiful. The sun-dried tomatoes were bright and tangy. The pesto aioli was creamy and savory. The lettuce added a nice level of crunch. The parmesan was pungent and salty. I loved this sandwich. The only thing I would change is the amount of oil on the bread. Other than that– perfection. The menu at Ooops is imaginative. The grilled cheese boasts 3 different types of fromage, dried black cherries, toasted pecans and basil! Check out their website for the full description: This quaint little shop has two tables and a bench. I decided to get the sandwich to go. I love that the owner uses a lot of Michigan products– IE: Ray’s potato chips, Ray’s Ice Cream, Zingerman’s bread. I encourage him to keep it up. It would great if he could start carrying Faygo and Better Made products as well. Look for the«People on Unilocal love us» sticker on their door. Pretty cool! I’ll be back… next week!

Recently, I went in for a sandwich. I figured that pastrami was the way to go. Maybe, it wasn’t. I figured Zingerman’s bread was a damn good sign that I’d have a damn good sandwich. Honestly, the bread was the best part of the sandwich. Maybe, I’m asking for too much when I order a pastrami sandwich. My problem might be that I’m looking for Pastrami like one gets in New York. Katz’s Deli( ) where Meg Ryan feigned an orgasm for«When Harry Met Sally» is what comes to mind. Maybe, she had the pastrami. If so, like Estelle Reiner’s character said, «I’ll have what she’s having.» I love the thick slices of brisket that Katz’s puts on the plate. The seasoning? Flawless texture. Just the right amount of fat. It eclipses all other pastrami experiences for me. I had heard that the pastrami at Katz’s was good. When I went there for the first time, it was beyond anything I had imagined, but it was still in keeping with what I always had in mind as great pastrami. It was archetypal pastrami. Katz’s just went further and made it better than I ever could have fantasized. Take a look at the succulent meat in the pictures on their website. I dare you to do so without salivating. The skimpy, thin slices of pastrami on my sandwich reminded me of some of the turkey pastrami I’ve gotten from the grocery. I felt like someone might be trying too hard to keep me healthy, making a sacrifice that I wouldn’t have made willingly in a restaurant. I thought the service was earnest and sincere. It just took a long time to get my sandwich. I would like to echo another review which mentioned the sandwich preparer having to go back and forth numerous times from one end of the store to the other just to make my sandwich. I just don’t get it. How is that an efficient way to do things? Just like I went to see Deep Purple(for whom I don’t much care) for Steve Morse(IMHO a god among men) on guitar and jokingly called it «Steve Morse featuring Deep Purple,» I thought of my Oooops! sandwich as «Zingerman’s Bread featuring Meat Between the Slices.» I do think, however, that it’s great that I can go there for Zingerman’s bread and Ray’s Ice Cream without making the trek to Zingerman’s(or a grocery that sells Zingerman’s bread) or Ray’s – not that I’m a Ray’s fanatic or anything, which is another issue entirely.

Just thought I’d send in an update about a new sammy sandwich I tried today. It was the pretzel sand which. I was«this close» to going to Subway cause I was in a rush and was trying to be conscientious about my money. Found this sand which on the menu for $ 4.99 and man, it was worth the extra 5 minute wait! Large sand which with a ton of flavor for a very reasonable price:)

I find my self hitting Unilocal before Yahoo now-a-days, and for good reason. Once you’ve found a Unilocaler with a ton of reviews and similar taste as your own, you are solid gold. So that’s what got me into Oooops. My girlfriend had told me about Zingermans before, but she never mentioned they have bread or a deli. All I heard about was the cake. To be able to experience their products so much closer to home is rather nice. Aside from having the amazing products from Zingermans Oooops really does them justice with the sandwiches they create. My girlfriend and I split the Lucky Turkey and it was fantastic. The bread was grilled perfectly, the turkey was very good quality, the lettece and tomato were both fresh, and the pesto balance the whole thing out and gave it character. I also ordered an ice cream for my girlfriend while we waited(it takes a bit of time to craft such a good sandwich), and I asked her to tell me about the ice cream so I can put it in my review. So this is a paraphrasing of her thoughts on the ice cream… «it’s good». The spot is small with not many places to sit so to go is your best bet around lunch. I went in around 6 so I could have ate there if I wanted to. It is a cute little building and the décor is subtle and tasteful. The owner is very nice and I very much apprietiated his stance on his business. He said he knows that the sandwiches take a bit of time to make, but that is the price you have to pay for a quality sandwich. I agree with him 100%. I would wait 10 extra minutes for a great sandwich than go for a fresh off the manufacturing line sandwich any day. I cannot wait to go back to try something else. I played it safe this time around, but next time I go I might end up walking out with 2 sandwichs!

really outstanding sandwiches. they do run out of ingredients, but there are no bad choices when it comes to the menu. if you can’t handle your first option being unavailable, just don’t go. if you have some flexibility and just need a solid, delicious deli sandwich, this is your place. exceptional combinations and ingredients. and RAY’S ICECREAM a full ice cream counter where you can also get cones, sundaes, shakes, malts, gallons to go, etc. i should mention that there is not much seating(2 four person tables and 1 tall bar table), so don’t go there if you need to leave the office and sit. takeout is probably your best option. also, don’t miss it. if you’re heading north on main/livernois, it will be just past 14 mile on your right(with red wagon liquor on your left).

Sweet sandwich shop! Forget the fast food and tasteless chain and their $ 6-dollar«meals». Stop by Oooops! at the corner of Maple(15 mile) and Livernois(Main) and spend a few more minutes picking up a whole lot more(yet, not for much more– if any– cash!). We’ve dropped in Ooops! a few of times in the past months, and have never been disappointed. In fact, quite the opposite. From the delicious, fresh Zingermann’s bread that was suggested for sandwiches we were making at home and delicious Ray’s ice cream to the two mind-blowing gourmet sandwiches(Pretzel, #4 and Veggie Grilled Cheese with fresh-picked– right-from-the-plant basil), everything was wonderful. The«Hearty Arti» is worth the wait every time! I’ve been to Ooops! several times now — and sure the sandwiches may take a while to make — but every time I go it is absolutely the best sandwich I’ve ever had. I take friends there and they always love what they get and if they are out of ingredients, suggestions are always made to fill in the gaps. For the quality of food you get, the prices are spot on. The owner is friendly and goes out of his way to greet customers as well as make great suggestions for other treats to try as well(cookies, ice cream etc).

Oooops! should add: «we run out of ingredients regularly» as a disclaimer below their restaurant sign. I wasn’t as unfortunate as Joe T. when ordering my sandwich at Oooops! but I feel his frustration. I got their roast beef sandwich called the Crazy Lew. I won’t knock the quality of their sandwiches because you can definitely taste the fresh ingredients, and i give that 4 stars, but i expected the prices to be more like Potbelly’s. I also ordered an iced coffee, which for a $ 1 i thought was a great deal, until i was told to add my own granulated sugar. With iced coffee, i thought it was a norm for the shop to add a sugar syrup and blend? It just didn’t taste the same trying to add the sugar later… didn’t sweeten it one bit. The staff were nice, and the place is decorated really well, very homey feeling… until you try to find a seat. For café/deli/ice cream/coffee shop to have limited AND uncomfortable seating at that, is just a shame. I would have probably enjoyed the meal more if they had better seating. Right now, being summer time, they could probably set up some outdoor seating if they wanted. It was worth a try, but probably won’t go back anytime soon.

This is a cozy, friendly decorated little sandwich/ice cream shop in a nice part of Troy, near the Clawson/Birmingham borders. It’s family owned and definitely does not feel like a chain of course. After looking at the menu carefully, I ordered the ‘Corned Beef Utopia.’ «Sorry we’re all out of sauerkraut, would you like it with coleslaw?» I love my corned beef classic Reuben style and coleslaw just doesn’t cut it. I then thought, OK, let’s move to option 2. I politely asked for the ‘Pastrami.’ (with an apologetic chuckle) «Sorry we are all out of pastrami.» Now, I was getting pretty disappointed, but I am a nice person so I kept my pleasant disposition, rosy cheeks and all, and thought about what my number 3 choice would be. This was tough because the only time I settle for a number 3 choice is with women on a drunken night. With food, nuh uh, it’s always number 1 choice for me! Ha, call me spoiled. So I asked for the ‘Yahtzee Pig ‘N’ Boogie’ which looked cool cause it had scallions and Philly Cream Cheese, 2 goodies I’ve never mixed together before. (with a genuinely embarassed chuckle) «Sorry we are all out of scallions.» By now I was like, «Wow, it’s my unlucky day at Oooops! Maybe I should come here mid-week when ingredients are still plentiful,» I joked. By now I was sadly picking my 4th choice! I chose the ‘Yummy Hammy’ and voila — the 4th time was a charm! Haha. So the sandwiches we ordered took a good 20 minutes to make even though we and 1 other customer were the only folks there, hmm, and the seating was awkward — there were benches like you’d see at a park, with some tables that were not the right height for said benches, some random chairs, and even some high tables with no high chairs — or chairs period for that matter! I suppose some folks that come here want to pay $ 8 a sandwich to STAND and eat, LOL. I mean how do you have a lunch/ice cream/coffee place — near corporate Troy and nearby café-ridden Clawson/Royal Oak — and have bad/little seating inside? It’s almost like they don’t want you to stay there and eat. Wait, I think it IS like that! So after getting the 2 sandwiches, 2 iced coffees, and bag of chips — my girlfriend and I sat down to eat. The sandwiches were good, meaty, and made well. Overpriced — but still I could taste the attention to good ingredients, good assembly and buttered-toast to perfection. I asked for water on this 85 degree hot summer day and I was given 2 cups and told to go to the drinking fountain near the bathroom in the back to get my water. No problem — some of the coldest water I’ve had in my life has been from those aluminum contraptions. Not the case here. It was lukewarm, and I was not offered any ice. The water temperature from this fountain was similar to that of fresh urine. Not that I drink urine. Being a family owned place you would think they’d be thoughtful enough to at least offer me some ice cubes. I figured oh what the hell, I have an iced coffee, I’ll make ado with that. Our sandwiches, iced coffees, and 1 bag of chips came out to about $ 21. And even that price is thanks to the coffee being a $ 1 special. I looked over at the ice cream and saw that the double scoops on a waffle cone were close to $ 6.00/each! — So I restrained my desire and, «I whistled for a cab and when it got near I yelled to the cabby, how much is the fare?» He said, «less than what you paid for 2 sandwiches in THERE! But I thought, naw, forget it — yo homes, to Bel Air! « (LOL, that rhymed, do you like that?) Overall, this place makes a good sandwich on nice toasted Zingerman’s bread, and they seem to offer a lotta cool ice cream flavors — but between the lack of stocked ingredients, long wait time even without many customers, awkward/lack of seating, lukewarm drinking fountain water with no ice, and high-end pricing with poor ROI — I don’t think I’ll be choosing this place again anytime soon. I just can’t stomach(literally) going to a place where $ 35+ for a lunch for 2(including sandwiches, chips, drinks and ice cream) and a lack of seating/ingredients coexist.

Uummm… how long did you guys all wait for your sandwich?! We got there around noon on a Tuesday after reading the amazing reviews from all you Unilocalers but once I got there I realized that I was in for a bumpy ride. First of all there’s only one table with chairs and two other bar height tables with no chairs. So take out would probably be the best bet. There’s no organized ordering system either. There were two other customers in front of us but the people who came in after us got their sandwiches made first?! The menu is small but has some great sounding combos and for the soups make sure you ask them if they have it or not. I asked for the chili and then the broccoli cheese but both were not available, just the minestrone. After waiting 30 minutes… no seriously… we canceled our order b/c it wasn’t even close to being made yet. So for those of you who have unlimited time this is the spot to come to. I used to work at Zingerman’s Roadhouse so I was really excited to have a piece of that in Troy. But after waiting a half hour for a freaking sandwich it would probably be faster to actually go to Zingerman’s Deli in Ann Arbor!

My experience at Oooops! was a great one. The sandwich I ordered was solid, not at all soggy(as some people mentioned theirs have been), and I really got 2 meals for my money. Not bad! Living in Ann Arbor, I’m a little spoiled by easy access to Zingerman’s bread. Still, I always appreciate it when I see it out and around in other areas of the Metro area(just like I love that the Produce Station and Co-op here in A2 carry Avalon!). The bread is goood. The owner, Eli, we extremely sweet, and mentioned sandwich to me that wasn’t even on the menu yet called the«Sassy Chick.» Thin-sliced chicken, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle mayo actually went together quite well. And I loved the classic olive on the«sandwich spear.» It seems the owner is really friendly and open to feedback from his customers, so for those looking for this or that tweak — speak up while you’re there! The fellow is very sweet and accommodating. I’m not up in Troy all the often, and Oooops can’t quite steal my heart from Z-mans or Mudgie’s, for that matter. But, if I find myself in this general area craving a sammich — there’s no doubt I’ll be back to try something else!

I see I am not the only one apart of the«if Janelle P liked it… then it MUST be good» cult. All hail, Janelle P. I was initially not going to write a review, and I even announced that I was not going to do so at the UYE brunch. But… after reading Alfred K’s review, getting some flack from Lorna for not writing one at all, and Janelle’s merciless review of Mudige’s… I figured it was OK for me to set aside my conscience. Capitalism only works well when the consumer provides in put. So really, it’s my moral duty to write this review. Let me start off first by saying: Great bread does not make a great sandwich if it is covered in oil and toasted. At this point of bread torture, all bread tastes the same — thanks to that beautiful Maillard reaction and thick oil particles coating your tongue. The owner is a great guy, and I feel for him trying to make it in this business(and hence my hesitation to even write this review)… but 2 things from our conversation stuck out: 1. He prides himself on using quality ingredients 2. He says he incorporates his physics degree into everything at the shop Any self respecting delicatessen makes their own pickles. Those pickles were neon and came right from a jar. I became suspect of the claim of using quality ingredients when I saw that they served Ray’s ice cream — which is NOT a good ice cream but hits all the sentimental buttons for people around here. Ray’s has more gums in it than a pre-teen’s mouth. The parmesean used for the Arti sandwich is or reminiscent of Kraft’s parm from a jar — you know the kind. He showed us that the tomatoes were still on the vine«the best kind» — and still whole from the fridge. Why, oh, why weren’t these tomatoes cut up in the beginning of the day? The second problem seems to be his incorporation of physics into his business… really, this place needs to be redesigned by an engineer. The fridge is across from the ice cream bar AND he has no mis-en-place at his sandwich station. He has to continuously keep going back and forth to the fridge, gloving, ungloving, screwing off tops, putting it back in to the fridge. THISISWHYITTAKESSODAMNLONGTOGET A SANDWICH! For someone who loves efficiency and promptness as much as I do, this was just too painful to watch. So, you stand there. Waiting. There’s only a few chairs, no place to sit down and chat with your friend while waiting for your sandwiches. So while waiting, one sandwich gets done… 15 minutes later… another gets done… and the first sandwich is now soggy on the bottom. I had the Arti and the tomato/mozzerella one — both soggy on the bottom, both dripping with oil, both impossibly messy to eat. The Arti sandwich was inedible. The parm/cream sauce it had was not palatable. The tomato/mozz one wasn’t bad, minus the soggy bottom. At $ 8 a sandwich and 15 minutes per sandwich… I can’t justify going back. Life is too short.

I’m quite confused about the crazy accolades this place has been getting! Perhaps I was expecting too much after reading these reviews? I really wanted to love Oooops, but I can’t give it any more than 3 stars with a conscience. I’ll start by saying that this place takes its time to prepare its food, so if you’re in a hurry you might want to consider going somewhere else. Wouldn’t have been a big concern for me if the food was worth the wait, but in hindsight I’m not sure it was. You can tell so much about a deli by its pickle, and so that’s how I started my meal. And what a disappointing start it was. The pickle was mush, tasted like it was from a jar, and immediately screamed«Costco». For a place that seems to bring in local favorites like Zingerman/Goldfish Tea/Ray’s, I wish that they would use pickles from McClure’s. Oh well, I thought to myself… it is a small business after all. Cut them some slack. I went on. We ordered the Hearty Arti(#5) and Farmer’s Sin(#6). The Farmer’s Sin was highly recommended on Unilocal so I was most looking forward to it, but it was just okay for me. The fresh mozzarella was nice, but the pesto kind of turned me off a little bit. It didn’t taste bad, but after a while it started soaking through the bread and turned the Zingerman Paesano into mush. «Oooops!». We took the mush as the sign to stop eating the Farmer’s Sin and moved on to the Arti. A very generous amount of heavy/creamy mayo-like spread, plenty of marinated artichokes(we saw the jar: Kirkland/Costco), paired with sundried tomatoes(…Costco again???), and Parmesan powder from a can(meh… if not Costco it’s Costco-esque). It was okay, but definitely not out of this world. It would have been nice if the sundried tomatoes were cut up — they were rather sizeable, certainly a jaw workout, and overall just annoying to eat. Now I’m not too proud to shop at Costco. They do have some good products, and if I were a small business owner, I’d probably rely on Costco quite a bit as well. But if you order a sandwich and have to wait some 15 – 20 minutes, and during that whole wait you are listening to the owner constantly vaunting that quality ingredient is their approach, you can’t help but expect more. And on that note I was very let down. Zingerman’s bread, however amazing, shouldn’t book-end mediocre filling. Ingredients, if they are quality, should speak for themselves and not need to be covered up in heavy-handed sauces and spreads. I don’t mind a messy sandwich. Like the owner suggested, some of the best sandwiches are messy. But that shouldn’t be an excuse for serving up sandwiches that are soggy from the sauces and spreads. I also ordered a minestrone, and when it was handed to me, the owner assured me that ‘he was told’ that it’s a good soup. My immediate thought was«Oh Crap». Sure enough, the soup tasted like Campbell’s from a gas station — mushy vegetables, super high sodium, and definitely not made in-house. This one wasn’t even Costco quality. It reminded me of Sysco food service. I might come back if I’m craving a Zingerman’s Over the Moon Pie and not really feeling like driving to Ann Arbor. Otherwise I can’t see why I would for the moment. Oooops has great potential, but certainly needs a few tweaks as it stands right now.

I live by a schedule. I make post-it note reminders to myself of what I need to do the following day. Every night I map-out where I need to go on my days off. Unilocal has allowed me to find the hidden gems and the cream of the crop and make sure to fit them in too: Oooops! just happens to be the most amazing sandwich experience I have EVER had. I had it all mapped out: stop in Detroit, make a couple stops in Ferndale and catch lunch in Troy and finish with some shopping in Auburn Hills. «What’s the name of the place?» [my friend asking me where I had chosen for lunch as we were turning onto Livernois] «Oooops!» as I drew out the O’s. «What?» as if to say ‘what’s wrong?’ «That’s what it’s called» and we both laughed. It is a small building, but we were walking in and I reminded her that Janelle P. had raved about them, and we were both in agreeance that she does a great job/has great taste, so we were optimistic. Keep in mind that they are just getting settled in– they need some more seating inside. The girl working there was so kind. She knew right away as we stood back and read the sandwiches on the chalkboard. «You guys haven’t been here before, have you?» she asked us. We explained that we hadn’t but had read the reviews on Unilocal and we were so excited to try them. She handed us the take-out menu from behind the counter that looked well-used, but laughed and told us that they were in the process of getting new take-out menus and that was the only one left. I decided on 2– ½ size sandwiches. One half of the #1 Oooopsy Doooopsy! and the other half of the #5 Hearty Arti. She laughed and also mentioned that I could always come back to try the other ones, but I’ve been such a food whore lately, that I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try a couple of their sandwiches. Now I can’t be too specific because I can’t quite remember the sandwich description. The Oooopsy Doooopsy came with turkey, ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese and chipotle mayo on the yummiest Zingerman’s bread! The Hearty Arti had artichokes, dried tomatoes, lettuce, parmesan cheese, and some other sort of sauce. The sandwich artisans are so friendly, warm and welcoming. The owner came to greet us and explain his mission: to provide us with the perfect sandwiches with the best ingredients throughout the entire length of the bread and to make us as happy as he would be when he made himself a sandwich. He talked to us about only being open for a month and that he had read some of the reviews on Unilocal after finding out about the online community. [Yelpers, keep giving this business 5 stars!!!] They both explained that this was an entire process and that it takes time to make these sandwiches, but the wait is more than worth it. Fresh off the panini press and into my eager hands. Before sitting down, I grabbed some napkins from the dispenser on the counter near the ice cream. The owner kindly and graciously presented a stack of bigger napkins and explained that the small ones wouldn’t be sufficient. Thank God for bigger napkins!!! I stopped wanting to find a strategic way to eat these sandwiches, after many failed attempts. There was no being dainty about it. Full 10 finger, 2 handed grip on these monsters! And I let myself down when I realized I didn’t have a hair tie to pull my long hair back with. I finished every savory bite, and wouldn’t have had room for Ray’s ice cream if I tried! At the end of our euphoric sandwich-experience, the owner was more than pleased that I wanted to take a picture and was saying goodbye and nice to meet you. I love giving businesses like this a great review, because I am confident that he will continue to uphold his excellent service and taste standards so that everyone will have the same kind of sandwich experience as I did.

This is not your typical sandwich shop and that is awesome, because lord knows we need some variety to spice up this town! I never would have stopped in here if not for Unilocal, but boy am I glad my did. You know a place is going to be good if Zingerman’s is willing to be the bread provider and sell their own goods there. Not to mention the Ray’s ice cream also available. To my delight, my hubby came home work work early today and after days of bugging him he FINALLY took me to Oooops for the best and most original vegetarian sandwich I ever had. Impeccable care is the best way to describe the way these sandos are made… and realize it will take a few minutes and realize it will be worth it. My hubby had the tomato, mozzarella, and basil sandwich-not a fan of raw tomato I didn’t try but a small bite where there was no tomato… BUT it was the freshest version of this sandwich I had ever seen and the ‘fresh basil’ is actually grown in the store! My sandwich was amazing… artichoke, sun dried tomato(like those, hate raw, I know it’s weird), lettuce, parmesan cheese and a homemade pesto alaoi(sp?) which is basically worse for you than mayo, but effing aye was it good. 8 bucks is worth the quality of ingredients by far… it COULD be enough for 2 people, but you won’t be able to stop eating it. You won’t find a reuben or a similar sandwich here, but you can get your classic turkey, roast beef and ham, but it’s totally better. I cannot wait to get back and try the tuna artichoke. The place is about a month old so you can tell they are still trying to get settled in, they do need a few more tables and chairs but at least they are there. I would love to see some more sandwich options as the place gets more exposure and more clientele… don’t get me wrong, they are great, but as of now there are only about 10 options, but one should be easily able to find something satisfying. Overall fresh ingredients, carefully made sandwiches, Zingermans goods and Ray’s ice cream… as well as European teas and coffees, if this is your thing you will not be disappointed.

I said oops upside your head, I said oops upside your head! Want to hear how to KNOW it’s going to be a good sandwich? The owner says to you, «do you have some napkins? You’re definitely going to need them.» Just what I love to hear! I had the Oopsy Doopsy, it’s their signature sandwich with turkey, ham, bacon(perfectly done), tomato, lettuce, a spicy mustard and a zesty sauce that complimented each other beautifully. All layered together very neatly on the most wonderful Zingerman’s bread I have ever tasted. It’s chewy and crispy and fresh as you will ever taste… And let me tell you, this thing was HUGE! It only cost $ 8 and I for sure could have made two sandwiches out of it… if it weren’t so damn good! With a straight face I tell you that this is the single best sandwich I have ever had in my life. Without a doubt, hands down, the search for the best deli sandwich has ended.
