Hands down the best Italian meal I have had in a long time. Our party of 7 was served impeccably. The meals were just out of this world. Great wine list. This truly is a hidden gem.

Awesome authentic Italian food. Huge portions so bring your appetite or be prepared to bring some home for lunch tomorrow. Fettuccine Alfredo is amazing. I suppose the environment could be a little nicer or they could do some updating, such as with the tables/chairs, paint, decorations, etc. But it has the feel of a great Italian place that’s been around for a long time. Some of the best Italian food I’ve had; I’m not sure how Italian chain restaurants stay in business when there are places like this.

Incredibly authentic and old school Italian dining experience in Troy, NY! Worth every single star and maybe even 0.5 more. We called for reservations probably about an hr before we wanted to be seated and it was no problem. Upon walking in we saw why– they have 3 separate dining rooms with large spacious tables. Upon exploring the menu, my better half had 1001 questions and the waiter was quite friendly and helpful about it. He went through multiple suggestions of great dishes on the menu and a few of us ended up ordering some of them and we agreed. We started off with the calamari which was served with more of a cocktail style sauce rather than a marinara. It was a great starting dish. The meal started off with some warm bread which is always a plus. Among the party we ordered the veal Giuseppe, the broiled scallops, the fettuccine Bolognese, the fettuccine con cognac, the veal Sorrentina and the red snapper mugnaia. The veal Giuseppe was a hit! It was stuffed with crab, provolone and basil and covered in a roasted red pepper and onion cream sauce. I opted for the fettuccine con cognac but subbed the prosciutto for chicken. This was their version of a creamy pink sauce and it was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals and there were no real misses. The average price for a dish was $ 20 give or take a few dollars(mostly give) but really the portions pretty much justified the price. Each entrée comes with bread, salad, a side of pasta and a side of potatoes! Enough to feed a small army(for a week)! So a major perk for me was the lefties I can eat the next day.

On a busy Saturday nite, without reservations, the hostess was happy to squeeze us in a full dining room. The waitress was wonderful and the food was equally as good. Great atmosphere, a bit noisy, but not too loud. Easy parking on the street. A hidden gem !!!

Went here on a busy Friday night. Made a reservation, no problem, we were immediately seated in a nice spot upstairs. This place is tiny when you walk in with a lively bar, so it was nice to be immediately seated by a friendly young lady. This seemed to be the attitude of everyone that worked here from the busboy to the hostess, servers to the owner who stopped by our table to say hi. The food was delicious. We started out with the tortellini soup which featured great broth, large cut veggies, and the tortellini that was obviously homemade. Jayne had the chicken Piccata which uniquely featured large cut carrots, beautiful green beans, and mashed potatoes. on the side was a mound of pasta and sauce. I had the ravioli with meatball which was delicious and I took half home. Meals served with warm crusty bread and a nice side salad. Cannot be overstated how friendly and inviting everyone in this restaurant is. We will be back for sure,

On my first visit here I was underwhelmed with the atmosphere, but the food had me coming back. Excellent, authentic Italian food, reasonably priced, and generous portions. The wait staff and bar staff are all extremely friendly and competent. The owner usually circulates and chats up the regulars and introduces himself to the newbies. Very comfortable, dependable place.

The manager of the Habana Premium Cigar Shoppe in East Greenbush and myself had dinner at this Italian restaurant on Monday night. It was raining heavily but that did not deter the multitude of the regulars from arriving for their reservations. This place is totally old school Italian. Michael LoPorto, executive chef/owner greeted us warmly and spent time with us before and after the meal. The food was prepared to order and both veal dishes were delicious and came with vegetable, salad and side of pasta. So much food that I had to take the entire pasta dish home with me. The price point for the quality and quantity of the food they serve is exceptionally fair if not underpriced. Wait staff was engaging and courteous. I will definitely return on my next trip to Troy.

As a child up until my early w0s i frequented his business the Sign of the Tree at the Empire State Plaza. We would go for the ambiance, the consistently delicious food and beautiful presentation of each and every detailed dish. It was my Mother and I’s special space. I have been lucky. yes lucky enough to have had their amazing appetizers and entrees on more then one occasion. Believe the hype they are fabulous!!! Michael LoPorto and his staff deliver delicious decadence that makes your heart sing with each bite. From their mozzarella balls which are perfectly prepared and deliver a crunch served with the delicious sauce on the side, to their mouth watering chicken parmesan gently tucked under a fresh and flavorful marinara sauce. it doesn’t stop there. The desserts the apertiffs the pasta all made fresh all the time. When I heard about them participating in Restaurant Week I jumped at the chance to come out and try their specials. I ordered their New England Clam Chowder and almost fell off my chair. there were huge pieces of potato and delicious chunks of clam in a delicate cream broth… i wiped the bowl clean with their fresh baked bread and paired it with a glass of Riesling. I have had clam chowder everywhere you can imagine… Once again LoPorto’s has blown me away. They have some great specials right now so get to Troy!!! Hurry up! You can come anytime for their other specials but during Restaurant week they have some amazing specials.

We had a great evening of food and service. My brothers and I were on our annual retreat and a friend suggested we have dinner here. The sole was perfectly prepared. The filet au poive was excellent. We had a nice bottle of Pinot to accompany the meal. We would definitely recommend.

A wonderful staple of Troy. Excellent service– the best authentic Italian cuisine. I had the prosciutto/mozzarella appetizer which was delicious. For dinner I had the cold mixed seafood salad. The picture does not do it justice. I took more than half home with me. It was priced at $ 24.95. I enjoyed a glass of Semi– sweet Reisling with it. My husband and I split the appetizer. It was perfect for 2 people as dinners are large. He had the Veal Parmigiana. It wasn’t overly breaded and was very tender. The sauce was delicious and as an Italian I rarely like a restaurant sauce. His dinner came with a salad. The entrée was $ 22.00. He had a nice glass of Pinot Noir– very reasonably priced. We were too full for dessert but NEXT time I intend to try some. I did, however, finish up with a delicious cup of cappuccino.

Came here with my wife before Troy Night Out. Very unique, old school atmosphere. The wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly. I ordered the chicken parm and my wife ordered shrimp diavolo. She has ordered this at other restaurants and has been disappointed at the lack of heat. She was very excited when the waiter asked her how hot she’d like it. The food was amazing. Really it was some of the best Italian I’ve had. The sauce and pasta(normally pushed to the side for me) must have been made on site because both were very fresh, flavorful, and finished by the end of the meal. Our entrees were both very good and we left stuffed, AND with leftovers. It’s a little pricier than the run-of-the-mill Italian restaurant but you get what you pay for. We will be back!

Feast for the ages. Had a great spot outside where I could enjoy a cigar. Seafood anti pasta was on point. So was the spicy seafood platter with linguine. Shrimp, scallops, squid, mussels, clams, longnecks. All cooked perfect. Great bread for dipping in the spicy tomato sauce, whose heat sneaks up on you. But not in a bad way.

Plain and simple. Great italian and a great menu. One of the biggest steaks around. Escargot is inedible. A authentic Italian red sauce you can actually eat and enjoy!

We went to Lo Porto for dinner to celebrate my sisters birthday and I was so pleased that this was her choice as her favorite restaurant in town. The owner greeted us and spent a little time chatting before we started our meal. We started with a fresh salad and I tried and enjoyed the citrus dressing. They cracked fresh pepper and they grated the Parmesan cheese for the salad. I had the Shrimp Michael with linguini. It is made with a pink sauce that is excellent and not too rich. My family was generous enough and I also had the opportunity to sample two other meals, one with scallops and a filet mignon. Oh my, they were all so good. This is a place I would come back to many time a year if I was a local. My husband enjoyed his meal and enjoyed the private room that they use for larger groups. My niece put in a special order for a broiled chicken breast which was cooked to perfection The atmosphere is lovely with Italian paintings on the wall. I would call it casual chic. This is the perfect place for family, groups or a romantic dinner for two. The servers are knowledgable efficient and friendly

The red sauce is amazing. I had the eggplant parmigiana open faced sandwich. I asked them to make it spicy and they added just the right heat. Huge portion…

Went on a double date here during Restaurant week. My boyfriend, though living in Troy for 10+ years, had never been and is originally from Utica and therefore obsessed with italian food. Everyone got the $ 30 restaurant week special which included one app, one entrée and one dessert except for me which I got my ol’ italian stand-by linguine and clam sauce. Overall, the service was awesome and the food was pretty good. The place was pleasant, very sort of «old world» with the blood red tablecloths and the very dim lighting. It’s also much deeper and bigger once you enter. After running/walking by this place a few times I think the only indicator that it was a functioning restaurant were the smoking regulars on the outside patio. Like others have mentioned the house red tasted exactly like nothing, but still got us all toasty. Walking home all I could think of was«wow that wine just sort of evened me out.» So, taste not so great, effect was awesome. Everyone loved everything we got, the bread was plentiful, my salad(that comes with the pasta) wasn’t memorable(maybe you can blame the wine I honestly don’t even remember what dressing I got). I got a side of the evening veggie(carrots, green beans and zucchini) which was sitting in about 2⁄3 cup of vegetable oil. Once drip dried, the veggies were generally overcooked but palatable. My linguine and clam sauce was perfect and honestly way way too big. The clams were soft but not squishy and the sauce had great flavor, no need to pepper or cheese. Also 14.50 for my food(which includes a salad) is an impressive price. I finished about 30% of it and as the server took my plate to box it up he said, «wow, you did good!» and I looked at him and was like«not exactly» and he was like, «no, really, you did better than most and I say this from years of experience.» I left there feeling proud of my stomach and all the pasta I can put away. The other guests liked their meals as well. My discerning boyfriend said it was great and he would come again but he’s had better italian elsewhere(haven’t we all?!). Why not try it? It’ll keep you full for days at least!

Husband and I went here to try something new since we are fairly new to the area. Atmosphere was nice, and the waiter Chris was attentive. The food however, was not the best. I ordered the chicken cordon bleu and the penne noodles were not even cooked. The mushroom sauce was very salty. The chicken was good however. My husband had the chicken Parmesan. His noodles were a little more cooked than mine but he wasn’t impressed either. We probably won’t be back.

Been a couple of years since I’ve had dinner here. Used to be a solid red sauce joint you could count on for a reasonable pre show meal in downtown Troy. Not so much anymore based on a recent visit. Tasteless veal, over cooked pasta and a very weak, over priced wine selection. Is there anything left in Troy besides barbecue and frat bars?

I’ve driven down 4th street dozens of times and I’ve never noticed this place existed until we went for dinner. It just blends in with all the storefronts and closed businesses. Upon entering it appears small and old fashioned but there is much more seating in the back. The restaurant is very casual yet the menu is quite expensive for the area. But like others have said, portions are huge. Some of the biggest I’ve ever seen. Since it was my birthday dinner and my parents were paying I ordered the Seafood Fra Diavolo which was $ 41. I’m not kidding when I say this was so big it was served on a platter rather than a plate and had more seafood than pasta. Unfortunately I didn’t find the food itself as impressive as the portion sizes. Bigger is not always better. The sauce was thin and the seafood was just mediocre. I also tried some of the fried calamari which looked great but just tasted kinda bland. I did however enjoy the leftovers slightly more than my original meal.
