Awful food and awful service. We ordered food online to be delivered to work. We clicked lunch special and ordered our food also called to confirm what came in lunch special. Food was delivered with no rice at all. we were told when me called that when you order online that it doesn’t go through as lunch special not only did we not get what we ordered there is no flavor to the food It is digusting. I would recommend kims, sushi café or Bangkok in the area instead unless of course you want flavorless flood as well as not getting what you ordered or customer service

Nice online ordering through their website, prices are lower than others. Tried the Szechuan Chicken, It was ok, had better, had worse. Wonton soup was ok. Ordered Med spicy, seemed more like mild. Very Nice packaging of the food. I like the table they have for«do it your self» plastic ware, soy sauce, hot mustard, etc so you don’t have to bother them for such things.

I’ve ordered from here multiple times in the past few months. Food hasn’t been bad, yet service has been on the crappy side. The woman who always answers it not only rude, she’s flat out hateful. Tonight was the last time I will spend money here. I called at 9:32 to order CHICKEN lo mein and general Tao chicken. She told me it would be 10 – 15 minutes. I’m 9 weeks pregnant so I lost track of time and left my house at 9:50. As I was leaving she called me back with an attitude saying, «Are you going to come get your food? It’s been over 30 minutes.» I looked at my call log and it had been about 20 min. I live 5 min away, and they didn’t close until 11:00! Who cares when I pick my MY food that I’M PAYINGFOR! Even is she was calling to make sure I was still coming, her attitude was shit let alone the fact that she cannot tell time. It saddens me know that this is not the first Chinese restaurant to be so rude for no reason at all. To top it off, when I got home and opened my CHICKEN lo mein, it not only has beef in it, but pork and shrimp as well. Thank heavens I’m not allergic to shell fish or they might be in for a law suit. Good Riddance China King Express

I was too hungry to upload a picture but the lunch menu is EXCELLENT! This is by far the crispiest, lightest Almond Chicken I’ve ever tasted. Seriously, I was expecting the food to be blegh because of the low price($ 5.88 including tax) but wow was I mistaken. Keep in mind that the food portion is pretty small given the lunch option, but hey, for less than $ 6 this meal was tasty and filling! One downside is that don’t give a free soup and eggroll as most Chinese restaurants do :(

This place is so yummy. I like to order online. The fried rice that comes with the dinner or combo is very yummy. I would definitely recommend this place. i like to get the Almond Boneless.

Horrible food, horrible service. Had never been here before, was craving Chinese food, figured I would give it a try since Mui’s is closed for a couple of days. Got some crab Rangoon and a sesame chicken dinner. Rangoon wasn’t bad, the sauce was different than I’m used to, but not bad. Egg roll was kind of soggy, threw away half of it. Then came the sesame chicken. Tasted burnt and was so stringy that it was difficult to chew. I ended up spitting out the one bite I took. Here’s the kicker: went back to the restaurant, because I’m sorry but I can’t afford to pay for inedible food. The girl at the counter was rude and condescending, telling me «that’s how we’ve been cooking it since we opened.» So? Then they sat and looked at the box, discussing it amount themselves, before deciding not to give me a refund for the whole price of the sesame chicken dinner, because I had thrown away the egg roll rather than bringing it back. After handing me my money the girl rolled her eyes and said«anything else?» as if she were telling me to leave. Ridiculous. Never again. I wish there was a 0 star option to give them. Save yourself the frustration. Don’t even try it.

Got carry out several times that were great. Good food, nice portion size, and easy experience with a no wait pickup. This place has a simple online ordering site for delivery too!

Super fast sit-down option for dinner on a Sunday. Got the dinner for 3 for $ 27. Included egg rolls, lots of won ton soup and 3 entrees with fried rice. This place is good and doesn’t warrant its low star average.

Bad service. One time I walked in to order. Service was neither great nor terrible.(They were just kind of direct and not too friendly). When I called next week and tried to order a combo with fried rice I asked if fried rice was extra. They said yes. So I said no thanks, white rice instead. When she confirmed my order she said chicken fried rice, I told her«oh no, I’ll have white rice please» then she just shouted hold on *click*(to take another call) and I thought that was very impolite. I hung up and swung around to another restaurant. They kept calling my cell phone after that. Boy am I glad I switched restaurants. Quicker food, nicer people, better value than this place!!! As far as the food the crab wontons were decent but bourbon chicken was dried out, burnt, and sauce was not tasty

Generous portions but not very tasty. I’ve tried them 3 times because the first time was ok but subsequent visits were terrible. Right around the corner towards Coolidge is New China and their food is fabulous.

I really need to find a better close-to-home Chinese place. Pros: Very generous portions, lots of parking, service was friendly enough. The egg rolls are very good. Cons: I’m a creature of habit, so I generally order the same thing at any given restaurant. Sue me, I know what I like, so I get it. The last three times(yes, I’m hanging my head in shame but my husband loves their Moo Shu pork) I’ve gotten their Sesame Chicken, it’s been awful. Dried-out little strings of chicken that can barely be choked down even though it’s my go-to dish at any Chinese joint… oh it makes me sad. The sauce is tasty, but turning chicken into tasteless leathery bits… I just can’t forgive it! I’m on the hunt for a new place, if anyone has any suggestions PLEASE message me!

This was, BYFAR, the worst Chinese food ever. EVER. I tried it for the first time and was devastated — SO devastated that I almost considered driving back to get a refund. Firstly, I ordered a dinner combination of almond chicken. It’s the brown gravy style — lame, nobody wants that. The chicken was so overdone that it was dry as a bone and the breading was mouth-serratingly hard. The fried rice had a strange aftertaste and had some burnt pieces of veggies in it. The amount of food I got couldn’t have been a dinner portion(it was like one moderately sized plate-full of chicken), but I was definitely charged a dinner price. All in all, I won’t go back — it was that bad.

This is Chinese takeout food — they do it well and give pretty large portions. For me that means two meals, there will be enough leftovers for lunch the next day. As with all restaurants of this type, you can expect the dishes to be greasy and overly salted. But deep down inside we all know that we love that. I’d recommend the Mongolian beef(or anything else on the lunch/dinner combo menu). Their egg foo young dishes are pretty solid. Expect to pay $ 7 – 9 for Dinners with large portions. Lunches cost a little less.

My friend and I ordered take out from this typical strip mall chinese establishment. Portions are very generous here. Service was very good and friendly. I ordered the Pod Thai with chicken. The chicken was terrible, it literally was like chewing rubber. I couldn’t eat more then one bite. The egg roll was ok. My friend ordered Chicken with Broccoli and experienced the same issue with the chicken. Maybe this was just an issue of a bad batch of chicken, but both of us were not able to get through 5 bites of this meal.

I work right by this place and had a hankering for some egg drop soup, so I decided to give it a go. It’s kind of hard to determine an appropriate ratings scale for this… let’s just be real here, little hole-in-the-stripmall Chinese-American restaurants like this are free with purchase of $ 30 or more and served with side of rice and egg roll, so to give a place like this 3 stars on the same scale in which somewhere like, ohhhhhh, Iridescence or Roast would get 5 stars just seems disproportionate. So, three stars, but not because I think it’s super-spectacular…if I thought THAT I would have doled one if not BOTH of those extra two stars, now wouldn’t I have? Chinese eateries should probably have a scale all their own(and that would include all those catch-all umbrella Chinese/Japanese/Korean/Mongolian/Thai hodgepodge places, as well as the innumerable buffets), but for the most part this is just ranking varying shades of bland. Remember this is real authentic«Chinese food» made for ‘Mericans, so the level of quality is really all relative. You know what I want from a place called China King Express? I want to be able to get General Tso’s chicken, fried rice, and egg drop soup, I want it cheap, I want it hot, and I want it fast. This place delivers on all counts. Is it the best General Tso’s I’ve ever had? No; they can’t ALL be Wok Inn now can they? But the sauce is thick and has a nice little spice to it. Ditto the Kung Pao chicken sauce(the superior of the two), which actually has a decent flavor, consistency, and spice level. As a lover of hot foods, Chinese joints tend to disappoint — perhaps the world’s perception is that Americans simply cannot handle the heat, but I’ve been to plenty of places where I’ve ordered my food«spicy» only to still have clogged sinuses at the end of my meal. At least here there’s a little kick, which is more than I can say for most. The egg drop soup is a little watery but the wontons are crispy and it all tastes good. I’m not a huge fan of egg rolls, but theirs are hot, fresh, and crispy. Everything is made-to-order so your food is always piping hot. The menu items are pretty basic but seriously, this place is called China King Express. You get precisely what you think you will; no more, no less. Coming into a place like this with high expectations would be your own mistake. The best part? It’s CHEAP. Like CHEAP cheap. You can order small or large portions(hint: the small portions are plenty big enough for dinner for one) and most dinner combos(with rice and egg roll or fried rice) are under $ 8. Order a roast pork egg roll($ 1), small egg drop soup($ 1.50) and small Kung Pao chicken($ 4.95, served with sticky rice) and BAM: dinner with leftovers for lunch for less than $ 8. It’s hot. It’s fresh. It’s filling. It tastes just fine. And it’s cheap. This place is A-OK in my book. Thus, three stars on the Chinese foooood scale. Oh, also, the little girl mentioned in previous reviews: she’s the manager’s daughter. Be sure to compliment her drawings, which adorn the walls(and on one of which she notes that she’s the manager’s daughter, «In case you didn’t know»).

I walked in here last night at just shy of 11, for some reason they were still open. A little girl, no more than 11 herself, rang me up — I thought this was a little weird, but I know lots of chinese takeout places like these are basically family businesses. Usually these little owner-run hole-in-the-wall kinda places are great, so I figured I’d take the chance. No dice, though. It was late and I was tired, so I went really simple and ordered some mongolian beef with fried rice. The entire affair was decidedly lackluster and kind of bland. I figure, how hard is it to do a poor job of mongolian beef? It’s sliced beef with green and white onions. I don’t know what all was in this dish — there may have been beans at some point. It was hot and it was food, which were really my only criteria for the night by that point, so I guess there’s that, but ultimately I think a guy could do better. I’d be willing to chalk part of it up to the fact that it was an hour past when they claim to close, as I’d discovered, but the folks inside didn’t turn me away, though with a big neon ‘OPEN’ sign out front I’d have been surprised if they had. Either way, there’re better alternatives for Chinese in the metro Detroit area, and that’s saying something. Spend your money elsewhere.

Once again, life would be simpler with a ½ star feature here on Unilocal, but I digress… the deciding factor between 2 and 3 stars came to egg drop soup. Looking to satisfy a craving for local chinese that my heart(and stomach) have longed for since Golden Ball closed and I didn’t feel like trekking down to Ferndale to China Ruby, I thought I’d give China King Express another shot. I had the dinner combination of General Tso’s chicken and it was rather lackluster. I opted for fried rice because really, if you’re going to OD on sodium, may as well go all out, right? The fried rice left me longing for more, more flavor, more vegetables, maybe an egg in there like other fried rice dishes I’ve seen before? Portions were on the small side compared to other places, and like I said, the deciding factor was egg drop soup, I prefer a thicker, yellow-er soup over the bland, watery container. Prices were pretty average, there was no one else in there except a young girl eating some soup(maybe 6 – 7 years old, I suspect a relative of whoever was working) and the place was COLD! So, the quest continues…

I like china king a whole bunch. This is my go-to Chinese takeout place. I work in Troy and finding a $ 5 lunch is hard to do, finding a great-tasting, fairly healthy $ 5 lunch is almost impossible, but China King has it. I suggest the Szechuan Shrimp or Chicken. They also have good beef with broccoli, general tso’s, and all that, but I like the Szechuan best. On the weekends sometimes my wife and I take our 3 kids here. They are really young(3 – 5) and we can feed the whole family for less than $ 20. Kids love Sweet and Sour Chicken! If I owned China King, I might put some bottles of juice in the cooler(or juice boxes). Health-conscious people or people with kids might buy them if they did. I think China King is comparable to China Ruby in Ferndale, and China Ruby was my go-to place for 15 years. I might have rated China King as a five-star because people seem to dish out five-star ratings like water on Unilocal, but let’s be honest, the best any takeout Chinese place gets is 4 stars.

China King Express is a pretty typical take-out joint that serves nominally Chinese fare. Like so many little Chinese take-out places in both suburban and urban America, you’ll find your combination specials served with fried rice or steamed rice and egg roll. You can get your wonton soup, egg drop soup, hot & sour soup. You can have your chow mein and chop suey. You can have your lo mein. Kung Pao this, Moo Shu that. Both General Tso’s Chicken and Lemon Chicken are in the house. Yeah. It’s that kind of place. That being said, it’s my go-to restaurant for that type of thing. Honestly, this is partly driven by proximity. There are a few other such places close to where I live, but this one seems to be one of the better ones. It also has hours that are convenient for me. Have enjoyed their Subgum Wonton Soup, their House Special Fried Rice, their Beef with Broccoli, their Happy Family, and their steamed dumplings. The food is tasty enough. The service is fast enough. The staff are nice enough. Plus, they’re open until 10 most days and until 11 on Friday and Saturday. That’s helpful when one has an erratic schedule like I do. Now, if only they delivered. :)
