Great hair cut and stylist was very professional. I have long think hair and she really had her work cut out. I am very pleased with the results. I will go back for sure.

I’ve gone here a few different times. It looks like a trendy salon in the mall, but this place hires absolute idiots. Two times I went there, was just for an eyebrow wax. The first time, was an older woman with dark hair and acted like I wasn’t worth her time, just because all I wanted was an eyebrow wax. It wasn’t even that great, because when I was finished, I left with wax gunk still in the eyebrow. Another time I went there, was for another wax. I made sure it wasn’t the same woman, but this time it was a younger woman. A little younger than me, and when she asked me how I’d like em done, she really misunderstood me when I said, «cleaned up a bit around my natural shape». She misunderstood that, and entirely re-​shaped my eyebrows. She literally ripped the hair out of one of the eyebrows, I remember even hearing her gasp! I looked like I had an eyebrow raised the entire time, until I got home and had to fill it in with eyeliner till it grew out. But the last time I was there, was my worst experience when I got a basic haircut from the male hairstylist (he’s tall, has some facial hair…), The only reason why I went back, was because someone I know recommended him. But then I realized she only knew him as a friend, not a stylist. He must have a lot of friends, cause he couldn’t keep them away… Well, first of all, the entire time I was there, he was acting like «what are you doing here?» It wasn’t that he was trying to act rude, but he acted like he didn’t want me there at all. He wouldn’t talk to me, and if I tried talking to him, he would act like he doesn’t know why I’m talking to him. He’d just give me a weird look and say «what?» after everything I’d say. I’d be trying to make basic conversation, but he would be very short with me the entire time. He would only give me short answers and then just act like he doesn’t wanna be bothered. Then when I tried to show him a picture of the style of hair I usually get done, he barely looked at it and then when I offered to show him the picture again, he refused to look at it. Then, he had a friend come in… His friend, who seemed like the typical «tool/​thug» guy, comes in and sits in an empty stylists chair next to him. This stylist is the only person in the entire salon (no other stylists), so my stylist is acting like «yay, you saved me! :D» So, my stylist completely ignores me as a client, and just sits there and chit chats with his friend, while he’s disregarding the fact that I’m there, even though he’s still doing my hair. All his friend did, was sit there and talk about how much he didn’t like his girlfriend and how his gf was such a b****, and my stylist just sat there and laughed about his friends gf with him. Every time I would cut in to say something, he would act like I interrupted them, and say «what?» Huh?” «What’s that?» I felt it was very rude and disrespectul, obviously! Then, when the awkward experience was over, the stylist was finishing up with my hair, and he was just acting like he was unsure about everything I was saying… and when he was finally finished, the cut was «alright», but not like the normal cut I asked for… I don’t understand the problem, because its not a difficult style to achieve. Its the cut I always get, every time I get my hair cut. I often get it cut by different stylists, since my main stylist moved away. Every stylist I’ve gone to understood what I was going for. But not him… I understand he was too busy and distracted, but his «trim» wasn’t exactly the right style I always go for. So I guess 3 times is the charm, and I’ll never go back to Mia & Maxx, not even for a wax…

I just had to express what an excellent stylist I found at Mia & Maxx Hair Salon in the Grand Traverse Mall. Joanie was fantastic! She took her time, didn’t rush; asked me throughout the process how I wanted things done continuously (that is a new experience) and the cut was fantastic. She also was a wonderful conversationalist. I had only went to Mia & Maxx because my usual stylist was unavailable, but after experiencing a cut with Joanie I think I found a new stylist. Thanks Joanie — I will be back! :)
