I missed my hair appointment at home right before our trip to Traverse City. While I’m not one to just wander in off the street and ask for a haircut while on vacation, my hair was driving me so crazy that’s exactly what I did! From the time I walked in the door until I walked out with a great new hair style, Beth did a fantastic job of listening and giving me a fantastic new look and making me feel right at home. Thank you so much Beth!

I had a great experience at allure, and highly recommend Kelsey for highlights! I’m new to town and really picky about my hair color(natural dark brunette and hair tends to turn reddish when lightened, which I hate). I called last minute and they were able to fit me in for a cut and highlights the following morning. I was running 10 min late but Kelsey still took the time to discuss exactly what I wanted and did prefect, well-placed, natural-looking highlights, and did not rush at all. She also chose a great toner and got me to exactly the color I was hoping for. She also did a great job with my cut. I’m so happy to have found a great salon and stylist on my first try– the last time we moved I went to four or five salons before finding a place I liked. I know this makes me sound high-maintenance but just want to illustrate how happy I was with my experience at allure.

Fantastic! I have had recommendations for several of the stylists from community members, and I see Missy regularly. I have curly, coarse, difficult, long hair and I walk out with glossy head turning style. Also I am able to duplicate the style at home because Missy patiently teaches me the best, quickest, healthiest way to style my hair as she is styling it. I find her knowledgeable and she is wonderful at recommending the best cut for my hair type, face and lifestyle. I felt I knew a lot about hair but I always learn something new from Missy, she is professional and enthusiastic and I throughly enjoy my time in her chair. Thank you Missy, I love my hair! Kelli S.

I didn’t purchase anything– cut or color, clothing, or products. This is simply because I went in the door during the art walk. I just like the«vibe.» Yeah sure, I probably say that too much. But, hey it’s my intuition and I shall trust it, for now. Prices… well I didn’t look, as I wasn’t needing anything. I liked the clothes okay, decent selection of face/hair products. Salon seemed nice, though I’m more a ‘just trim the dang hair’ person. Nothing too experimental or dare I say, chic. If it’s your thing, I think they might do a good job, if I ever have cause to report back, I will.

Slow, Sloppy, and Expensive I went there for a mani-pedi while visiting the area from out of town. It took more than two hours for a standard pedicure and a shellac manicure. The manicurist cut my finger while trimming my nails and then overcompensated, leaving the rest of the nails longer than the ones she’d already trimmed. She also did a very sloppy job applying the nail polish: after each application, she attempted to clean the sides with a cuticle stick and acetone, and that in the end, she left ragged edges to the polish: the sides of my nails are only half-polished, and the thumb nail has a big dent in the middle of the shellac. And, they charged $ 100! They might be ok for haircuts, I don’t know, but I would never go back for nail services.

I can say without hesitation that Andrea at Allure gave me the best highlights I have had in the decade or so that I have been coloring my hair. The cut she gave me is also outstanding. I have been living in major US and European cities and was hesitant to go to a salon in my home town… but I will now be finding reasons to come back to TC so that this can be my primary salon. All of the staff were friendly and professional. The space itself was nicely decorated, clean, and full of Aveda products.

I have gone to Allure since… my second hair cut after I moved to Traverse City. I will just say, that first place was not the best. Ashland and Bob at the front desk always greet w a sincere smile. Micha is my stylist, and he is a color genius. We have had a ton of fun trying a variety of colors, and I love them all. He is always willing to give styling tips. I have tried other salons for spa treatments with girlfriends but I always return to Allure. The staff is so warm and welcoming, the environment is beautiful and relaxing, and their pricing is similar to other high end salons in the area. I am really looking forward to taking my bridal party to Allure.

Eeek, Salon Allure’s gotten a bit big for their britches… The morning of my good friend’s wedding. Four bridesmaids and the mother of the groom trek to Salon Allure for some high falutin’, super stylin’ hair flair. Armed with muffins, fruit and champagne, this was to be a few hours to relax before the madness… Salon Allure has a BEAUTIFUL new space. Relaxing, classic, smooth and contemporary. Nestled in an up-and-coming stretch of Union Street… it’s poised to pamper. Nice digs. The good… Heather did my hair and the hair of one other bridesmaid. She was talkative, congenial, gave me the perfect«country club» poof hair. A little bit fancy, but mostly I looked myself, but a grown up. She even hid my streak(for the most part), and I’m sure the bride appreciated that ;) She curled the hell out of the other girl’s hair… looked beautiful. The bad: The rest of the staff just seemed terribly unenthused. It was disappointing. The girl that did two of the girl’s hair was hardly friendly, borderline curmudgeonly. But, whatever… it is what it is, and then… we got the bill. I am sorry, my friends. If you are going to charge $ 95 for a pretty novice looking updo, you best do it with a damn smile. $ 95. I was in SHOCK. ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. None of them took over 40 minutes. My blowdry style: $ 45 3 updos: $ 95/pop Mother of the Groom: $ 80 So we are talking, around $ 500 with tip to basically rearrange some hair. Make an effort. SERIOUSLY. So, basically… this place needs to get over itself… or step up to the plate with better work and better service.(this excludes Heather, she was great). But 50 percent still equals: pretty lacking. 3 stars is generous, as it may have been an off day. But hey, your friend only gets married once, and I don’t live here anymore… so one chance is all they get… we could’ve gotten better styles at JC Penny for almost HALF the price.
