I really wanted to like this place. I had high hopes when I walked in. It looks good inside, clean and welcoming. You can check out the pizza behind the glass up front and the salad bar off in the corner. I even saw a few beer taps and I wasn’t expecting that for a pizza joint. Well as it turns out this was more then a pizza joint. The menu is pretty large offering all your typical Italian restaurant items and then some. As a food explorer, I went with the tour of Sicily. This comes with lasagna, manicotti, and chicken parm. In my head I’m expecting something like the tour of Italy from Olive Garden. Not even close. Out comes this massive round plate with turned up bowl like edges. Inside looks like soup covered with cheese, the broth in this case was red sauce. I actually fought the sauce and cheese the entire time. I had the keep moving it around looking for the food underneath. It wasn’t until about half way through that I actually found the manicotti under the lake of sauce and mounds of cheese. I was really disappointed. From what I could taste other then sauce and cheese, the chicken was overlooked. The manicotti pasta had tough edges, but the filling was good. The lasagna wasn’t good. It was actually waterlogged, to the point where I felt like I could have wrong it out like a sponge. I could have sworn this was from it being frozen then defrosted. However the manager did say it was made the day before and assured me they make everything in house. Take that for what it’s worth. I’m leaving two stars, the salad bar was good. There was enough to pick from and some items I wasn’t expecting like fruit salad and antipasto salad. The service was also good, friendly and attentive enough.

So we’re off to find another restaurant for lunch and end up at the Original Italian Pizza and Ristorante, a little place on the side of route 6. Walking in, the atmosphere is a smaller place that is dimly lit, better suited to evening dining than lunch. Self seating leads to a booth where the benches are pushed in too far to sit! Moving on I glance at the pizza display, I notice the place is clean but the selection doesn’t impress. Sitting down with the drink order in, the menu shows one glaring flag, the prices. Prices in the Towanda area are a little high, but this place is pretty expensive even by those standards. I order the baked ziti with ground beef and ricotta, and make my way to the salad bar. The selection is unimpressive. Sitting again, I find that while the selection was limited, the quality wasn’t bad. Nice little salad and warm bread, things are looking up. Then I get this very large plate of ziti. Very large. With a ton of cheese. Okay, maybe not a ton, but it was a thick layer across the top, with some poor smothered ziti poking their heads through for air. Digging in, I free the ziti from their dairy prison, they are decently cooked with a nice sauce and plenty of ricotta. The flavor isn’t bad, but the dish is very filling, and I could only get about half of it down before surrendering. Service-wise, the service wasn’t exceptional, but neither was it bad. Friendly enough, not overdone my big ding on the whole experience was the value vs cost, if it were a few dollars cheaper I really wouldn’t have much cause for complaint. I wouldn’t return, as thre are better options nearby, but if it was any port in a storm I would drop anchor and tuck in.

I’ve been to the O.I.P several times over the years. I’ve never been a big fan of their food or service. I used to enjoy food from their special Mexican Menu but they no longer have that as an option. Positives: They have alcohol and it’s typically clean. Negatives: Food isn’t great and service is terrible. Last time I went there for dinner with my boyfriend, he ordered cheese fries and few slices of pepperoni pizza. The fries are your typical frozen fries smothered in the typical canned nacho cheese. The pizza was dried out, and the bottom of the crust was burnt. Even the pepperonis were over cooked and burnt on the edges. I ordered a dozen hot wings(first time I’ve ever tried their wings). They were some of the worst wings I’ve ever had. Very tiny with no meat and the sauce was clearly just a bottle of Reds Hot-sauce dumped on top, with a ton of the grease leftover from the wings. Gross and no flavor! Expect waitresses who won’t pay attention to you unless you are a man.

Stopped in this location because I was in the area for business and it was close to the hotel I was staying in. I ordered 2 garlic knots. I didn’t even eat ½ of the 1st one — it was greasy, over seasoned, and too chewy, almost soggy. I threw them out. The sandwich(ham & cheese) was better but still sort of disappointing. The meat and cheese were room temperature and didn’t taste really fresh. It was a good size for the price, and service was quick. I was really hoping this would be a good little local place, since it’s a small town, but I would rather drive further out to get something that was better. Wouldn’t recommend their sandwiches, but there was a small crowd eating sit-down dinners, so maybe you are better off with a hot meal at this place.
