Came here with a group for my friend’s birthday, and we got pretty excited for the free shot(with purchase of a cocktail). About 3 of us did the Unilocal check-in, but the bartender gave each person in our group of 11 a whip it shots. It was surprisingly really good! Cocktails were good and well crafted, the crowd was really nice(birthday shout out from the DJ to the birthday boy), they put up with us singing«Happy Birthday» a bunch of times, and a couple of kind strangers bought our friend a drink. Highlight of the night? Definitely the random guy in the Stormtrooper outfit. A-OK for now, but I’m sure it won’t be long before I’m a fan.

A Torrance classic. I usually run into people I went to high school with here. Nothing has changed much, but they did remodel it to be a bit more glam. There’s a pool table, dance floor, tv screen and a dj. Depending on the day and dj, they play a good mix of 90s. The bar is fully stocked. Cool, chill vibe. My only gripe is there’s only one bathroom here!

Best drinks, best people to randomly hang out with(because you’re drunk). Best service and the best music is played on Saturdays, in my personal opinion. Though the dance floor isn’t that big, it’s still somewhat cozy. There seems to always be open seats so it’s not that bad. Parking is free. But the drinks are what makes me come back.

Great establishment in area that you would not expect to find this place. Has a Hollywood feel to it and very trendy. They have some of the best mixologist and offer a wide selection of great mixed drinks. The music is also on point, and makes you want to keep dancing. They also have a pool table which is great for those that may not want to dance. Overall I like the place a lot. Definitely recommend!

Nice bartender on my only visit there, seem to have friendly locals as regulars there, only draw back for me is it seemed like a younger 20ish crowd, and the cocktails were small & over priced…

This place used to be really cool. Cool bartenders and kind of dive-y. Then they remodeled and tried really hard to make it fancier. All the previous bartenders left and now they’re trying to make this place like the Edison DTLA. It’s just not the right area for this. With that said, the new bartenders were really helpful with drink selection and they were making some pretty tasty drinks. Prices went up after remodel but a lot of the décor stayed the same. This place just looks confused now.

Southland is a very good place to chill. We come here a lot after work. Friendly vibe and cozy atmosphere. Play pool or beer pong if you want. They don’t give you cheap liquor for their cocktails. They mix it very good and priced very well. If you want a place to chill or just unwind after work or go crazy drinking in the weekend, then this is the spot.

I was actually pretty impressed by this place. It’s located in a non-descript strip of shops. I initially thought it was a dive bar, but once we entered I was greeted by pleasant décor and a clean environment. We were able to bring in our own food, which to me is a plus! They have plenty of seating(bar tops, stools, and couches). It was definitely a good time, it started off as a bar, moved up as a lounge, and then… it turned into a club!!! All in one visit lol, I know that sounds funny but it wasn’t funny, it was FUN! The plus this all in one venue is you’re bound to fit in.

Love the décor. A bit vintage yet modern. An eclectic place to just relax. Drinks are moderately priced. Nothing expensive compared to other places I attend. One thing I will critic hardly is the old fashion. Usually made with a good rye or bourbon such a bullet or knob creek, woodford, etc… This place made it with jack Daniel’s. Which is by far the worst selection in making an old fashion. I’ve had them from England to New York to L. A and other worldly places. So far this ranks low. But they do use a single large cube which is given credit for and proper bitters and sugar. Just don’t use Jack Daniel’s.

Came on Saturday late after work Southland is a high energy club-esque bar Packed with middle aged patrons from the local area Drinks — No real value or quality. The bartenders spent so much time mixing and giving attention to our drinks, she even set my old fashion on fire, I was highly disappointed with the end result. Also one of the young ladies made my friend a mojito with Coconut Malibu Rum(I’m not sure if this was a mistake, but I was not a fan) Music — A great mix of late 90’s to modern jams(mostly hip-hop and R&B) Atmosphere/Environment– The bar top is beautiful, 2 televisions, a pool table, and a dance floor/mingle area filled with booths and tables Verdict — First and foremost this is a bar so I have some expectations for their drinks, which underwhelmed. All things being equal this is a great local spot, I really hope their bar service improves.

I always like going South; somehow, it feels like going downhill… — Treebeard You must understand, young drinkers, it takes a long time to craft a cocktail like the old days. And you should never drink a cocktail unless it is worth taking a long time to make… After a bud(ling?) and I ate a huge prime rib at the ye auld San Franciscan, I thought to myself… I could use a fine cocktail… not a mash of booze and industrial mixer… But a fine one… Longingly I looked at the distance to DTLA(Varnish, Broadway Bar, Perch, etc)… So very unEnt like I gambled at Unilocal search for a speakeasy/cocktail bar in the area… Low and behold Southland popped up… A pleasant surprise to find this place literally around the corner, we trudged in… It was dark and stormy inside with various woodland creatures stuffed or nailed to the wall… The tenders of the bar were dressed to the nines… Men in vests and tie, Women in… womanly clothing(I don’t know women’s clothing)… They had a drink menu that had your standard issue craft and unique cocktail listing with a description of the ingredients to boot… Whenever an element such as FIRE is listed as an ingredient, you know you are on the right trail. We watched the bartender(mixologist… is that the politically correct term these days?) make our vices… Making a cocktail isn’t rocket science, but it isn’t basket weaving either… When the mixologuese(I made that up) wrongly added a whole egg to the Whisky Sour instead of just the white, I was going to politely bring attention to it as I wasn’t in the mood for a Flip… The master’tender saw this and quickly corrected it… He mentioned to me they just opened the night before and were in the process of training mixologueses(I am going to copyright that word)… No harm no foul… Better dead than red I always say… They reaccomplished the cocktail and in no time I had my wonderful Whisky Sour… and indeed it was wonderful. As it was still early in the evening, the bartenders were quite chatty with us… Spilling info such as the juices are juiced daily, the ginger syrup is gingered fresh, and their want to become a haven for those in need of great cocktail as well as an ice cold beer… swoon. The night went on and as I finished my last drink, another bartender/mixologist appeared with features strong, manly, and commanding; his temper reserved and serious; his countenance grave, composed, sensible… There was in his whole appearance an unusual dignity and gracefulness which at once secured him profound respect, and cordial esteem… He seemed born to create cocktails for his fellow human… and so he did. He created for us the greatest Gimlet known to man… The merengue on top was a sight and taste to behold… the Gin of fine quality and limes of tart repute. Well done Southland… Well done indeed… I give this place 5 saluds…

Just visited the newly remodeled southland and I must say its a lot more lighter than I remember. The bartenders are dressed more nicer and classier. More varieties of alcohol are available and they now show what kind of spirits they sell. Very impressed with the newly remodeled southland, still remains my go to bar!!!

A friend showed me this place awhile back. But now I’ve adopted as my little drinking spot, especially when I need a change of scenery. I’m thrilled it’s open again! And the remodel looks great. The dj is good, and there’s always stuff to watch on the TVs. Not to mention the staff are amazing! The bartenders are so sweet and conversational and pretty much know what I’m going to order before I sit down at the bar. My friend was awesome for showing it to me, and I look forward to getting more drinks here.

*SMH* From what I remember of this place, it reminded me of the aborted bastard child of the famed V20 in Long Beach, especially with the mostly Asian demographic of customers this place has. From the outside, it looks like a cool restaurant with that huge Olde English with a twang of the Bone, Thugs-N-Harmony capital style«S» in the front with the bWo background lighting accents. Once you go inside, it looks like a glorified man room. If I wanted to go to a man room, I’d hang out at a friend’s house for free. LOL at the females who complained about them having only 1 restroom stall for them… damn. The DJs(most of them, but not all) were the same ol’ mostly egotistical laptop bearing«disc jokeys» who get paid to press«PLAY» while not having any kind of personality, MC and/or promoting skills, it seemed. Sorry, sir… we were all too busy paying attention to the games playing on the nice TVs they have, so turn off your top 40 cookie cutter playlist and let us enjoy being social. I give this place 2 stars, because the bartenders are/were always nice… hell, they had way more personality and character than 99% of their DJs… and many customers STILL don’t tip the bartenders here! Will I give this place another chance? Maybe… but there’s so many other spots to drink these days, it’s like… WHY?

My friend brought us here for a girls night out on a Saturday. She had this brilliant idea to come here at 9pm to get parking. We got parking. The place was dead. Things didn’t «pick up» until around 11pm. Once it did get picked up… it was disappointing. The general age here seemed like 21(and some of them looked like they’re from high school). It was not cool. Especially when you’re gettin’ HIT-UP by 21 year-old boys. We scurried on out of there by 12:30am. Our bartender Alicia(big KUDOS) was the saving grace. The drinks are cheap(under $ 10) and good. However both Georgia Peach and the White Gummy Bear were a bit sweet.

This is my boy Matt Okada’s favorite spot! We were tryna plan a Vegas trip and he was like«Nawww let’s turn up at Southland instead!» I was like«N*gga what???» He was like«There’s a spot in Torrance that’s better than 1Oak» I was like«N*gga what???» He was like«Don’t believe me just watch…» So we went to Southland on a Friday night, skipped the line(VIP), went straight to the couch(free table), and popped champagne with like 15 sexy Asian and Latina girls. DJ played that real hip-hop all night and Xavier Henry even came thru. Southland over Vegas. Every time. Matt Okada you a genius!!!
