Coco Ichibanya has certainly changed over the years. From changing the curry sauce to adding new types of plates, some changes have been good, others bad. For a curry house, the curry sauce is the main attraction. When Coco Ichibanya first opened, they had some of the best curry sauce I’ve ever had, but several years ago, they changed the composition and it lost its richness. When I went recently, apparently their curry sauce is no longer beef based? I don’t know whether that’s good or not but my curry was mediocre at best. They also have been getting more stingy with their portions; I used to eat 60% of my curry then take the rest home, but now I finish all my curry and still feel a little hungry. They’re certainly not afraid to show their stinginess either, with visibly smaller portions on tinier plates. Their waiters are kind people but it’s easy to tell that they are inexperienced and a little distracted. From inattentiveness to straight up dropping one of our orders, we had to be very patient for them. I wish I could give more praise to Coco Ichibanya but I just have a hard time justifying all their changes and price increases and blunders.

Yummy food&good service ! It’s been 2 years I haven’t been here. And I see some changes on the menu(oh yes, more to pay) my friend and I ordered fried chicken omelet and it was really good ! I’ve only been to CurryHouse thesedays and I might switch it to CoCoIchiban. I loved the omelet curry a lot ! The omelet was so soft, and the fried chicken curry were all so yummy ! Mid spicy level 2 was for me. I’ll be back soon!

Luckily this place was open for Christmas day, otherwise we’d be a very hungry hungry pack of 10! There was no wait when we stopped by and we were seated immediately. I’ve actually had this on my list for awhile, just to try if I’m ever in the area. I thought it was just a-ok! I opted for a salad with potato salad as well, along with the vegetable curry with added vegetable croquettes. For spice level I went with level 5… which wasn’t very spicy in my opinion. My sister tried the 10 and thought I would enjoy it a lot more. Her tip for asking about spice level from now on? Ask the servers/waiters if they think sriracha is spicy! Sriracha is like ketchup to my sisters and I, so… dot dot dot. Definitely going to take that into consideration next time! Overall, the food didn’t leave much of an impression on me, but I’m glad I got to finally try it.

Always a great place to go to for a quick bite in the Torrance area! Love their selections and wonderful drink items that they serve. You can customize your curry dishes however you like! Spicy, large, extra rice… It’s totally up to you! Love their chicken katsu plate! Also enjoy sharing a plate of keema curry cheese fries with my wife. They are to die for! The wait staff provide great service, but might be a bit hard to get their attention on busier days. Have fun and curry up!

Can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place yet! I come to this place whenever I crave Japanese Curry. They’ve got a few options on their menu mostly curry with different kinds of meats/veggies. I always get the chicken cutlet which is always fried perfectly crispy which comes along with white rice and curry(other options have things mixed in with the curry). The chicken is seasoned okay. It could be more tasty and people may even say it’s bland but I guess it’s because you’re supposed to eat it with the curry? I think it could still use some work(or salt). The curry is always the same which is a good thing but again, it could be a little more flavorful. This isn’t like your typical Indian or Thai curries that are super flavorful and have tons of herbs and spices. So if that’s what you’re expecting, just go to a Thai or Indian restaurant. Ordered keema fries for the first time and that was pretty delicious. I mean, fries can do no wrong in my opinion. But mixed with curry and some veggies, it was quite tasty. One thing I don’t like about this place is that they have extra charges for different spicy levels. I don’t know, that’s just weird to me. I know I said I come here all the time when I’m craving Japanese curry but still, my honest review is 3 stars. It’s definitely one of the best in the South Bay Area but I can’t help but think there must be somewhere better. Maybe in Little Tokyo?

The quality of food and service here just isn’t the same. I never had a problem before until the last two visits. Good luck with trying to call in a phone order during lunch time. It just rings and rings and rings. I ordered the spicy level 7 tofu curry plate. The spices were not mixed very well in the curry. There were just clumps of it in the sauce. I also had the curry pan(bread). I’m used to having a fluffy bread with panko on the outside and curry goodness on the inside. Non-greasy puff of bread. We ordered 5 today and three of them seemed to have been deep fried because they were drenched in oil. So gross. Must reconsider this location.

I do enjoy Japanese curry. And Coco Ichibanya does it quite well. There’s so much combinations to choose from on the menu. You can customize it to your liking. From the chicken cutlets to the beef & veggie curry, you can’t go wrong with it. I always like to start off with a basic salad. I like their sesame dressing so much, I decided to buy it(4.50 a bottle). Service is basic. Get you in, take your order, refill your drink, and get you out(in no way of rushing you). We’ll frequent this place for our«quick go-to» curry spot now that I reside in the area.

Chicken– excellent Spinach– excellent Eggplant– didn’t seem particularly fresh Rice — hard, dry, bordering unacceptable Ratio of curry to rice– quite low, lots of leftover rice with ‘normal ’ size. Service — Very good, except could not tell me what type of rice was used, even after consulting manager. They did put the check on my table as soon as I put my spoon down, which is always annoying but understandable I guess. The service call button at tables broken, sends a not-good image of restaurant maintenance. Menu is new, there are no value combinations. Combinations are shown without prices. Anyways, I ate cocoichi Japan often, maybe my standards too high.
