Food is very good. Selection of sushi is great and very fresh. Sat along the windows with a view of the golf course as the sun was setting… very nice atmosphere. Cocktails were delicious. Waitstaff were very friendly and did not feel rushed during dinner or in between courses. Will definitely be back soon.

This place is great. The food, Hong Kong Noodles, Tempura, sushi, all appetizers, desserts, the raspberry/lemon dessert, the banana tempura, all excellent. Atmosphere is so nice, many seating optiins, they aim to please. Cocktails are great, try the Mai Tai’s, it’s like you’re in the islands!

My friends and I had a wonderful dinner at Shogun last night. We all enjoyed cocktails including the yummy sake bombs. Each of us had sushi rolls and then Pad Thai which is the best I’ve had in Ocean and Monmouth County. The Baby Dragon Roll I had was very good! The service was also great as well as the ambience. I highly recommend this place for friends or date night.

I went to shogun with my Grandfather for dinner while visiting. I am going to start with the good and work to the bad. The food was very good, I had tried the seafood dried rice and got the pad thai for dinner. That were both delicious. We had ordered a few rolls each and they were all on par. The food was overall pretty great. Here is where things went bad. My grandfather had called to make a reservation for the hibachi. To our surprise when we walked in they try to seat us at a table, we had told the waiter that we had a reservation for the hibachi. He told us that they still do hibachi but they just cook it in the back now. I was rather flabbergasted by this comment sitting at a normal table and ordering food is something that can be done at any Asian joint, places that have hibachi distinguish themselves buy being able to sit around a table and have a chef make everything for you, it’s the hibachi experience. Being disappointed that I couldn’t get what I had come here for I settled for the pad Thai, which was very good, but I thought it was deceitful to agree to a reservation for hibachi, I guess I didn’t say specifically at a hibachi table, and to not say that you don’t have it anymore. In all honest this took a star off my review alone. Other issues we had involved the seating, we were sitting next to the windows, not our choice, not a bad seat. Half way through our meal another family had come in to sit next to us, and asked to waiter to open the blinds, which he did, which happened to let that golden hour sunshine right in, which was rather annoying for having to squint, the family next to use were rather toolish and just put on their sunglasses. We said something to the wait even if they just dimmed them slightly but they just told us they wanted to look out onto the golf course. I thought this was rather rude being that we were already mid meal.

The food and service is always great and we are treated so well. Lately, though, whenever we have gone the restaurant has been relatively empty and that’s a shame. It’s one of my favorite spots, especially the outdoor bar area in the summer. Great view of the golf course.

Food is excellent. Servers are very nice and considerate. Menu is a little pricy but you definitely get what you pay for. Sushi is amazing, steak is very good as well.

To start Unilocal has them as closed. They are open and the service is very polite. Not many people here for a mid afternoon lunch. Ordered some sushi and sashimi. The lettuce chicken wraps were a great appetizer. The sushi and sashimi was amazing. Tasted so fresh and well prepared. Highly recommend for any sushi lovers in the area.

Solid four stars! Great, attentive service, delicious dishes, nice atmosphere — what else could you expect? Oysters were the freshest and best! Food presentation is a solid five, although I do not share the chef’s taste for sauces, I am a traditionalist.

This is one of my favorite places in Toms River. It doesn’t have any hibachi anymore but everything in their menu that I’ve tried has been amazing from appetizers to dessert. Intimate seating with dim lighting. Absolutely love the giant fish tank when you first walk in!

NIce looking place. Stopped here b/c we couldn‘t get into Xina(needed a resv!). DIdn‘t need a resv here, and I can see why. Seems the frmr mgr here when it was BeyLea left and opened Xina. While the place is nice looking, the food quality here is below standard. One sushi roll was dry and poorly made. When we brought it to servers attn he said ‘sometimes they are like that‘ and didn‘t offer a new one or explanation(and kept it on the bill until we protested!).An oyster was bad in the raw bar, thats not tragic as sometimes that happens. The Hibachi team was entertaining, but everyone including strangers at our table, said it was waaay too salty. This place has gone downhill(I don‘t base it on this experience rather from reviews online and friends) and needs someone like Robert Levine(Kitchen Impossible etc) to come in and fix this mess. I‘d rather have supermarket sushi in my car on the side of the road than come here again.

Beyond excellent! Each roll is exceptionally crafted, and the fish is typically noticeably extremely fresh. Simply-put: it’s sushi nirvana. Frankly after trying about a dozen sushi restaurants in NJ and searching to find the best sushi in Jersey I wholeheartedly believe Shogun ranks in the top 3 for Jersey, if not the best of the state. Absolutely gorgeous renovation that transformed this into a modern art piece; in fact, the appetizers and desserts are no less amazing and no less ‘art’ than the sushi prepared with care. Along with Shogun Legends these are my two picks for favorite restaurants in the area. Both locations offer the feel of a high-end fine dining establishment in an area where it’s rare to see a restaurant offer such high-caliber atmosphere and quality. Reasonable prices too, and worth every penny.

This place is beautiful. I had never been here before [heard it used to be cheesy hibachi] but it is stunning now. The food is fantastic! It may actually replace my previous favorite, Xina. Asian ravioli?! Cmon! Amazing. And equally as good was kobe beef carpaccio and the poppers. Portions for appetizers were small and fancy but super delicious. Cons: expensive, but you do get what you pay for

The new Shogun is beautiful. It’s refreshing to have a nice place in Toms River that isn’t Italian. Their sushi is delicious. I haven’t met a roll I didn’t like. But the sushi was always good, that hasn’t changed. The atmosphere is just much more sophisticated now without the hibachi. I did love their hibachi, but there are soooo many hibachi places in Toms River that I really don’t miss that they took it away. The staff is also fantastic. I went there recently with my cousin who is on the paleo diet, and the staff was so helpful, sweet, and accommodating. The chef created a roll for her with all kinds of fish and rolled in cucumber instead of rice. I was just blown away with how much the waitress, manager, and chef wanted to help and actually took time to brainstorm options for her. For that, they get 5 stars.

We recently went to Shogun to see what is was like now that it is no longer Hibatchi(thank God!) We sat at the bar on our first visit and just loved the sophisticated atmosphere! The lighting and the décor is wonderful. We shared an order of Japanese Shumai and it was great! My Husband then had Sushi and I had their Jumbo Shrimp with Scallions. The sushi was wonderful and the shrimp were so huge I had to cut them in 3 to eat them! We then went back with friends for dinner and our friends had the Peking Duck and the Filet Mignon & Scallops and they loved it? I had the Jumbo Shrimp Curry and Hubby had the Jumbo Shrimp and Scallions, once again huge shrimp! We had the greatest waiter, Brian, and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Afterward we went outside to the covered deck and danced to the Oldies with the Jukebox Legends. They will be there every Thurs. night in the Summer. We plan on going often!
