Always awesome great local bakery, fresh and great if you can get goodies before they close or run out!

Love the savory cheese twists! The baked goods are made to perfection. This is an amazing local bakery. I’ve had almost everything they make– pastries, bread, and special ordered cakes. You can enjoy a nice cup of coffee, no espresso drinks but the coffee is good. There is seating outside.

The bread is epic! We started eating their sweet offerings but one day they were woefully low on sweets so I grabbed a loaf of bread. It was a strange combination(still don’t remember what it was) but it was the best bread we have had. Yesterday I picked up an onion rye to go with dinner. Needless to say that once it hit the kitchen, it disappeared. Lesson learned, get two. They always have unusual offerings that make you wonder what they will taste like and they never disappoint. Such a great spot to stop on your way to Dillon Beach(another unknown jewel, shhhh) I wish you could pre order!

This place is super! Very down-home and intimate. Everything seems to be made from scratch. Really from scratch. I love this place and will go back every chance I get.

That is a good as it gets for pastries anywhere. Really deliciously made with excellent service. Nice outdoor seating area to rest during a rest stop from your bike ride or road trip. Nice drip coffees too. Definitely stop by for a sweet or savory snack on your way through town!

Tomales Bakery is a wonderful stop in West Sonoma County. They have among the best sweet and savory pastries in Sonoma County. It’s well worth a visit if you’re in the area when they’re open: Thursday through Sunday. They have fantastic fruit pies, chocolate devils, sticky buns, little pizzas, savory gorgonzola twists, baguettes, specialty loaves, and much much more. They’re also really nice folks! We stop there often as it’s one of our favorite stops on our bicycle rambles through Sonoma County.

Good sandwich stop. Get a beer and sit al fresco and chill that DC vibe out if your system. Very good selection of any sandwich you can imagine.

Don’t wear white and bring wet hand wipes. It’s time to enjoy the Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar! You must stop here on a Highway 1. Treat your palate. Explore. Support local Tomales and baking. California dreamin’.

When do I go to Tomales? I go when the Tomales Bakery is open which is Thursday thru Sunday. Well worth your time. You will find both savory and sweet treats. I am hooked on the gorgonzola twists… or pesto asiago or the sun dried tomato twists but can be swayed by the macaroons or croissants. Everything is excellent. This is a favorite place of cyclist, locals, and travelers in the know. There is outside seating to kick back, enjoy your treat, and visit. See the menu at

Do yourself a favor and stop here. This tiny bakery serves up the best pastries and breads. The coffee is delicious, too. Cash only. There is only room for one customer at a time and there is so much to look at before you decide what to order. Save yourself the agony and order one of everything. You won’t be disappointed. Service is great and the other folks in line are friendly and patient. Sticky buns, lemon bars, cheese bread… yum. Always a nice crowd in the outside seating area. Lots of bikers and outdoor enthusiasts. If you need the restroom, ask for the key inside the bakery. Come early and often for the best selection.

Great artisan bakery. A must visit on the way to Dillon Beach or Pt. Reyes when the weather is nice. How much do I like this place?(Let’s just say I’ll make a roadtrip from SF.) Rosemary Focaccia had just the right hint or Rosemary. The ice coffee rocks — on par with Blue Bottle New Orleans and Sightglass Vanilla Cold Brew!

A real treat. A serious destination for motorcyclists and bicyclists alike, I’ve been here 4 – 5 times now and it never disappoints. Highlights: Gorgonzola cheese twists hot from the oven, and the best chocolate croissant I’ve ever had. Clean bathrooms, lots of seats, and I always meet interesting people.

Stopped in for a snack as we road tripped along the 1. So glad we chose this place! I had a goat cheese and jalapeño pizzette and it was to die for! Perfect little snack to hold me over. The staff was super friendly, too! You won’t regret stopping here.

Loved everything about this place. It’s tiny but the love and care that goes into each item is immiediately apparent. I had the calzone(spinach, roccitta, pine nuts, cheese on top) and a hot apple cidar. i also got a baguette to go which was delicious. The service was incredible and I loved that you could literally see all the goodies being made. Very quaint little town. Definitely stop by the bakery if you are in the area(I was spending the weekend in Dillon Beach and stopped here on the way back to San Francisco). Very reasonable prices and they use square for credit card payments.

My fellow bike tourists and I stopped here on our way into the Marin headlands after a recommendation from another cycle tourist the night before. We spent far too long here! But that’s a story for a different time. Every single thing I ate here was delicious. I spent nearly 20 dollars on three separate transactions coming back for more! The sticky bun was pitch perfect. The mini pizzas were impossible to choose from, each selection having impeccable topping choices, but just pick one and you won’t be disappointed. The quiche was probably the best I’ve ever had. The brewed coffee was on point, but if espresso is your style, there is a café adjacent. I spent 2 hours here just eating, drinking and chatting with the locals. This break made for an unpleasantly long evening, but it was all worth it! The wifi was spotty, but do yourself a favor and strike up a conversation!

Tomales is so small that you probably won’t even notice it when driving through. However, when bike touring you notice every little village and are always on the lookout for cute places to stop and take a break. And nothing captures the heart of a cyclist better than a bakery! I was glad to see this place after riding for hours into the headwind(big mistake — do not ride north on Highway 1) and was ready for some sweet to refuel. I showed up at 4pm so there wasn’t a lot left but I got a slice of stone fruit pie with peaches, nectarines and plums. Wow. That really hit the spot. Just the right amount of sweetness and a perfectly flakey crispy crust. I’m terribly picky about pies but there was nothing to complain about in this case.

open Thursday — Sunday(we swung by 1st time Wednesday and were closed) What amazing staff here! Very friendly, patient while we asked 1001 questions about all the breads and other treats. Everything we have had was great! Cinnamon twists, french bread, wheat red-onion bread… and a must try– the mint lemonade!!! Recommend!

This bakery is the real deal. As good as it gets: so get there early. I’ve been going here for about 20 years. Lemon bar is my favorite, but cannot pass up the twists-all the varieties are great. My Mom loved the walnut bar.

This is my favorite destination while on a bike ride as it is for many other cyclists judging by the number of bikes parked there. I used to think the sticky bun was best goodie on the menu(it is amazing)…until I discovered the rosemary focaccia! The sounds of delight as I enjoy eating this are quite audible! Only thing is that it is so popular it often sells out by the time I arrive. Thankfully one of the employees handed me a business card so I can phone ahead and reserve my favorites! While cycling up the hills on the way to this bakery. I visualize what I will soon be devouring which helps me pedal faster!
